5. Why do Community Service?
It will you the opportunity to:
• Give back to your community and do
something for others
• Make a difference to someone’s life
• Initiate, plan and show commitment to a task
• Demonstrate your sense of responsibility
• Learn more about yourself

7. What am I expected to do?
• Complete 15 hours of Community Service
(in under 7 visits)
• Non-profit making organisation
• In Brisbane
• Organised independently
• Completed in term 1, 2 and 3, or during the
Easter or September holidays
8. Who can assist you?
• You – consider what do I like, what’s near
my home/school, how will I get there?
• Parents/ guardian
• House Group Teacher
• Director of Service
• Year 10 co-ordinators
• House Service Captains
9. What am I expected to do?
BEFORE: Service Preparation
Gather ideas – check the database on Minerva
Talk to your parents, House Group Teacher, House Service Captain
Talk or visit your service provider
Complete online service agreement and submit
Wait for approval from school before you commence (2 weeks)
DURING: Service placement
Actively participate
Complete Attendance Log
Request the provider to complete the student evaluation form about your placement
AFTER: Following Service completion
Submit the completed attendance log form on Minerva
Submit the completed Student evaluation form on Minerva
Send a Thank you email or letter, take a screenshot or photo and Submit on Minerva
Complete Reflective Report and Submit on Minerva
10. MOST IMPORTANTLY
BGGS must approve your Service
Placement before you commence
Ms Papas will do this on behalf of Ms Euler
11. The program will be co-ordinated by
Mrs Mungomery and Ms Jans as part of
the Ethics programme,
with support from your Head of House
and House Group Teachers
12. Select a preferred area to volunteer
• Aged care
• Care organisations – disease, disability and disadvantaged
• Children
• Environmental Groups
• Museums, #Libraries & Research
• Music
• Sport Associations, active and inclusive community eg.
