DEMOGRAPHIC DATA
 EkitiState Population Census for year 2006 is
  made up of the followings:
  Male: 1,215,487
  Female:1,183,470
  Total: 2,398,957.
 The projected Population figure for the State
  stood at 2,748,441 in 2010 comprising of
  1,392,561 Males and 1,355,880 Females.
 Annual Population Growth Rate is 3.2% (nbs)
ECONOMY
The major occupation in the State is agriculture as
most of the resources are derived through
involvement in personal farming while there are
also a few instances of commercial agricultural
ventures.



The major agricultural products include
yam, cocoa, coffee, plantain, banana, kolanut, pal
m oil, etc.
Besides, there are other ventures such as mining
of solid minerals

   Enhancing participatory
     governance and accountability;

  Motivating the citizens with ideas for
better productivity;

  Creating intellectual bank for policy
formulation and implementation.
B. INFRASTRUCTURAL
DEVELOPMENT
   Establishing optimum communities that
     will improve citizens’ lives and attract
investments;
   By 2014, all parts of Ekiti to be
     accessible by major roads;
   Making water dams in Ekiti functional
     to increase water supply by 80 %;
     public private partnership for
     independent power projects.
AGRICULTURE
    Reviving cocoa plantations to make
Ekiti again a world leader in cocoa
production;



   Agriculture to contribute 50% on
    internally generated revenue;
  20,000 Ekiti Youths trained and
employed in mechanized agriculture by
2014.
D. EDUCATION AND HUMAN
     CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT
   By 2014, a computer on every students desk;

   free and compulsory education up to senior
    secondary school;




   special initiatives for physically challenged
    students;

   establishment of Institute of Science and
    Technology;
E. HEALTH CARE SERVICES
     Free medical services for children,
      pregnant women, the physically
      challenged and senior citizens;
   Establishment of health centres in all
localities;
   Increased immunization coverage.
F. INDUSTRIAL
DEVELOPMENT
    Jumpstarting industrial development
by creating technology and industrial
parks     for small and medium scale
enterprises;
   Establishing micro-credit facilities for
     promising entrepreneurs;
   Special focus on developing agro-allied
and solid minerals sectors.
G. TOURISM
    Making Ekiti state a most attractive
     destination for relaxation and holidays
by building a heliport.
    World class hotel and accommodation
     facilities.
     Developing
Efon, Okemesi, Ikogosi, Ipole- Iloro tourism
corridors. E.g of     Mexico(despite the
insecurity in the country, there are tourist
havens that are safe!)
H. WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
   Promoting gender equality and
      empowering women to maximize
      their potentials;
    At least one third of all
      appointments and promotions will
      be women;
    Immediate establishment of
      community fund for women
      development.

  • 2. DEVELOPMENT VISION An Ekiti where poverty becomes history MISSION To eradicate poverty from Ekiti State through accountable governance, infrastructural development, wealth creation and human centered development

DEMOGRAPHIC DATA  EkitiState Population Census for year 2006 is made up of the followings: Male: 1,215,487 Female:1,183,470 Total: 2,398,957.  The projected Population figure for the State stood at 2,748,441 in 2010 comprising of 1,392,561 Males and 1,355,880 Females.  Annual Population Growth Rate is 3.2% (nbs)

ECONOMY The major occupation in the State is agriculture as most of the resources are derived through involvement in personal farming while there are also a few instances of commercial agricultural ventures. The major agricultural products include yam, cocoa, coffee, plantain, banana, kolanut, pal m oil, etc. Besides, there are other ventures such as mining of solid minerals

  • 7. A. GOVERNANCE  Enhancing participatory governance and accountability;  Motivating the citizens with ideas for better productivity;  Creating intellectual bank for policy formulation and implementation.
  • 8. B. INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT  Establishing optimum communities that will improve citizens’ lives and attract investments;  By 2014, all parts of Ekiti to be accessible by major roads;  Making water dams in Ekiti functional to increase water supply by 80 %; public private partnership for independent power projects.
  • 9. AGRICULTURE  Reviving cocoa plantations to make Ekiti again a world leader in cocoa production;  Agriculture to contribute 50% on internally generated revenue;  20,000 Ekiti Youths trained and employed in mechanized agriculture by 2014.
  • 10. D. EDUCATION AND HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT  By 2014, a computer on every students desk;  free and compulsory education up to senior secondary school;  special initiatives for physically challenged students;  establishment of Institute of Science and Technology;
  • 11. E. HEALTH CARE SERVICES  Free medical services for children, pregnant women, the physically challenged and senior citizens;  Establishment of health centres in all localities;  Increased immunization coverage.
  • 12. F. INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT  Jumpstarting industrial development by creating technology and industrial parks for small and medium scale enterprises;  Establishing micro-credit facilities for promising entrepreneurs;  Special focus on developing agro-allied and solid minerals sectors.
  • 13. G. TOURISM  Making Ekiti state a most attractive destination for relaxation and holidays by building a heliport.  World class hotel and accommodation facilities.  Developing Efon, Okemesi, Ikogosi, Ipole- Iloro tourism corridors. E.g of Mexico(despite the insecurity in the country, there are tourist havens that are safe!)
  • 14. H. WOMEN EMPOWERMENT  Promoting gender equality and empowering women to maximize their potentials;  At least one third of all appointments and promotions will be women;  Immediate establishment of community fund for women development.
  • 15. Review of State Economy  Large public sector (main employer – over 25,000)  A history of direct public involvement in establishing and operating businesses for profit (Fountain Investment Holding, Ikun Dairy, poultry farming, rice processing, Ikogosi Warm Spring development, Romaco, Ire Burnt Brick.)

Ekiti State (Continued)  Few private firms with over 50 employees  Formal private sector concentrated in hospitality and saw mill sector  Manufacturing largely absent from formal sector  Proliferation of micro and small informal businesses linked to rural sector (e.g. carpentry, palm oil and cassava processing)

  • 20. RESOURCE BASE FOR DEVELOPMENT IN THE STATE  Arable crop cultivation - rice (120,000ha) , cassava (87,000ha), yam (81,000ha), maize (159,000ha) etc. Total – 700,000ha available.  Tree crops including 32,681mt cocoa and 8,500mt palm kernel.  10 forest reserves.

EKITI STATE  Agriculture-based investment with a diversified agro-processing capability in its infancy: e.g. oil palm, cassava, rice, cocoa, etc.  Many unexploited opportunities in value adding through processing, packaging and marketing.  Some unique tourism resources in the warm springs in Ikogosi and nearby waterfall at Ipole- Ekiti.  Opportunities still unexplored / unexploited
