We use the passive voice when we don't
know who are doing the action
3. Form of the passive verb
The passive voice is formed adding the verb
"to be" plus the participle of the verb.
Examples:

Present Simple: eat/s...........................is/are eaten
●
Past Simple:
●
Present Perfect: have/has eaten.........…........have/has been eaten
●
Past Perfect Simple: had eaten ... had been eaten
●
Future with Will: will eat ......................will be eaten
●
Going to Future: subject + am/are/is going to be + eaten
●
ate ….............…..........was/were eaten
Modal verb: subject + modal verb + be + participle....................
can be eaten, must be eaten, should be eaten

In the active voice the action of the verb is
on the subject whereas in the passive voice
the action of the verb is on the object.
The object of the active sentence passes to
be the subject of the passive sentence.

Active:The boy buys a chewing gum.
Passive: A chewing gum is bought by the boy.
Active: Calatrava built this building in 1980.
Passive: The building was built in 1980 by Calatrava.
Active: Alan had written a poem of love.
Passive: A poem of love had been written by Alan.
Active: We are going to eat a chicken.
Passive: The chicken is going to be eaten by us.
Active: I must study English.
Passive: English must be studied by me.
