This document discusses the evolution of emergency communications from traditional phone calls to next generation 112 (NG112) systems and the PEMEA consortium. It describes how early emergency systems relied on phone calls but did not support those unable to call. NG112 aims to support all types of communication over internet protocol, including voice, text, location and user data. The PEMEA consortium provides standards-based advanced emergency services like chat, video calls and file sharing that can roam internationally and interconnect with NG112 systems, providing benefits to both callers and emergency responders.
