Latin America consists of about 20 countries located in North, Central, and South America. It borders the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean and is situated just south of North America. Most Latin American countries were colonized by Spain and Portugal, and the primary language spoken is Spanish. The region experiences earthquakes and volcanic activity along the Pacific Coast and has a tropical climate with rainforests in Central and South America.
