What is PSHE?
Key words: PSHE - Personal, Social, Health + Economics Education
Personal – to do with ourselves
Social – to do with our interactions and relationships with others
Health – all about looking after our bodies, mentally and physically
Economics – all about managing our money (the E also stands for
education too)
2. What is PSHE?
PSHE covers three
different topics:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Living in the Wider World
- Relationships (RSE)
These topics are separate but very closely linked together.
We will be finding out in more detail exactly what will be
covered in these three topics in a fun group task shortly.
By the end of this lesson you will be able to describe and
link the three topics together, as well as be able to explain
why they are all so important.
3. In PSHE you will learn in a variety of different ways.
We want to develop your skills so you can be effective,
successful learners at school.
It is very important you are able to work well in groups.
Challenge: Copy and complete the mind map then choose
an extra challenge question from below:
What does
successful group
work look like?
More challenging: What is the most important area to
consider for successful group work? Why?
Mega Challenge: How can group work help to improve
your communication and teamwork skills? Why?
4. PSHE is a very special and unique subject
We will sometimes cover sensitive subjects, which may
make people feel emotional at times. Remember – this is
personal stuff – but this will prepare us massively to be
well-prepared and well-adjusted young adults too.
Discuss – what might we mean by well-prepared and well
adjusted young adults? We do we need to be?
