species of evergreen conifers of the pine
family Pinaceae (Gymnosperm), distributed
throughout the world but native primarily to
northern temperate regions.
Pinus roxburghii (Chir pine) and Pinus
wallichiana (Chilgoza pine) are the species of
pine distributed in Himachal Pradesh.
Pine trees are evergreen, coniferous resinous
trees (or, rarely, shrubs) growing 3–80 m (10–
260 ft) tall, with the majority of species
reaching 15–45 m (50–150 ft) tall
The chief economic value of pines is in the
construction and paper-products industries,
but they are also sources
of turpentine, rosin, oils, and wood tars.
