true in the case of Mr. Rashesh
Shah
• Mr. Shah always had big
dreams. He believes that there
is always a short term plan,
but there are always long term
aspirations.
• . He pursued his MBA from
IIM, Ahmedabad so that he
doesn’t have to join the family
business.

• While working in the ICICI bank, in the year 1993-94, Mr. Shah
realized that unlike in USA, investment banking had not taken off
in India and this opportunity needs to be tapped.
• In 1995, with full backing of his wife and a colleague from ICICI,
he started his investment bank. His venture, namely Edelweiss
Capital had the first mover advantage. However it took almost 3
years for the company to find its foothold.
• Edelweiss capitalized on the IT boom that happened in the late
90’s and there was a phenomenal growth for the company from
the 4th year of its inception.
• Mr. Shah diversified by acquiring a broking firm which too paid off
in due course of time
5. • . The policy of making the employees part owners of the company
through ESOP also helped in handling the economical slow downs.
• From October 2003, Edelweiss started expanding once again by
diversifying into private equity, arbitrage, investment banking,
insurance and brokerage
• Mr. Rashesh’s better half, Vidya too joined him and took care of HR,
finance and administration.
• Edelweiss Capital listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange on December
12, 2007 and had an explosive growth since then.
• He advised young entrepreneurs that it is very-very important,
especially at that point, to not give up and keep moving ahead.
