6. The New Urban Agenda – Principles
1. Leave no-one behind, by ending
poverty in all its forms and
dimensions.
2. Ensure sustainable and inclusive
urban economies by leveraging the
agglomeration benefits of well-
planned urbanisation.

sustainability by promoting clean
energy and sustainable use of land
and resources (NUA, 2016, para 14
a, b, c,).
7. Rethinking The Urban Agenda

urbanization at
all levels for
growth and
development
Strengthening
equity and
resilience in
the local
development
agenda

18. New Zealand
• At the CEDAW in July 2018 Jan Logie
stated that “the government is
absolutely committed to the 2030
Agenda and SDGs.
• Disclosure statements should mean
that all new legislation complies
with international obligations which
Aotearoa NZ has signed up to Committee on the Elimination of
Discrimination Against Women
19. How do we find out how New Zealand
is doing?
• In the UN sustainable development goals website NZ is listed a reporting to the UN in 2019
o https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/memberstates
• The NZ government will present its report to the UN in June 2019
• The SDSN conference will be in Auckland Sep 2019 hosted by UoA and AUT
• Between June and Sep would be very useful for there to be a commentary on the Government report
produced from a range of perspectives

25. Final take-aways
• Government reporting next June to UN on progress towards
the SDGs
• We have an SDSN conference next Sept in Auckland
• We have a lot of awareness raising to do; we should be able
to set our day to day work in the big picture, nationally and
internationally
• We have targets which are global but need localising – need
to be people’s targets
