The majorityof FPS games have the interchangeable weaponfeature,thishelpstomake the game
more exitingandfastpace as playerswill become more experiencedwithcertainweaponsthan
others,suchas in Call of Duty,some playerscan rack up manykillsbyrunningintothe battle witha
shotgun,whereasotherscan’tbutcan by keepingtheirdistance withasniperrifle,thismakesthe
game more diverse.
In myexperienceplayingFirstPersonShootersIhave noticedthatthe majorityof themare
Photorealistic,butthere are some cell shadedFPSgamesout
there that are also verypopular,suchas ‘TeamFortress2’ and
‘Borderlands’
‘Kill satisfaction’playsavital role infirstpersonshootersasit
keepsthe playershookedandinterestedinthe game.
I feel like almostall FPSgameshave these themesandshould
definitelylookintomakingthe game quite competitivebutalso
givingita storyline.
For my game I planto have a twiston the everydayfirstpersonshooterIplanon implementing
themesfromotherpopulargamesgenres suchadventure/sandbox gamessuchasMinecraft.
For thisI planto allowthe playertodrag/move certainitemsaroundtocreate a building/place in
whichhe can hide or shootfrom.
Lookingat up at cominggamesI can see that futuristic/fantasy
worldsseemtobe a common theme,aswell asthe usual war type
scenarios.
Thisshowsthat these themesare popularforfirstperson
shooters...
I couldlookat these themesandtryto twistthemto make the game more unique butstill as
appealingthe targetaudience.
2. Lookingat gamessuch as Fall Out,Rage and The Walking
DeadFPS,I can see thatpost-apocalypticgamesaren’tas
commonas othergenre’sforFirstPersonShooters,butthe
Post-Apocalypticgenre isverypopularwithinthe film
industry.
Looking at popular films such as I amLegend, The Book of Eli and 28 Days Later as well as popular games such
as Left 4 Dead, Dead Island and Fall Out,I can see that a common theme within the Post-Apocalyptic is
loneliness/deserted towns/cities/countryside’s,the un-dead (zombies etc.)
I plan on implementing these themes into my FirstPerson Shooter game.
