Grandmother
Emmy BegleiterBegleiter 1 English 11 Personal Essay 11/9/12 "The Loss of a Loved One" The stillness of your beloved grandmother's face was
frightening. She looked almost like a porcelain doll. You saw your beloved lying in the casket wearing her favorite suit, her hair and makeup done
up nicely. This was goodbye. Your grandmother has now reunited with her husband who died almost twenty years earlier, in the eternal happiness
called heaven. Though you know that all of the pain and suffering your grandmother endured has ended, it is still hard for you to picture what life
will be like without her. You are forced to go on with your life with your loved one only alive in your heart. In a way, it seemed like your

In the shadowbox outside of each room were relics of their husband or wife, children, grandchildren, and their passions. It filled you with sorrow.
You come to your grandmother's room and look in her cubby. Even though you want to look, you can't because the lost memories would shatter
your heart. In some ways you dread the visit; in others you look forward to it. It is hard to see your grandmother dying and always scared or upset
that her days of youth have ended. That beautiful woman with the perfect posture, the bright blue eyes, and the welcoming smile was gone. She
was in a wheelchair bent over, her hair a mess, and her eyes filled with true terror. It became hard to look at your beloved like this; yet you know
that you won't be able to be in her company for much longer. So you look forward to spending time in her living presence. Begleiter 4 As you walk
in and sign your name in the visitor's book, you begin to wonder if this is a dream. For sixteen years, your grandmother has been by your side.
Whether in Florida or Connecticut, she was there. You could always call her and share your feelings, your excitement and your fears. Now you can
hardly talk to her. The caring and talkative woman you once knew was just filled with fear. Every moment you shared with her was about her latest
nightmare or how she would

My Grandmother
My Grandmother goes by the name of babunya, and baba for short, this means grandma in Ukrainian. She lived in Ukraine for most of her life, and
she is almost 90 years old now. She's been through a lot in her years, thus her appearance has changed. For every wrinkle she has there's a story to
match. She has had every color hair: blonde, red, brown, and black. Now her hair is a short gray color. She keeps it short because it stays out of the
way, even though she hates it short. She has always had long her until now. She has also progressively become shorter over the years due to a very
bad back; she now stands just under five feet. Since she spends most of her days in the garden her usual outfit...show more content...
She usually watches the news and educates herself on what is happening in the world around her. When we go to visit her the conversations usually got
the same way everytime.
My grandma usually starts off by saying something along the lines of "how's school going for you? How are your grades? How is work going? Do you
like your teachers?" This part of the conversation doesn't last long
If there is one thing my grandma is good at, it's talking. She loves telling stories and talking about what's going on in the world today. Babunya is a
very sociable person and can hold a conversation with anyone.
My baba was born in a time when the only way you could have food on your plate for dinner was if you hunted it yourself. She would explain to me
that "living in a communist country was one of the worst things I have ever seen or been through. Not only was my country communist, we were
going through a famine. There was no way to get food because the government starved us. If I wanted to eat that day I would have to kill a bird or
whatever else was around that day." My grandma is a very strong woman. She grew up with 3 brothers and 1 sister, who were all older. She always
wanted to be like her siblings. Because her siblings were all older, my grandmother was a very fast learner. They taught her what they were during in
school so by the time she got to that grade level she already knew the information. My grandma

My Life Of My Grandmother
My Grandmother died a couple months ago. It wasn 't a sudden thing. It was a long time coming. I was standing in the kitchen with my dad when he
picked up the phone. He frowned, flicked his eyes to me, to my mother then back to me. He mumbled some confirmations then said, "That 's fine. I'll
be there shortly, thank you." He set the phone down on the table, and just briefly, I think I caught a fleeting glimpse of a smile.
I had known she was sick. My dad had mentioned it briefly, as if it was just a small thing not really worth talking about. It was just like reporting the
morning's news. But instead of, "Oh, the Reds lost again" it was, "Your grandmother is in the hospital. She isn 't doing too well." I'm not sure that he

I had expected long days of walking on eggshells, giving my father space and time to grieve. I had expected an excessive breakfast the morning
after, with stacks of pancakes, orange juice, coffee. The works. I had expected my Father to be stuffing his face, smiling, pretending everything was
all right, only to breakdown with syrup on his face and jam on his fingers. What I got was oatmeal, and a dad who looked well rested if not little
distracted.
I knew my dad and grandmother were not on speaking terms. That much was always known and not hidden from me. But I thought...I don't know.
I thought there might have been something when she died. I just expected more, I guess. When he came home from the morgue or wherever he
had to go to after the call, I was in the living room and looked over my shoulder when the front door creaked open. My mom came up and embraced
him, he put his head on her shoulders and they just stood there, barely swaying in the foyer. I got up and walked over to them. My mom drew
away, teary eyed, and my dad looked at me. "You're my proof, Cole." He said with a small quiver in his voice. "You're my proof that something good
can come from my bloodline." He smiled and hugged me, longer than he ever has before. My mother joined in and then my dad called, "Eddie! Come
down here!"
My younger brother came from his room at the top of the stairs and frowned at our group, hugging at the bottom. "Come here, kid." My dad said in his

My Grandfather– The Gift of My Life
If I could be like anybody, I would wish to become more like my late grandfather, whose memories have inspired me to strive for success, like the
smell of old, dusty books which reminds me of his admiration on learning. An avid collector, he had many books, most of which went unread. He
owned books on everything from medicine to Spain, to several sets of encyclopedias. After he faced health problems, he came less to the library
and read fewer books. They became just part of the scenery, collecting only dust and memories. I have read a few now, after he is gone, and each
time it brings back a hurt like a sore that refuses to heal. But I suppose it is a quest of sorts, because if can take on his thirst...show more content...
This house had two floors with three bedrooms on the top floor and the storage rooms, where some of the goats also stayed, on the ground floor. The
house was built in the late 1800s before my father was born, it was my grandfather's skills in organizing family members and his strategic direction, of
delegating the business operation to his several sons, according to their skills and abilities. The result is a strong group interaction that has created the
foundation of our family business, which is considered one of the most successful family businesses in Yemen. However, I believe it is his independent
endeavor that established his early success in business, as is evident by the roughness of his hands, a roughness resulting from the labor of his work
throughout his life. At the same time, my father told me he would hold my father's hands, so gently with his rough hands when having a conversation
with my father.
The saddest part of my memories of grandpa was the day my father took me along with him to visit my dying grandfather, whose eyes seemed to be
drifting aimlessly around the room while his body and face remained numb. I still recall staring at his tanned and wrinkled skin that covered his
forearms and showed his veins in painful detail, and at the way he sometimes used his heel to scratch at his other leg.
I suppose it is hard not to notice a kid who has his face turned towards you week after week, year after year. But

Story Of Grandmother
The Story of Grandmother
Religion has always been around for many years and will continue to live on. Since 2014, there are an estimated 4,200 different religions, all over
the world each believing in different things Having their own set of rules and tradition that must be followed. Storytelling became a way to give
people advice or telling people what would happen if they disobey their religious rules or tradition. In the story of a grandmother, it critiques religion
for the way it can lead to snap judgments and a loss of freedom. Religions set a snap judgment of people in the same religion or even in different
religions. Each religion slandering the others, some examples are Christianity believe the pagans worships the devil while The Romans slandering
Christians say that they are atheist and cannibals. Each religion creating conflict with the next sometimes this can lead to war, which is called the
Holy wars killing each other in the name of their gods. While it can lead to many conflicts outside of their religious group they are a bigger one
inside. If a person from the group...show more content...
They believed with every sin there is a consequence in a red riding hood, she was going to fall for the sin, but then, later on, realize and was able to
escape, If red would have never realized it her consequence would have been death, Because of this fear it also created the loss of freedom. Many
people obeying their rules not being able to see that there is much more to life than living in fear or even being able to see other beliefs or religion
that are all over the world for them to explore and decide without them being judged or being disowned from their family, friends or religious group
becoming out cast from everything you had. One religion that allows people decide to whether they want to live the life they grew up in or pick
another without being outcast or disown from their family would be the

My Grandmother Essay
My grandma or as we grandchildren call her, Paw–Paw (which in Chinese means your mother's mother) is an amazing lady and let me just tell you a
great cook too. She is a lady with a big personality and so much caring in her soul. She takes care of us when we need something or if we just want
someone to hangout with. My grandma is one great person and anyone who meets her can easily figure that out. She is my grandma, friend, and one
of my biggest role models as she had to travel across the world to come to the United States. She cares, she cooks, she hugs, and she loves.
When my grandma was a teenager, she had to embark a journey that most would fear to do. She traveled half–way across the world from China to
America on a boat the size of...show more content...
Now when I hug my grandma, it's familiar and feels like home. Her small arms around me, with her painted sparkling nails that match her
personality so well. Whenever she sees one of the grandchildren her small eyes light up and become big. She waves at us, with a big smile, in the
distance while walking fast to come give us a hug. Along with the big hug, you get a big kiss on the cheek that often leaves a pink stain behind.
When my parents would go on a trip my brother and I would get to have awesome sleepovers at my grandparents house. I would get to pick the
movie and snacks, then we would lay in her bed and just talk about everything. Then in the morning I would wake up to the best eggs ever.
Now think of the best fried rice you've ever had and multiply that by about 10, that's how good my grandma's fried rice is. My family and I make it all
the time but it is never as good as hers. Not only is the fried rice good so are all the other dishes; birthday noodles, chives and pork, and New Years
Eve dumplings. And the smell, it consumes all rooms of the house and makes you so excited for your meal. My grandparents favorite restaurants
include Lings Buffet, Mei Wei, and Cici's Pizza (yes, all buffets, which none of us complain about because they are all so good). But, the best food
is her own especially if it is cooked in the wok. So many meals have been cooked in the original wok favors, like soy sauce and meat, from past meals

Grandmother's House Essay
Grandmother's House
My grandmother's house has a very special place in my heart. As the family has gotten older and we have all had our own children we do not visit as
we should. I visited with my grandmother many times when I was little. Her house always seemed to have something about it that set it apart from all
the rest. As you walk into the back door of her house you would notice a long, narrow kitchen that led into the main living and dining room of her
house. The smell of food home cooked food was quite evident. Grandmother cooked every day and always cooked big meals on holidays for the family.
My grandmothers house was always full of laughter and many cheers. Our family used to call it our home away from home, it's like we...show more

She is a highly giving person to everyone around her and she never asks for anything in return. She always has an ear to ear smile that would
brighten up any day. Some of the many memories I carry with me every day of my grandmother are the holidays when we used to get together. I
remember Thanksgiving and Easter most of all. On Thanksgiving the entire family would come together for dinner and then we would all stay at
her house for the night. I remember this so well because we would wake up the next morning to the smell of breakfast and all the ladies would be
gone shopping to the "After Thanksgiving Sale". My grandmother has a very softhearted voice that I still hear telling me goodnight when we were
little. She would wait with us until we fell deep asleep. And even as we got older she would gather us around the kitchen table and let us watch the old
fashioned ice cream maker churn the best vanilla ice cream and then she would load it up with chocolate chips, and our parents would always say,
"That's too many.", and grandmother just let us keep piling them on. My grandmother is the kind, gentle, loving, caring grandmother that I wish my
children could experience today. As the family grew older, every one separated and as my cousins and I got older and had our own children the
holidays at grandmothers house have faded away. No one even goes to grandmothers house for Thanksgiving or Christmas, and there are no more

The Loss of a Beloved Grandmother

  • 1. Grandmother Emmy BegleiterBegleiter 1 English 11 Personal Essay 11/9/12 "The Loss of a Loved One" The stillness of your beloved grandmother's face was frightening. She looked almost like a porcelain doll. You saw your beloved lying in the casket wearing her favorite suit, her hair and makeup done up nicely. This was goodbye. Your grandmother has now reunited with her husband who died almost twenty years earlier, in the eternal happiness called heaven. Though you know that all of the pain and suffering your grandmother endured has ended, it is still hard for you to picture what life will be like without her. You are forced to go on with your life with your loved one only alive in your heart. In a way, it seemed like your ...show more content... In the shadowbox outside of each room were relics of their husband or wife, children, grandchildren, and their passions. It filled you with sorrow. You come to your grandmother's room and look in her cubby. Even though you want to look, you can't because the lost memories would shatter your heart. In some ways you dread the visit; in others you look forward to it. It is hard to see your grandmother dying and always scared or upset that her days of youth have ended. That beautiful woman with the perfect posture, the bright blue eyes, and the welcoming smile was gone. She was in a wheelchair bent over, her hair a mess, and her eyes filled with true terror. It became hard to look at your beloved like this; yet you know that you won't be able to be in her company for much longer. So you look forward to spending time in her living presence. Begleiter 4 As you walk in and sign your name in the visitor's book, you begin to wonder if this is a dream. For sixteen years, your grandmother has been by your side. Whether in Florida or Connecticut, she was there. You could always call her and share your feelings, your excitement and your fears. Now you can hardly talk to her. The caring and talkative woman you once knew was just filled with fear. Every moment you shared with her was about her latest nightmare or how she would Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Grandmother Profile Essays English Composition 1 My Grandmother My Grandmother goes by the name of babunya, and baba for short, this means grandma in Ukrainian. She lived in Ukraine for most of her life, and she is almost 90 years old now. She's been through a lot in her years, thus her appearance has changed. For every wrinkle she has there's a story to match. She has had every color hair: blonde, red, brown, and black. Now her hair is a short gray color. She keeps it short because it stays out of the way, even though she hates it short. She has always had long her until now. She has also progressively become shorter over the years due to a very bad back; she now stands just under five feet. Since she spends most of her days in the garden her usual outfit...show more content... She usually watches the news and educates herself on what is happening in the world around her. When we go to visit her the conversations usually got the same way everytime. My grandma usually starts off by saying something along the lines of "how's school going for you? How are your grades? How is work going? Do you like your teachers?" This part of the conversation doesn't last long If there is one thing my grandma is good at, it's talking. She loves telling stories and talking about what's going on in the world today. Babunya is a very sociable person and can hold a conversation with anyone. My baba was born in a time when the only way you could have food on your plate for dinner was if you hunted it yourself. She would explain to me that "living in a communist country was one of the worst things I have ever seen or been through. Not only was my country communist, we were going through a famine. There was no way to get food because the government starved us. If I wanted to eat that day I would have to kill a bird or whatever else was around that day." My grandma is a very strong woman. She grew up with 3 brothers and 1 sister, who were all older. She always wanted to be like her siblings. Because her siblings were all older, my grandmother was a very fast learner. They taught her what they were during in school so by the time she got to that grade level she already knew the information. My grandma Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. My Life Of My Grandmother My Grandmother died a couple months ago. It wasn 't a sudden thing. It was a long time coming. I was standing in the kitchen with my dad when he picked up the phone. He frowned, flicked his eyes to me, to my mother then back to me. He mumbled some confirmations then said, "That 's fine. I'll be there shortly, thank you." He set the phone down on the table, and just briefly, I think I caught a fleeting glimpse of a smile. I had known she was sick. My dad had mentioned it briefly, as if it was just a small thing not really worth talking about. It was just like reporting the morning's news. But instead of, "Oh, the Reds lost again" it was, "Your grandmother is in the hospital. She isn 't doing too well." I'm not sure that he even looked up...show more content... I had expected long days of walking on eggshells, giving my father space and time to grieve. I had expected an excessive breakfast the morning after, with stacks of pancakes, orange juice, coffee. The works. I had expected my Father to be stuffing his face, smiling, pretending everything was all right, only to breakdown with syrup on his face and jam on his fingers. What I got was oatmeal, and a dad who looked well rested if not little distracted. I knew my dad and grandmother were not on speaking terms. That much was always known and not hidden from me. But I thought...I don't know. I thought there might have been something when she died. I just expected more, I guess. When he came home from the morgue or wherever he had to go to after the call, I was in the living room and looked over my shoulder when the front door creaked open. My mom came up and embraced him, he put his head on her shoulders and they just stood there, barely swaying in the foyer. I got up and walked over to them. My mom drew away, teary eyed, and my dad looked at me. "You're my proof, Cole." He said with a small quiver in his voice. "You're my proof that something good can come from my bloodline." He smiled and hugged me, longer than he ever has before. My mother joined in and then my dad called, "Eddie! Come down here!" My younger brother came from his room at the top of the stairs and frowned at our group, hugging at the bottom. "Come here, kid." My dad said in his sandy, old Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Grandfather Essay My Grandfather– The Gift of My Life If I could be like anybody, I would wish to become more like my late grandfather, whose memories have inspired me to strive for success, like the smell of old, dusty books which reminds me of his admiration on learning. An avid collector, he had many books, most of which went unread. He owned books on everything from medicine to Spain, to several sets of encyclopedias. After he faced health problems, he came less to the library and read fewer books. They became just part of the scenery, collecting only dust and memories. I have read a few now, after he is gone, and each time it brings back a hurt like a sore that refuses to heal. But I suppose it is a quest of sorts, because if can take on his thirst...show more content... This house had two floors with three bedrooms on the top floor and the storage rooms, where some of the goats also stayed, on the ground floor. The house was built in the late 1800s before my father was born, it was my grandfather's skills in organizing family members and his strategic direction, of delegating the business operation to his several sons, according to their skills and abilities. The result is a strong group interaction that has created the foundation of our family business, which is considered one of the most successful family businesses in Yemen. However, I believe it is his independent endeavor that established his early success in business, as is evident by the roughness of his hands, a roughness resulting from the labor of his work throughout his life. At the same time, my father told me he would hold my father's hands, so gently with his rough hands when having a conversation with my father. The saddest part of my memories of grandpa was the day my father took me along with him to visit my dying grandfather, whose eyes seemed to be drifting aimlessly around the room while his body and face remained numb. I still recall staring at his tanned and wrinkled skin that covered his forearms and showed his veins in painful detail, and at the way he sometimes used his heel to scratch at his other leg. I suppose it is hard not to notice a kid who has his face turned towards you week after week, year after year. But Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Since 2014, there are an estimated 4,200 different religions, all over the world each believing in different things Having their own set of rules and tradition that must be followed. Storytelling became a way to give people advice or telling people what would happen if they disobey their religious rules or tradition. • 6. My Grandmother Essay My grandma or as we grandchildren call her, Paw–Paw (which in Chinese means your mother's mother) is an amazing lady and let me just tell you a great cook too. She is a lady with a big personality and so much caring in her soul. She takes care of us when we need something or if we just want someone to hangout with. My grandma is one great person and anyone who meets her can easily figure that out. She is my grandma, friend, and one of my biggest role models as she had to travel across the world to come to the United States. She cares, she cooks, she hugs, and she loves. When my grandma was a teenager, she had to embark a journey that most would fear to do. She traveled half–way across the world from China to America on a boat the size of...show more content... Now when I hug my grandma, it's familiar and feels like home. Her small arms around me, with her painted sparkling nails that match her personality so well. Whenever she sees one of the grandchildren her small eyes light up and become big. She waves at us, with a big smile, in the distance while walking fast to come give us a hug. Along with the big hug, you get a big kiss on the cheek that often leaves a pink stain behind. When my parents would go on a trip my brother and I would get to have awesome sleepovers at my grandparents house. I would get to pick the movie and snacks, then we would lay in her bed and just talk about everything. Then in the morning I would wake up to the best eggs ever. Now think of the best fried rice you've ever had and multiply that by about 10, that's how good my grandma's fried rice is. My family and I make it all the time but it is never as good as hers. Not only is the fried rice good so are all the other dishes; birthday noodles, chives and pork, and New Years Eve dumplings. And the smell, it consumes all rooms of the house and makes you so excited for your meal. My grandparents favorite restaurants include Lings Buffet, Mei Wei, and Cici's Pizza (yes, all buffets, which none of us complain about because they are all so good). But, the best food is her own especially if it is cooked in the wok. So many meals have been cooked in the original wok favors, like soy sauce and meat, from past meals come through and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Grandmother's House Essay Grandmother's House My grandmother's house has a very special place in my heart. As the family has gotten older and we have all had our own children we do not visit as we should. I visited with my grandmother many times when I was little. Her house always seemed to have something about it that set it apart from all the rest. As you walk into the back door of her house you would notice a long, narrow kitchen that led into the main living and dining room of her house. The smell of food home cooked food was quite evident. Grandmother cooked every day and always cooked big meals on holidays for the family. My grandmothers house was always full of laughter and many cheers. She always has an ear to ear smile that would brighten up any day. Some of the many memories I carry with me every day of my grandmother are the holidays when we used to get together. I remember Thanksgiving and Easter most of all. On Thanksgiving the entire family would come together for dinner and then we would all stay at her house for the night. I remember this so well because we would wake up the next morning to the smell of breakfast and all the ladies would be gone shopping to the "After Thanksgiving Sale". My grandmother has a very softhearted voice that I still hear telling me goodnight when we were little. She would wait with us until we fell deep asleep. And even as we got older she would gather us around the kitchen table and let us watch the old fashioned ice cream maker churn the best vanilla ice cream and then she would load it up with chocolate chips, and our parents would always say, "That's too many.", and grandmother just let us keep piling them on. My grandmother is the kind, gentle, loving, caring grandmother that I wish my children could experience today. As the family grew older, every one separated and as my cousins and I got older and had our own children the holidays at grandmothers house have faded away. No one even goes to grandmothers house for Thanksgiving or Christmas, and there are no more Easter Sunday egg Get more content on HelpWriting.net
