Essay on My Internet Experience
My Internet Experience
When I first head about the Internet, the first thing that ran through my mind was that computers are going to take over the world. I have a very
negative outlook. I thought people were never going to come out of their home, because now they are going base their whole life around the computer.
My view was that computers were evil and they disconnect humans from nature. I never cared to even see for myself what everyone was talking about.
I thought that it was too hyped and mainstream and of course I did not want to fall into the mainstream category. I assumed anybody spending that much
time infront of a computer must be a total geek without friends. This all changed when my best friend got a computer...show more content...
I imagined a whole new world, being able to communicate, send pictures and letter instantly. All of a sudden I felt as if I was in a future Sci–Fi movie,
clicking one word and having many many sites opening up to me. It was too good to be true. All those days spending in the library amongst books,
files and research materials, were all under one click of a button. I laughed at myself because it all seemed so hard because I had feared the Internet
world and now it was easy as pie.
As I continued my searching, I typed many different words. I found this site called "Yahoo", which you can practically find anything, anytime. It
gave me a list of 7 categories. The word I had chosen at the time was "Faeries", and I got so many sites that again I did not know which one to pick.
So I picked one and it was the most beautiful one of all. It had so many links and beautiful romantic pictures, along with poetry. I thought I was
never going to leave the computer now. It is my new best friend and it always agrees with me and listens to me. I now knew what I wanted for my
birthday present, a labtop. How quickly was I influenced! The more I searched the web, the more I realized it is infinite. I decided to choose the
word Chakra. I got a list of sites and I chose www.astralnet.net/energylinks.htm. I chose this site because it had the word Kundalini, which is a form of
a Chakra. I looked this word up because

Internet Pros And Cons Essay
"In today's world, the internet is a huge part of everyone's daily lives. People are extremely reliant on the internet because most jobs and schools
use it as a tool to increase efficiency and to save time. It seems that the internet is massively beneficial but it also has its cons. The internet can be
beneficial because it can be a place for people so escape and help with their mental health. Another reason the internet is good is because it is an
amazing tool that allows a person to access any information within minutes. Some cons that come with having access to the internet is that it can be
addictive and this results in a person always spending their time on the internet rather than doing other things that can benefit their health and life.
Another con that could also be consider a pro is social media and the press. Social media and the press often cause more harm than good because
their main focus is to bring in money so they will exaggerate as much as possible if it means that they will make a few more...show more content...
It seems like bullying is more common on the internet because the bully is able to hide behind their screen so they can say pretty much whatever
they want without any repercussions. I think that schools should definitely be aloud to keep tabs on a student's social media, but there should be
rules so no one is being taken advantage of. The school should only keep tabs on a student's social media if they are suspicious of bullying or if
someone brings it to their attention. Bullying is not okay so if this will be an effective way to stop it then I say that it is a good idea. I also think that it
is important that schools monitor what is being searched because without this, students could waste their time looking at pointless things or they could
also use the internet to cheat on their assignments so having restrictions will ensure that students cannot access these sights while at

Dangers of the Internet Essay
Dangers of the Internet
There are many pitfalls and perils on the Internet. Some of them are easy to avoid while other are not so obvious. Some of the Pitfalls and perils are
annoying, while others are deadly to your computer. Still others are humorous and entertaining. There are many dangers on the Internet. This paper will
try to cover some of them.
The biggest dangers of the Internet are virus. Viruses are small programs that "infect" computers. Most viruses are made to "steal" and or "destroy"
data stored on the infected computer. Viruses, that destroy data, write their code into afile and when that file is accessed it rewrites itself in to more files
until the virus corrupters or "infects" a file that the computer needs to run...show more content...
E–mailed Viruses are harder to avoid. Opening an attached file can trigger them or by touching the message that contains the attached file and then the
file menu bar of the E–mail program. (Email Hole Exposes Computers) The seconded way to start a virus is because of a hole in Netscape's mail
program and also MS's Outlook. A new way for Viruses to be spread by E
–mail is to put the whole code for the virus in the subject line that way when
the computer read the subject line it unwittingly activated the virus. The newest way for people to get viruses is through the web pages. This is
done by putting the virus code into a script on the web page, now when the page is accessed the viruses executes the viruses code. (Virus Thrives on
HTML) This can make a virus very prolific if a lot of people visit the web page.
Crackers use viruses for their destructive ways. Crackers are people who go out of their way to cause damage to other peoples systems through
the use of viruses and direct hacking. Crackers are not hackers. Calling a Cracker a hacker is like comparing a red delicious apple to a golden delicious
apple. Hackers are computer enthuses that hack, break in to, systems in order to learn about the system. Hackers as a rule do not do any damage to
the system. Crackers are the ones to give hackers bad repartitions. Crackers use virus

Essay about Internet Security
Internet Security
Security is crucial to any flourishing society such as the one in which we Americans live today. Imagine if there was no law enforcement in New
York City. No one except criminals would dare to walk down the streets. People would live in fear every day. No one would work and no one could
enjoy nature and the outdoors. We would all barricade ourselves indoors, only daring to venture outside into the dangerous world when we absolutely
needed to. Everything would be different.
Thinking of the Internet as a society, or a global community, one can also apply this notion of the importance of security. Imagine if everyone had
access to all the files on every individual's and every business's computers. It...show more content...

major security breach happened when "German hackers penetrated military, government, and commercial computer systems... looking for military
information that could be sold to the Soviet Union." As exemplified by these crimes, the Internet has security holes just as any country, including
America, does. Whether big banks or our own government, criminals will always be trying to find ways to take advantage of people, companies, and
countries... and where there's a will, there's a way.
What is satisfying to know is that these online criminals pay for their crimes just as anyone in real life pay for theirs. For example, an article at
sciencedirect.com reports that a "17–year–old computer hacker responsible for denial–of–service attacks that crippled several Web sites... has been
sentenced to eight months in a juvenile detention center" (http://www.sciencedirect.com). It is reassuring to know that special Internet police units are
out to keep the Internet safe just as they do for our streets.

The Internet is a Blessing
Ever imagined what the world was like before the internet was invented? Ever wondered how people managed before the invention of computers
by Charles Babbage? Well take a look into the world of computers: a life saver that many persons rely on daily for their needs. Yes, it is the internet.
The Internet is the largest information resource comprised of a network of hundreds of millions of computers located throughout the world (Johnson,
7). It consists of a set of computers, a set of physical (or wireless) links, and a set of rules or protocols governing the exchange of information
between them (1995). The invention of the Advanced Research Projects Agency was one of the world largest networks (ARPANET) in 1969. It was
one of the world's first operational packet switching networks, the first network to implement TCP/IP and the progenitor of what was to become the
global Internet (Kleinrock). The ARPANET served as the new era for many individuals as there was no longer a need to travel with the heavy burden
of textbooks. Also, because the Internet is accessible to anyone, it is inexpensive and can be afforded by most. Not only is it used to research
information and ideas, but it has also been proven to be a more rapid and efficient means of communication all around the world. Skillfully used, the
internet reduces the world and brings information, expertise, and knowledge on nearly every subject imaginable to one's computer. There is so much

Persuasive Essay On Internet Privacy
How many apps have you used today, or how many websites have you visited? The answer is probably very many, some even without your
knowledge. Behind the pixels of your phone or personal computer's screen, thousands of bytes of data are being transmitted. Most of that data is what
you'd expect: e–mail, texting, weather, games, and so on. Unfortunately there has been a growing problem over the last several years, and it's not one
that is obvious to the average internet user. Some of that sent data contains information which isn't necessary, oftentimes it's personal data. Your
browsing habits, favorite games, most listened to music genres are being shared to advertising agencies for profit. Privacy is quickly vanishing from the

In 2009 Google made the decision, despite profiting from ads long before, to construct advertising profiles of you and then sell them. These profiles
are used to construct more appealing ads based on your interests. Not only is this an invasion of your privacy, but it also has more harmful effects
like creating an echochamber. Facebook and Google's algorithms, which use their generated profiles, suggest search results or articles based on what
it thinks your interests are. Mallory Locklear investigates this in her Engadget article, Google has targeted ads based on hate speech, too, where she
explains that this problem can lead to racists having their beliefs affirmed rather than challenged. This is not only harmful to society, but it can also
affect you. Racism was just the example used in that article, but that kind of idea reinforcement can happen on any subject matter. Make no mistake,
however, Google and Facebook are not the only websites to do this, so the question "how can I stop this?" has but only one answer: you can't. Although
what you can do is minimize it.
Reducing the tracking is difficult, but it is possible. Google is a search engine, and an extensive one at that, but it is not the only one. DuckDuckGo at
duckduckgo.com is another search engine similar to Google. It produces many of the same search results as Google, but it does not engage in tracking.
DuckDuckGo promises, and delivers, an anonymous search engine which

The Internet and the Future of Language Essays
Throughout the history of civilization, a new medium of linguistic communication has always brought significant changes in our way of
communication as well. Such media are printing in the fifteen century, telegraph and telephone in the nineteen century, and finally television and the
internet in the twentieth century. However, the sheer scale and the significance of the Internet have in sociolinguistic and stylistic complexity of the
language is unprecedented and comparable to that of conventional audio and visual quality of linguistic aspects.
Unlike previous communication media, the internet is global, interactive and electronic. Such characteristics of the media have different influences in
linguistic development. Moreover, the internet...show more content...
Simply put, in the prescriptive point of view, there is a one superior variety of language that should be imposed upon the speech community while in the
descriptive point of view, varieties of dialects are included in the speech community. In the world of Internet literature, both descriptivists and
prescriptivists suggest imposing their points of views to Speech community. Whatever the outcome of the arguments might be, the Netspeak writers
have searched for new vocabulary constantly, creating new jargon and trying to coin the terms into the Internet lexicons. Nevertheless, a kind of
semi–prescriptivism seems to emerge suggesting that imposing certain degree of regularities and consistency is necessary to control the linguistic
developments of the Internet language (Crystal 64).
A lingua franca is a language used to make communications possible between people not sharing a mother tongue. The modern major lingua francae
are English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Arabic, among which English is the most successful lingua franca in the history of the world.
English is most widely spoken in every corner of the world as a second language or as a foreign language. It is also a language of science, education,
trade and culture.
In the age of globalisation and the internet, a large number of internet–related terms have entered English lexicon, making the Internet language the
most creative contemporary lexical domain. Many of them are

The Benefits of The Internet
Thinking about the internet reminds me of something that was said in my history class. My professor was lecturing about the early colonies in
America and how the men of that time had to sail up and down coasts in order to make maps. They had to actually draw these landscapes as they
saw them. This process would sometimes take years to accomplish. I realized that the technology our ancestors used could today be accomplished in
seconds versus years. I have access, at the touch of a button, to maps from satellites miles above the earth. I can go shopping without ever moving my
legs and communicate with friends and family all over the world, which was once nearly impossible. What an advantage I have over...show more

Roswell is a city that I really have trouble with in this area, every building looks the same and all the roads sound the same. If it weren't for the
directions that I received in Travelocity.com I would have never made it to pick up my prom dress last year. With school and work filling most of my
schedule anything that saves me time is a lifesaver. Therefore I shop on the internet as much as possible. For instance, when I was in high school, I
hated having to drive to a book store to acquire my summer reading books. I once spent a whole day searching for one book at several different
book stores all over town and the town next to mine; only to find out that almost every kid in my grade, and at every school in the surrounding
counties was buying and looking for the same books. All of us were buying out and harassing the clerks for theses books at stores such as Barnes and
Nobles, local bookstores such as Jillian's Books, and Walden Books. What a waste of time! There is so much merchandise , like my books, that can be
purchased over the internet. E–Bay is also a place where everyday people buy and sell personal items and equipment. My brother, Ben, loves E–Bay
because this is where he finds accessories to his 1972 master craft boat which he is re–building. E–Bay has introduced him to a whole new world of
shopping. With out it he would still be searching for the limited items that he has

The Internet and Its Effects
The Internet was first developed in 1957 as a communication resource for the military Defense Unit. Since then the Internet remains to a service of
communication that is now provided to all people with the access of a computer. Over the past several years the Internet has developed and expanded
into an endless resource of information and knowledge. With billions of Internet users present in the world today, the idea of living life through the

The process of education involves sharing knowledge through communication to another individual/s. The means through which education is provided
has changed tremendously in the past few years and continues change today. Through technology, education is viewed by the US Department of
Education as "no longer confined to it's campus or shaped mainly by it's own traditions, it's academic community and faculty, it's libraries and any other
source of knowledge or by any other tangible factors."(Hallak 3) Education without tangible resources is an education that is more widely available to
students. When time and distance are variables that are no longer present in obtaining information student's nation wide can receive an education. For
the first time students have more flexibility and options in making a choice as to where, when and how they receive their education.
Conversely, some may say that education has been made easy. Students and teachers are no longer are required to travel to a classroom to meet or
verbally discuss topics face to face. The communication between teachers and students has been minimized to almost nothing but reading and writing.
Although reading and writing gets the job done (as far as sending information and receiving it) there is a large gap in the communication of the
material as far as human expression is involved.
For example an aspect of human expression is sound. Sound is an

the Internet and in particular moving huge chunks of data across large distances. The Internet allows people to communicate with each other across the
world within mere fractions of seconds with the help of E–mail and Messenger. The Internet also allows for expressing opinions and obtaining

Privacy on the Internet is very important to anyone who uses the Internet and even for someone who has never been on line before. Most people do

Hackers are not the only ones who illegally take our personal information while we are on the web. Large respectable companies sometimes indulge in

This is beneficial because an instant response can be obtained in a matter of seconds. Also, this is the most appropriate place for a correct response to
any Moo related questions.
When an essay is completed in a Moo, it is out there for the world to see. In other words, anyone and everyone in the world who has access to the

work to be accomplished. Teachers can view an essay over the Internet, then email the student back his or her grade at any time they desire. Essays
written on the Internet also free the teacher from carrying around stacks of papers.
Although Moos have many advantages, there are also certain drawbacks to creating an essay in this fashion. When writing an essay in the Moo, the

to a telephone call, information services to a dictionary .The most important communication services on the Internet are electronic mail, Netnews and

Electronic mail is the most popular and widely used network service. It can be viewed as the electronic equivalent to a regular mail letter. When one
user wants to send a message to another Internet user, he types the message into a special computer program, adds the e–mail address of the recipient,
and sends the message off through the network. Typically, the message reaches its destination almost immediately, even when it is on another

in electronic form. Therefore, it can easily be handled and interpreted by a computer program. This feature is use by electronic discussion lists. They

look up and learn from on their own.
On the other hand, technology can be a detriment to students. First of all, teachers put too much emphasis on the appearance of assignments, such as
the pictures and the font type and the format, rather than paying attention to the actual quality of the assignment. Students spend more time on finding
pictures, typing up their work in special fonts, and focusing on the looks of their papers, rather than focusing on the important things, such as the thesis

important method in schools education. Many schools provide technology in their classroom to make the students feel less overwhelmed with their
assignments. The internet is a perfect example of a crucial means for the classroom. The internet is beneficial for schools because it encourages student
interactions, makes grading assignments easier on teachers, and information accessible at their disposition.

There are so many websites on the internet that teachers are taking advantage of for grading students assignments. For example, their is a website
called google classroom in which teachers assign their assignments on it and the students are able to post their work by a deadline chosen by the
teacher. The teachers are able to grade their work online wherever they might be and not have a clutter of papers to look through. There is a less
possibility that the teacher will lose an assignment which can reduce their stress on trying to keep everything organized. Google classroom makes it
efficient for the teachers to grade assignments for their students without having to worry about the time they will be spending by doing so. They are
able to see the students assignments immediately after they post it so they can start on grading earlier than having to wait till the end of the day to
gather all their papers to take home to grade. They can even grade papers while the students who haven't finished the assignment are still finishing it
up in class. Google classroom has changed the grading system completely for the teachers in a positive way. Websites that can be found on the internet
like Google Classroom can make teachers grading system seem less overwhelming than it was before.
The internet can be especially beneficial when it comes to providing attainable information for the students to use for their assignments or help them
understand the subject that they

Persuasive Essay On The Internet
The internet is a vast realm full of information that just about anyone can access. It gives us the ability to communicate with others around the world.
With millions of different websites that offer unique things to them (Youtube, Amazon, Facebook, Wikipedia, etc.). Each one of these sites offers
something the other doesn't. However, because of that instead of paying simply once a month for all these services. One is forced into paying multiple
bundles on similar types of sites. Not only that the internet as a whole will become excessively slower, unless one pay extra, and sites that already cost
someone a subscription will charge more do to the loss of site influx.
The average consumer spends about $132 a month on Internet and TV. This gives them the ability to watch whatever is on TV, and browse anything
that is on the internet. Many would say that's a fair price because one can pay more for quicker speeds and extra channels that play things normally not
on the TV. This means that everyone pays about the same price for these services. Except in the not so distant future that may change. The FCC
(Federal Communication Commission) are the ones that make up an enforce the rules of the internet. On December 14th the FCC plans on repealing
the bill that allows for open internet.
With these changes our right to a free and open internet will be stripped away and we will be be at the mercy of the big corporations that provide
internet. What this means is that these corporations

Essay On My Internet Experience

  • 1. Essay on My Internet Experience My Internet Experience When I first head about the Internet, the first thing that ran through my mind was that computers are going to take over the world. I have a very negative outlook. I assumed anybody spending that much time infront of a computer must be a total geek without friends. This all changed when my best friend got a computer...show more content... I imagined a whole new world, being able to communicate, send pictures and letter instantly. All of a sudden I felt as if I was in a future Sci–Fi movie, clicking one word and having many many sites opening up to me. It was too good to be true. All those days spending in the library amongst books, files and research materials, were all under one click of a button. I laughed at myself because it all seemed so hard because I had feared the Internet world and now it was easy as pie. As I continued my searching, I typed many different words. I found this site called "Yahoo", which you can practically find anything, anytime. It gave me a list of 7 categories. The word I had chosen at the time was "Faeries", and I got so many sites that again I did not know which one to pick. So I picked one and it was the most beautiful one of all. It had so many links and beautiful romantic pictures, along with poetry. I thought I was never going to leave the computer now. It is my new best friend and it always agrees with me and listens to me. I now knew what I wanted for my birthday present, a labtop. How quickly was I influenced! The more I searched the web, the more I realized it is infinite. I decided to choose the word Chakra. I got a list of sites and I chose www.astralnet.net/energylinks.htm. I chose this site because it had the word Kundalini, which is a form of a Chakra. I looked this word up because I was introduced to it by Dr.Roger Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Internet Pros And Cons Essay "In today's world, the internet is a huge part of everyone's daily lives. People are extremely reliant on the internet because most jobs and schools use it as a tool to increase efficiency and to save time. It seems that the internet is massively beneficial but it also has its cons. The internet can be beneficial because it can be a place for people so escape and help with their mental health. Another reason the internet is good is because it is an amazing tool that allows a person to access any information within minutes. Some cons that come with having access to the internet is that it can be addictive and this results in a person always spending their time on the internet rather than doing other things that can benefit their health and life. Another con that could also be consider a pro is social media and the press. Social media and the press often cause more harm than good because their main focus is to bring in money so they will exaggerate as much as possible if it means that they will make a few more...show more content... It seems like bullying is more common on the internet because the bully is able to hide behind their screen so they can say pretty much whatever they want without any repercussions. I think that schools should definitely be aloud to keep tabs on a student's social media, but there should be rules so no one is being taken advantage of. The school should only keep tabs on a student's social media if they are suspicious of bullying or if someone brings it to their attention. Bullying is not okay so if this will be an effective way to stop it then I say that it is a good idea. I also think that it is important that schools monitor what is being searched because without this, students could waste their time looking at pointless things or they could also use the internet to cheat on their assignments so having restrictions will ensure that students cannot access these sights while at Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Dangers of the Internet Essay Dangers of the Internet There are many pitfalls and perils on the Internet. Some of them are easy to avoid while other are not so obvious. Some of the Pitfalls and perils are annoying, while others are deadly to your computer. Still others are humorous and entertaining. There are many dangers on the Internet. This paper will try to cover some of them. The biggest dangers of the Internet are virus. Viruses are small programs that "infect" computers. Most viruses are made to "steal" and or "destroy" data stored on the infected computer. Viruses, that destroy data, write their code into afile and when that file is accessed it rewrites itself in to more files until the virus corrupters or "infects" a file that the computer needs to run...show more content... E–mailed Viruses are harder to avoid. Opening an attached file can trigger them or by touching the message that contains the attached file and then the file menu bar of the E–mail program. (Email Hole Exposes Computers) The seconded way to start a virus is because of a hole in Netscape's mail program and also MS's Outlook. A new way for Viruses to be spread by E –mail is to put the whole code for the virus in the subject line that way when the computer read the subject line it unwittingly activated the virus. The newest way for people to get viruses is through the web pages. This is done by putting the virus code into a script on the web page, now when the page is accessed the viruses executes the viruses code. (Virus Thrives on HTML) This can make a virus very prolific if a lot of people visit the web page. Crackers use viruses for their destructive ways. Crackers are people who go out of their way to cause damage to other peoples systems through the use of viruses and direct hacking. Crackers are not hackers. Calling a Cracker a hacker is like comparing a red delicious apple to a golden delicious apple. Hackers are computer enthuses that hack, break in to, systems in order to learn about the system. Hackers as a rule do not do any damage to the system. Crackers are the ones to give hackers bad repartitions. Crackers use virus Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay about Internet Security Internet Security Security is crucial to any flourishing society such as the one in which we Americans live today. Imagine if there was no law enforcement in New York City. No one except criminals would dare to walk down the streets. People would live in fear every day. No one would work and no one could enjoy nature and the outdoors. We would all barricade ourselves indoors, only daring to venture outside into the dangerous world when we absolutely needed to. Everything would be different. Thinking of the Internet as a society, or a global community, one can also apply this notion of the importance of security. Imagine if everyone had access to all the files on every individual's and every business's computers. It...show more content... Another major security breach happened when "German hackers penetrated military, government, and commercial computer systems... looking for military information that could be sold to the Soviet Union." As exemplified by these crimes, the Internet has security holes just as any country, including America, does. Whether big banks or our own government, criminals will always be trying to find ways to take advantage of people, companies, and countries... and where there's a will, there's a way. What is satisfying to know is that these online criminals pay for their crimes just as anyone in real life pay for theirs. For example, an article at sciencedirect.com reports that a "17–year–old computer hacker responsible for denial–of–service attacks that crippled several Web sites... has been sentenced to eight months in a juvenile detention center" (http://www.sciencedirect.com). It is reassuring to know that special Internet police units are out to keep the Internet safe just as they do for our streets. People love technology because we love convenience. Technology increases convenience. This is why ATM's are so popular and why electronic Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. The Internet is a Blessing Ever imagined what the world was like before the internet was invented? Ever wondered how people managed before the invention of computers by Charles Babbage? Well take a look into the world of computers: a life saver that many persons rely on daily for their needs. Yes, it is the internet. The Internet is the largest information resource comprised of a network of hundreds of millions of computers located throughout the world (Johnson, 7). It consists of a set of computers, a set of physical (or wireless) links, and a set of rules or protocols governing the exchange of information between them (1995). The invention of the Advanced Research Projects Agency was one of the world largest networks (ARPANET) in 1969. It was one of the world's first operational packet switching networks, the first network to implement TCP/IP and the progenitor of what was to become the global Internet (Kleinrock). The ARPANET served as the new era for many individuals as there was no longer a need to travel with the heavy burden of textbooks. Also, because the Internet is accessible to anyone, it is inexpensive and can be afforded by most. Not only is it used to research information and ideas, but it has also been proven to be a more rapid and efficient means of communication all around the world. Skillfully used, the internet reduces the world and brings information, expertise, and knowledge on nearly every subject imaginable to one's computer. • 6. Persuasive Essay On Internet Privacy How many apps have you used today, or how many websites have you visited? The answer is probably very many, some even without your knowledge. Behind the pixels of your phone or personal computer's screen, thousands of bytes of data are being transmitted. Most of that data is what you'd expect: e–mail, texting, weather, games, and so on. Unfortunately there has been a growing problem over the last several years, and it's not one that is obvious to the average internet user. Some of that sent data contains information which isn't necessary, oftentimes it's personal data. Your browsing habits, favorite games, most listened to music genres are being shared to advertising agencies for profit. Privacy is quickly vanishing from the internet and...show more content... In 2009 Google made the decision, despite profiting from ads long before, to construct advertising profiles of you and then sell them. These profiles are used to construct more appealing ads based on your interests. Not only is this an invasion of your privacy, but it also has more harmful effects like creating an echochamber. Facebook and Google's algorithms, which use their generated profiles, suggest search results or articles based on what it thinks your interests are. Mallory Locklear investigates this in her Engadget article, Google has targeted ads based on hate speech, too, where she explains that this problem can lead to racists having their beliefs affirmed rather than challenged. This is not only harmful to society, but it can also affect you. Racism was just the example used in that article, but that kind of idea reinforcement can happen on any subject matter. Make no mistake, however, Google and Facebook are not the only websites to do this, so the question "how can I stop this?" has but only one answer: you can't. Although what you can do is minimize it. Reducing the tracking is difficult, but it is possible. Google is a search engine, and an extensive one at that, but it is not the only one. DuckDuckGo at duckduckgo.com is another search engine similar to Google. It produces many of the same search results as Google, but it does not engage in tracking. The Internet and the Future of Language Essays Throughout the history of civilization, a new medium of linguistic communication has always brought significant changes in our way of communication as well. Such media are printing in the fifteen century, telegraph and telephone in the nineteen century, and finally television and the internet in the twentieth century. However, the sheer scale and the significance of the Internet have in sociolinguistic and stylistic complexity of the language is unprecedented and comparable to that of conventional audio and visual quality of linguistic aspects. Unlike previous communication media, the internet is global, interactive and electronic. Such characteristics of the media have different influences in linguistic development. Moreover, the internet...show more content... Simply put, in the prescriptive point of view, there is a one superior variety of language that should be imposed upon the speech community while in the descriptive point of view, varieties of dialects are included in the speech community. In the world of Internet literature, both descriptivists and prescriptivists suggest imposing their points of views to Speech community. Whatever the outcome of the arguments might be, the Netspeak writers have searched for new vocabulary constantly, creating new jargon and trying to coin the terms into the Internet lexicons. Nevertheless, a kind of semi–prescriptivism seems to emerge suggesting that imposing certain degree of regularities and consistency is necessary to control the linguistic developments of the Internet language (Crystal 64). A lingua franca is a language used to make communications possible between people not sharing a mother tongue. The modern major lingua francae are English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Arabic, among which English is the most successful lingua franca in the history of the world. English is most widely spoken in every corner of the world as a second language or as a foreign language. It is also a language of science, education, trade and culture. In the age of globalisation and the internet, a large number of internet–related terms have entered English lexicon, making the Internet language the most creative contemporary lexical domain. • 8. The Benefits of The Internet Thinking about the internet reminds me of something that was said in my history class. My professor was lecturing about the early colonies in America and how the men of that time had to sail up and down coasts in order to make maps. They had to actually draw these landscapes as they saw them. This process would sometimes take years to accomplish. I realized that the technology our ancestors used could today be accomplished in seconds versus years. I have access, at the touch of a button, to maps from satellites miles above the earth. Roswell is a city that I really have trouble with in this area, every building looks the same and all the roads sound the same. If it weren't for the directions that I received in Travelocity.com I would have never made it to pick up my prom dress last year. With school and work filling most of my schedule anything that saves me time is a lifesaver. Therefore I shop on the internet as much as possible. For instance, when I was in high school, I hated having to drive to a book store to acquire my summer reading books. I once spent a whole day searching for one book at several different book stores all over town and the town next to mine; only to find out that almost every kid in my grade, and at every school in the surrounding counties was buying and looking for the same books. All of us were buying out and harassing the clerks for theses books at stores such as Barnes and Nobles, local bookstores such as Jillian's Books, and Walden Books. What a waste of time! There is so much merchandise , like my books, that can be purchased over the internet. E–Bay is also a place where everyday people buy and sell personal items and equipment. My brother, Ben, loves E–Bay because this is where he finds accessories to his 1972 master craft boat which he is re–building. E–Bay has introduced him to a whole new world of shopping. Since then the Internet remains to a service of communication that is now provided to all people with the access of a computer. Over the past several years the Internet has developed and expanded into an endless resource of information and knowledge. With billions of Internet users present in the world today, the idea of living life through the computer is not as uncommon as it used to be. The process of education involves sharing knowledge through communication to another individual/s. The means through which education is provided has changed tremendously in the past few years and continues change today. Through technology, education is viewed by the US Department of Education as "no longer confined to it's campus or shaped mainly by it's own traditions, it's academic community and faculty, it's libraries and any other source of knowledge or by any other tangible factors."(Hallak 3) Education without tangible resources is an education that is more widely available to students. When time and distance are variables that are no longer present in obtaining information student's nation wide can receive an education. For the first time students have more flexibility and options in making a choice as to where, when and how they receive their education. Conversely, some may say that education has been made easy. Students and teachers are no longer are required to travel to a classroom to meet or verbally discuss topics face to face. The communication between teachers and students has been minimized to almost nothing but reading and writing. Although reading and writing gets the job done (as far as sending information and receiving it) there is a large gap in the communication of the material as far as human expression is involved. • 10. Persuasive Essay On The Internet It can be considered as one of the most valuable types of technology. During the last several years we have come to be more and more dependent on the Internet and in particular moving huge chunks of data across large distances. The Internet allows people to communicate with each other across the world within mere fractions of seconds with the help of E–mail and Messenger. The Internet also allows for expressing opinions and obtaining up–to–date information from the world–wide–web. The new software is being developed every day which uses the Internet as the carrier for long distance voice calls and video conferencing like FaceTime and Skype, which would hold the key to the future of our society. Whether someone is sending e–mail, posting on message boards, or reading the news online, people are guaranteed the same freedom of self–expression that we enjoy offline. In other countries, the mere act of accessing websites that criticize the government is an offense that can land you in prison. Australia, similar to the United States, perceives and ensures a person's freedom of expression. Although, they have an alternate view on what is appropriate on the Internet. Australia has taken the position to confine adults privilege of the right to speak freely on the Internet, in order to avoid children for getting material that is esteemed unsuitable for minors. Although the Internet is a wonderful place to shop, explore and interact with other people we should always keep our guard up to protect our privacy. Privacy on the Internet is very important to anyone who uses the Internet and even for someone who has never been on line before. Most people do not realize how important Internet is in everyday life. Practically all gateways between the Internet and other computer networks can handle e–mail messages. Therefore, many more people can be reached by e–mail than are connected to the Internet via TCP/IP. The major advantage of e–mail over regular mail is that an e– mail message comes in electronic form. Therefore, it can easily be handled and interpreted by a computer program.
