Chicken litter to Fuel, Feed & and Fertilizer
1.
2. Poultry Litter Char and Components
Analysis of the Chicken Litter after carbonisation had the following composition:
Formulating Poultry Feed with Carbonised Product
Poultry feed formulated with the above as additive, that has soluble forms of all nutrients,
the presence of biochar will add substantial value in the bio conversion efficiency of the
feed. The carbon content helps to adsorb toxins in the digestion process of poultry bird.
The article linked below will give a detailed insight on how Biochar can help in poultry
feed:

Proposal
We want to present our work and take it forward as below:
Supply samples of Poultry Litter Char (PLC) for detailed analysis
Supply adequate quantity for making feeds for testing
Supply PLC in volume for commercial use
Install a plant for generation of poultry litter char in client premises.
Moisture 4.49%
Carbon/Volatiles 37.66%
Ash 57.85%
Ash Analysis
Phosphate as P2O5
11.18% (6.47% of the
Biochar)
Potash as K2O 2.73% (1.58% of the Biochar)
Calcium/Silica and other
micro nutrients
86.09% (49.80% of the
Biochar)
Total 100.00%
3. Harnessing the energy released in the process of Carbonisation
Thermal energy released during carbonisation will be captured for drying of the litter.
Depending on availability of Litter. If larger volumes are available, with the excess gas
one could establish cold room for storage of eggs and poultry meat. Cold rooms
established with this technology have considerably lower Opex.
Energy/Kg of Chicken Litter 9,550 kj @ 25% moisutre
Say 2,300 Kcal/kg
Process
Updraft Gasification in 10 Stage Muliple
Hearth Technology. Patented BigChar
Australia Technology
Process Efficiency 80% (for Gasification)
Energy released for waste
heat recovery
1,940 kcal/kg
Cycle efficiency for power
production via Steam Turbin
Route
15% (after parasitic load)
Energy in Power 290 kcal (i.e. 0.338 kwh/kg)
Investment
Plant and Machinery of 250 kg/hour of Chicken Litter input plant will deliver on a 24*7
hour basis, 3 tonnes of nutrient rich Bio char.
Profitability Projection (as per ruling prices when this projection is made)
Each kg of Biochar carries 64 gm of P2O5 and 16 gm of K2O. Valued at Rs.40/kg for P2O5
and Rs.25/kg for K2O Nutrient value of these two alone will be Rs.3.00 a kg. (Rs.2.56 for
P2O5 and Rs.0.40 for K2O)
The char comes with several micro nutrients and also good load of calcium. Details to be
determined. Value for this is also high.
4. Other Possibility
Liquid Fertiizer:
Liquid fertilizer with biochar in sub-micron sizes and plantonics can be produced. This will
enable supply of organic fertilizer in liquid form for the first time in India for drip and pipe
irrigation.
Unique Properties of the product
Apart from Biochar, this product will have hydrolysed proteins and metabolites for quick
and sustainable output. Soil improvement adds to the general health of the crops. The
benefits are well documented in trials done by a large fertilizer firm in South India and by
several research studies.
CONCLUSION
Carbonisation of Poultry litter for use as nutrient addition to feed making, will be a
profitable proposal. Chicken Litter can also be converted to fuel pellets and organic
fertilizers.
