To whom it may concern:
This is a personal letter of recommendation for Diane Cranor.
I have had the pleasure of working with Diane for the past eleven years at Santa Clara University. Right from my
very first interaction, I was impressed with her professionalism and expertise. In my first year at the University,
our department needed to implement an online registration system for our events. Diane provided valuable
guidance, including recommendations and suggestions for products that I was not even aware existed! Her
assistance ensured that we purchased the most efficient and cost effective system. Over the years, I learned to
rely on her for technical advice in many facets of my operations.
Our department hosts an annual Symposium which has grown from 85 attendees in 2004 to over 450 attendees
this year. As the program grew, I needed more and more support from IT to assist with issues such as ensuring
internet access for attendees, live polling for the information sessions, and even hardware such as printers for our
invited guests. Diane worked with us during the planning phases, and ensured that we had the appropriate IT
support (hardware, personnel, etc..) on the day of the event. Thanks to her diligence, our event was always a
resounding success.
I was most impressed with Diane’s follow through on any project. If I needed support for an event, extra
equipment, information about a new product or service – I could always rely on her to provide a complete and
thorough explanation and breakdown of the choices and potential consequences. She took great care when
planning and ensured that the right players were involved in the process. I appreciated her openness and
willingness to work with the various organizations on campus. It was refreshing to find someone more interested
in the success of a project rather than the success of an individual department or person.
Another great strength is her compassion and support for the community – both internal and external to the
organization. Diane organized several programs throughout the year, including assembling back packs for needy
children before a new school year, and the Family Giving Tree at the holidays. Under her guidance and leadership,
the Santa Clara community came together to support the members of the local community who were in need.
Clearly she has empathy and compassion for the world.
