SchoolCodes for the Exchange ofData (SCED) (1991–2013)—ProjectDirector.Within several
contracts and subcontracts, over various spans of time, designed and developed a course
classification system for elementary, intermediate, and secondary education for the National Center
for EducationStatistics’ Data Forum. Reviewedcurrent course classification systems, consulted
with state and local education agency personnel; convened expert panels to review workand
provide advice; and developed, extended, and revised a system to be used voluntarily by states and
localities in the exchange of student records.
TranscriptEvaluationService(2008–2012)—SeniorResearchAssociate.Formatively evaluated
the University of California Officeof the President’s Transcript EvaluationService (TES),an analysis
tool providing details to educators and counselors regarding students’ preparedness to be admitted
to California’s 4-year colleges and universities, under a grant from the Institute of Education
Sciences. Designed and analyzed surveys and interview protocols. Created additional resources
(including videos and on-line tutorials) to help practitioners create and use TES reports and graphs.
ProgramImprovementand Data DevelopmentforConnectEd (2006–2012)—SeniorAssociate.
Served as the Senior Associate for Program Improvement and Data Development for ConnectEd:the
CaliforniaCenterfor CollegeandCareer (a non-profitorganization established in April 2006 by the
James IrvineFoundation and closely affiliated with MPRAssociates in its initial years). Curated and
selected Demonstration Sites, developed systems forcollecting and reporting common indicators
and measures of progress, recommended appropriate technical assistance to grantees, assessed
methods to advance the use of data for decision-making, and researched and reported on various
aspects of the educational endeavor within California. Co-authored A Profile of the California Part-
nershipAcademies2004–05andEvaluationofthe DemonstrationSites intheConnectEdNetwork.
Conducted an assessment of the Health Science program of study as supported by ConnectEd’s
integrated curriculum units. Evaluated (viasite visits; interviews; classroom observations;
curriculum material reviews; and collectionand analysis of student test scores, attendance, and
graduation rates) the implementation of Linked Learning and evidence of success among 16 schools

in the ConnectEd Networkof Schools; co-developed and conducted a series of webinars to discuss
preliminary results with schoolsite staff, connecting evaluation to practice and policy.

ate. Categorized and analyzed course-taking of high school students in three states, serving the
development of a web-based tool linking secondary and postsecondary data, in order to improve
the college readiness and success of high schoolstudents nationwide.
SLDS TechnicalAssistance(2009)—SeniorResearchAssociate.Assisted state agency personnel in
California and Texas, suggesting waysto further develop, extend, and present facets of their state
longitudinal databases; conductedinterviews with other state agency and within-state system
administrators to explore possibilities and best practices.
PartialrevisionoftheSecondary SchoolTaxonomy (SST) (2005–2006)—TaskDirector.Revised
the career and technical education portion of the SST to more closely match current practice and
other classification systems forNCES. Coordinated and reviewed the adviceof the NCES Technical
Review Panel on VocationalEducation and other experts, revised the SST, and developed cross-
walks to other classification systems.
MPR’s Center forCurriculumand ProfessionalDevelopment (1998–2006)—AssociateDirector.
Directed training and facilitation throughout the United States to foster understanding of curricular
integration and effectiveuse of data. Provided assistance to the Director to develop and coordinate
research effortsand service initiatives. Drawing upon MPR’s publications (AtYour Fingertips:Using
EverydayDatato ImproveSchools and Gettingto Work:A Guidefor Better Schools) and other
research, conductedprofessional development workshopsfor state, district, and localeducators.
SouthernRegionalEducationBoard (SREB) (1991–2003)—ProjectDirector.Coordinated and
oversaw MPR’s multi-year program of workwith SREB and over 1000 secondary educational sites
participating in HighSchoolsThatWork (prior to 2000, in conjunction withthe National Center for
Research in Vocational Education [NCRVE]).Conducted overalland site-specific studies, analyzing
students’ high school course-taking patterns and behaviors, assessment performances, postsecond-
ary activities, teachers’ attitudes and behaviors, and school changes. Planned overall project tasks,
allocated resources and staff expertise, and developed technical assistance activities.
