Training and
Mentoring
4. This is where I have the opportunity to train and
educate employees on different types of tooling
that they are using such as carbide inserts which
may include what radius they are using what size
and shape and if there is insert wear and what that
wear may be. Such as flank wear, cratering,
thermal failure, notching, edge deformation,
chipping, or mechanical failure.
Also training employees on a corrective action for
these types of conditions
This can also include drilling, tapping, boring
situations, turning and milling
This also includes me going out to the machines
with the employees to guide them and walk them
thru the situation to solve the problem
I also train employees how to use hand tools,
gages correctly, and help them to figure out how to
solve a problem
Projects
I have programmed and setup, ran the bogie
assembly on the first Cat Challenger 85, the
second Gen. Ag Tractor which is another bogie
system. On the Gen. Ag Tractor I had the
opportunity to run and program a Cinnicanti
Milicron T-40 with a conturing B axis. With this we
made a 42” rear drive wheel. It was nice with the
engineer from Cat on a Sunday working with me on
what surface finish he would like to see. This was a
great experience
In 1986 we bought a Mazak H25-N and tooled up
several aluminum aftercooler Cat housings, some
of which were 4 foot and some were 7 foot. These
are used on Cat 3600 engines. There was a seal
pocket that we used with 5 different tools to cut that
pocket. I contacted
Kennametal in 1989 who was being used on most
of the operation. We developed an insert and
cutter to cut that seal pocket in all of the aftercooler
housings. Now running in the Mori Seiki 1000 to
date
These are just a couple of many projects I have
worked on
5. Education
Fairbury Cropsey High School
1976 –1980
