in a technique known as Mohs micrographic
surgery, considered one of the most effective

3. What is Mohs surgery?
 Dr. Weingold: Mohs micrographic surgery is
considered to be one of the most advanced
and effective treatments for skin cancer. The
procedure enables physicians to confirm at the
time of surgery that all cancerous tissues have
been removed.

4. What does the process entail?
 Dr. Weingold: With Mohs surgery, layers of
cancerous skin tissue are peeled away and
examined, leaving only cancer-free tissue.
Physicians are able to leave much of the
cancer-free tissue intact after removing the
cancerous tissue. Mohs surgery has a success
rate of up to 99 percent for treating skin
cancer.
