1. Chico Newsletter
From General Manager Lance Atencio-Hard to believe, but the first quarter of the
year is already gone. We have some good things to talk about this month, as well as a couple of
not so good things. So let’s get the bad news out of the way first. As most of you know, Chico
had gone 11 whole months without an injury. In March that streak came to an end as the
division had two injuries. We had told everyone that if we went a whole year, we would have
quite the celebration. So as we start on our new streak, I will say that if we can go a whole quarter
with no accidents or injuries, we will celebrate that accomplishment with some good food.
The other not so great news is that we continue to have to use one gate for the exit and the entrance
to the yard. What was supposed to take one to two weeks is now going on its seventh week and beyond.
Hopefully, this will wrap up soon and we will be back to business as usual.
On the positive side, the maintenance and safety departments have had a stellar month. First, we
passed the CHP inspection with flying colors. Our vehicles were in great shape and so were the
maintenance and safety files. Then Ed Remly, Regional Maintenance Manager came to Chico for two
days for our annual audit. The audit went so well that we scored 441 out of 450 points and have been
designated as a “Maintenance Center of Excellence”. This means that we are among the top performing
divisions in the company. This is a testament to the entire division as we all play a part in keeping our
vehicles running, from the operator who notices there is a problem, to the dispatcher who swaps and/
or holds vehicles, to the techs themselves.
But the greatest chunk of the credit has to go to our Maintenance Manager, David Field. David has
dramatically improved communication between his department and operations, as well as with his
employees. In the 15 months I have been here I have seen huge improvement in both the look of the
fleet and the number of vehicles that are down.
So congratulations to David and the entire maintenance department!

From Human Resources
Manager Tannis
Walburn-Hello All,
We have some new faces at
Transdev, Chico. Please wel-
come Joe Knight, Mike Sulli-
van and Naomi Stouder to our Team. They
will be going through New-Driver Training
during the next few weeks so please make
them feel at home.
By now you should’ve received the new
recruiting cards in your mailboxes. The
next time someone asks, “How can I drive
a bus for the B-Line,” you can hand them
the card directly. The card will give the
applicant instructions to apply online. Be-
fore handing the card to the perspective
applicant, write your name on the card to
ensure you receive the $200 referral bo-
nus. If you need additional cards, please
see me.
From Operations Supervisors Bill Smith
& Alexis Jefferds- For this month I wanted
to focus the newsletter on radio communications
as it is an essential part of running a successful
operation. Whether you are fixed route, para-
transit, or a dispatcher you play a vital role in
the communication process. The radio should be
used for communicating issues as they relate to
the conditions of the road. If you have a specif-
ic question that will require more than a simple
“yes or no”, you need to switch to the secondary
radio channels that we have; ie CATS and Chico
Clipper. All accidents, passenger falls, or other
serious incidents need to be called in on the
secondary channels and NOT on the primary
channel!
Before you call on the radio, think
about what you want to say and then speak
clearly. Keep it short and simple on the primary
channel.
2. From Maintenance Manager David Field-
CONGRATULATIONS TEAM CHICO,
You have worked hard, you have continued to relentlessly pursue perfection, and today you have risen to the occasion and
received the fruits of your labor by receiving a FLAWLESS 100% ZERO FINDINGS CHP AUDIT. An amazing accomplishment that
each and every one of you should be proud of.
Over the last 3 weeks you have adapted and overcome some major adversities that impacted our day to day operation. The
total revamping of the bus yard and the shop with major traffic flow restrictions to accommodate the construction project. An acci-
dent that disrupted our work flow for 3 days. And the loss of one of our teammates due to a serious injury here at the facility.
It was an awesome experience during the CHP Audit to step back and just watch as a spectator you as a TEAM flawlessly
execute the game plan that you prepared for, practiced for and on game day performed like the CHAMPIONS you are.
Each and every one of you in the Chico Division had an impact on the outcome of this CHP audit, but I would like to recog-
nize some key TEAM MATES that had a significant impact:
Martin Ocegueda our lead “A” Mechanic for commitment and outstanding leadership of the preparation and execution of
our game plan for the CHP Audit.
Our entire Maintenance staff, Mike Johnson, Donald Craven, Debbie Broker, Rodney Davis, Shawn Hudson, Ed Row-
land, Armando Ferrer, Thae Thao, Hue Thao, Kang Thao, ChiaChong Thao, Harold Pringer, & Robert Thao for your prepara-
tion, continued hard work and commitment to excellence.
Our Parts Clerk Uhai Cha for his support of obtaining all of our team needs and his commitment to the administrative ex-
cellence. Our paperwork was exceptional without any findings.
Our Utility lead Timothy Thao for his managing of our DVIR program, which was impressive to the CHP inspector.
Our Dispatch Team with Chris King & Terry Shuey scheduling the buses to be here when we needed them for preparation
and the Audit. With James Horton, Kong Yang, & Christine Katrell executing the schedule and making changes when needed for the
preparation and the audit.
Our Team of Supervisors Johnny Caskey, Bradley Wright, Angie Stevens & Jimmy Sanchez for their support of moving
vehicles around between yards just in time when we needed them for the preparation of the CHP audit.
And of course our GM Lance Atencio for his 100% support of the maintenance department and the direction we have com-
mitted to of achieving excellence.
“IT’S YOUR SHIP”! Continue to work hard and pursue excellence.
From Safety Manager Steve Bernal- April is here and Spring is in the air. The Safety message for April is –
Following Distance. Remember a minimum of 4 seconds following distance is needed to give us enough time to make
the proper driving decisions, more time is needed when things are less than perfect. Remember the LLLC when driv-
ing.
April is “No Clip Month”, Start earning your Safety Tokens for a chance to win a 32 inch Flat Screen TV. We are off
to a great start – not to many clips this month. Keep up the good work.
Remember - SAFETY, SERVICE, SCHEDULE – in that order. Don’t rush – don’t cut corners.
Thank you from the SAFETY dept.
