Smith Street 6 Lane Upgrade, Gold Coast

Led the tender to lowest bid. The project consisted of upgrade from 4 to 6 lanes of the busy Smith st
motorway, upgrade from 4 lanes to 6 lanes of Olsen Avenue through the intersection, widening of
bridge and drainage culvert structures, upgrade of intersections to improve traffic flow resulting from
the Commonwealth Games Village and adding new diamond interchange on and off ramps. Housed in
the Consultant Engineer GHD Design offices, I managed and coordinated the entire design and the
overlay of all facets of design to meet the Main Roads Specifications – traffic, road geometry,
pavements, bridge structure, drainage, landscaping and staging of the construction works. Developed
the Construction Program including key strategies and concepts as well as leading presentations to the
Client at milestone points and meetings within the Tender period through to Tender submission.

Controls, Earthworks, Pavement Construction, Drainage and Finishing works associated with the Civil
Construction package for the New Parallel Runway for Brisbane Airport. The project comprised
landside works requiring the clearing and mulching of 70 Hectares of Casuarina and Mangrove trees,
the construction of a 6km new Perimeter road, and 5km of major open drainage infrastructure requiring
350,000m3 of Acid Sulphate Soils Treatment and included breaking into the Kedron Brook Floodway
Drain and Serpentine Creek outlet to Moreton Bay. Airside works included 5km of new inground
electrical and water services, airside security fencing, deep drainage culverts under the cross runway
plus runway pavement constructions in a live airfield environment. This Project won Australian
Engineering Excellence Awards for Environmental Excellence and was a finalist in the Civil
Contractors Federation Earth Awards.

Finishing works associated with the conversion of an existing open cut coal mine into a new
underground facility. The role includes working on a fly in-fly out roster within a BMA Coal Mine (2
klm long, 80m deep and 120m wide), coordinating with all facets of earthworks, major plant fleets and
roadworks. It involves directly controlling the new structural conveyor constructions, underground
portal entrances and drainage infrastructure to allow follow on fitout and installation of all mining
operations and equipment. The position requires direct control of a team of engineers, site supervisors,
commercial, safety and quality personnel in a dangerous mining environment. It also includes
responsibility for compliance to strict Mining working rules and practices and daily liaison with Client
(BHP/Mitsubishi Alliance) and Client appointed governing Representatives (Bechtel).

bridge, 1.2km 4 lane elevated Viaduct and on/off ramp structures, 1km motorway duplication and
significant intersection upgrading and remodelling in a sensitive marine and Maori cultural
environment.

Responsible for the Tendering and Letting of all Contracts, Procurement of all major items (including
Super T and T-Roff precast beams, 750T of steel plate and oversized steel truss pipe, feature precast,
cladding and balustrading…), all aspects of Strategic Planning and development of Contract and
Construction programmes. This was then followed by supervision of offsite fabrications, coordination
of Design Consultants, planning and coordination of onsite major installations and administering all
subcontracts and claims.
8. The project comprised the Design and Construction of a 600m long, 6-9m wide pedestrian footbridge
for the Commonwealth games from Birrarung Marr to the MCG. Crossing major infrastructure
including Batman Avenue, Yarra Trams network, 16 live trainlines and Brunton Ave and including a
feature tram ‘superstop’ behind the Tennis Centre. Construction included T-Roff, Super T, Steel Box
Girder and a launched Steel Pipe Truss bridge sections and features included architectural precast and
aluminium cladding, lift, stairways, balustrading, illuminated handrailing and public art.

Responsible for all aspects of site control, planning and management from initial site setup including
contract and construction program development, strategic access, craneage, site accommodation and
materials handling controls. Led a team of foremen and site engineers overseeing all subcontract site
works, safety and industrial measures whilst directly controlling critical path civil, structural and
cladding subcontractors including offsite fabrications and Design Consultants. Also doubled as the
public and hospital user groups liaison.
The project involved the Design and Construction and Fitout of a new 6 storey hospital facility
comprising of 3 storey underground carpark, radiotherapy treatment ward, operating theatres,
sterilization and general ward facilities.

One of three Site Managers, I was responsible for the site control, planning and management of critical
path civil, structural and cladding trades including craneage and materials handling controls. Also
responsible for the development, monitoring and reporting on the overall construction program and
administration of structure subcontractor subcontracts and claims. Worked alongside the Project
Manager maximizing Client reporting, claims, variations and hospital user group issues.
The project involved the Design and Construction of two new hospital wings including a 4 storey fully
fitted out hospital ward and a 7 storey wing that included 4 storeys of professional medical suites and fit
out of a 3 storey radiology ward with radiotherapy bunkers. The wards share a 3 storey underground
carpark. All works were carried out surrounded by existing hospital facilities and included extensive
integration and interface works.

The project involved the Design and Construction of a 4 storey office complex, 2 storey underground
carpark and warehouse facility in Tally Ho Technology Industrial Park, East Burwood to be the MYOB
national head office complex. Construction included all base building structure, cladding, services and
extensive civil works. High quality office fitout and energy efficient mechanical, lighting and solar
power systems installed.

The project involved the refurbishment of the Darling Harbour Shopping centre in a major tourist area,
requiring major structural demolition and reconstruction with high quality finishes whilst maintaining
