2. • Masthead – the title of the magazine.
• Main image. (occasionally we see additional images on the cover)
• Buzz words – Words used to entice the audience, such
as, free, special, exclusive and only.
• Banner – Used to give information on the magazine.
• Anchorage text – Text which overlaps the main image to show the
magazines featured article.
• A colour scheme and layout which reflects the genre of the movie. For
example, with a horror movie being featured, there will be less on the
page resulting in more focus on the main image. However, with an
action movie you would expect the layout of the magazine to be hectic
to represent the explosive nature of the featured film.
• Barcode, Issue number and release date.
3. For my analysis of Film magazine front covers I have
chosen to analyse one front cover from Empire and one
front cover from Total Film. It is unusual for a horror
movie to obtain the front cover for a film magazine.
This is why I have chosen to analyse these two covers
as I feel they are close to how a horror front cover
would be.

6. As I am now aware of the conventions I must
follow, when I produce my film magazine front cover I
must make sure to include them or to challenge the use
of them. I can also look to the real media texts that I
have analysed and gain inspiration and ideas from
them.
