In his free time, Darwin Horan enjoys watching the
Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball
Association (NBA).
Although Denver missed the playoffs in 2016-2017,
the team won seven more games than it did the year
prior, thanks in large part to a career-year from small
forward Danilo Gallinari. A former sixth overall pick of
the New York Knicks in the 2008 NBA Draft, Gallinari
was dealt to Denver as part of a three-team trade in
February 2011, and he has been a core player for the
team ever since.
3. Danilo Gallinari
The Italian posted a career-high 19.5 points per game
during the 2015-2016 season, and while that average
dropped to 18.2 in 2016-2017, his shooting
percentage was the best it had been since his rookie
season in 2008-2009, when he played almost 20
minutes fewer per game.
This past season, Gallinari's 3-point field goal
percentage was .388, as opposed to .364 and .355 in
the previous two seasons. He also recorded a career-
high 2-point field goal percentage of .492. Meanwhile,
his efficiency field goal rating, which takes into
account that a 3-point shot is worth more than one
from 2-point range, was above .500 for the first time
during his six seasons in Denver. He also finished
fourth in the league in free-throw percentage.
