JOB SUMMARY:
The Executive Director will lead the agency while ensuring that the agency and its services are
consistent with the mission of the organization. The Executive Director shall ensure that the
agency is in compliance with regulatory and fiscal issues.
Exempt position based on 40 hours weekly with a general schedule of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm,
Monday through Friday with flexibility built in for related responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides leadership and direction in all aspects of administering the agency ensuring that
effective services are in place, and that the agency stays in both fiscal and regulatory
compliance, that appropriate staff are in place and that the agency is fulfilling its mission.
2. Develops and maintains strategic business plans and implementation strategies which
routinely monitors and strives to improve services, including quality assurance, corporate
compliance, satisfaction surveys and internal audits.
3. Supervises and maintains a strong senior leadership management team that understands
the agency mission, works towards clearly defined objectives and is qualified and
empowered to lead their designated programs. Provides on-going support and assistance
to Directors to enhance or expand programs as required.
4. Serves as an advocate for Connections and as such acts as a representative of the
program to federal, state and local officials, as well as community organizations.
5. Actively promotes and involves the agency in community, statewide, and national service
delivery networks.
6. Establishes rapport and maintains relationships with people served and their network of
family, friends and other supports.
7. Ensures that the agency follows and keeps with its mission in the delivery of services and
development of future services.
8. Works closely with the Board of Directors and its committees.
9. Ensures that budgets are developed and administered that meet the needs of the persons
served while keeping with funding requirements.
10. Acts as a liaison with local, state and federal offices on regulatory issues and systems
change ideas that can better support people with disabilities.
11. Ensures that policies and procedures are developed and updated as needed to meet
regulatory requirements while keeping with agency mission.
12. Works with people served, families and advocates on issues of concern.
13. Serves as principal public relations officer of the agency on all public relations and legal
issues unless another staff or Board member has been appointed or delegated.

2. 14. Represents the agency at community, state and national levels through attendance and
participation in conferences, seminars, think tanks and meetings.
15. Works to ensure that there is effective team work throughout the agency.
16. Works to develop retreats and training events that bring staff and Board together in
common focus on agency goals.
17. Assumes other related responsibilities as is needed by the agency.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive Director supervises a staff that includes the entire agency. Supervisory
responsibilities include making hiring recommendations; making final hiring decisions;
instructing and training in work methods; planning, scheduling and assigning work; checking
and approving work; conducting performance evaluations; recommending salary adjustments;
making effective recommendations regarding promotions, making final decisions on
promotions; determining disciplinary actions regarding unsatisfactory employees; and making
final decision to terminate unsatisfactory employees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
• Bachelors degree in human services field or in business management with substantial
direct administrative experience serving individuals with disabilities; or
• Other variation of education and experience as approved by the Board of Directors
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Supervisory and administrative experience
• Direct experience with persons with developmental disabilities
• Experience with budgets
• Experience with boards and committees
• Experience in developing and implementing effective communication principles, media, and
public relations techniques.
• Strong interpersonal and community relations skills and the ability to communicate and
work effectively with diverse groups including internal staff/volunteers, external agencies,
community businesses, community services, funding and regulatory agencies.
• Strong advocacy skills and tact are extremely important
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must have demonstrated ability to convey a positive and professional image both within
and outside of the agency and ability to work in a highly tactful and confidential manner

This position requires the regular use of a computer, and other typical office equipment as
needed.

3. MENTAL AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS
High mental and visual attention required for planning difficult work including preparing and
analyzing data and figures, using a computer terminal, reading, making presentations, etc.

by an individual in performing the essential functions of this position.
• While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand,
walk, use hands to finger, grasp, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions.
• The physical requirements of this position call for the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force
occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push,
pull or otherwise move objects.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that may be
encountered while performing the essential functions of this position.
There is no exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Work is performed in a typical
office work environment with occasional outside travel as necessary.
