1. Celebrations:
St John’s Eve
Saint John’s eve is the evening of June, 23th, the day before the Feast Day of Saint John the Baptist, and
coincides closely with the June solstice. The Christian holy day was fixed at June 24th; but, usually, the
countries celebrate it the previous night, on Saint John’s Eve.
Curiously, this festive commemorate the birth’s anniversary of the saint honored, not the death one, how is
usually.
The main element related to this festivity, usually, is fire, with many bonfires that people makes to jump over.
In England, St John the Baptist’s day is a quarter day (four days in the year on with school terms started,
servants were hired, and the rents were due. These days are nearby to the two solstices and the two equinoxes.
Progressively, these days had lost importance.) and they celebrate it putting into the bonfires a Guy Fawkes’
dummy.
In Spain, the people, first of doing bonfires, they launch fireworks, eats typical food and many cities and
villages have their own traditions.
In some other countries, the people swims, does some events, and, generally, they do activities near the water,
but, nearly always, they do bonfires.
