Hyde Park is bounded by Elizabeth, Liverpool
and College Streets and Prince Albert Road in
central Sydney1792
Governor Phillip
reserved the area for

making it Australia’s
oldest park

common”, gathering
firewood and grazing
animals until
Governor Macquarie

A new water supply

Known only as a terraced flower
garden in the ’80s, the park has
blossomed into a full-fledged 40-
hectare recreational park, which now
includes a massive lake, fountains and
three outdoor gyms.
