2. MAIN OBJECTIVE OF DAIRY HERD
HEALTH PROGRAM
• The main objective is to improve productivity by
optimizing milk yield and quality under the
particular prevailing environmental and
management conditions. This objective is
achieved by:
• Promoting reproductive efficiency in the dairy
herd
• Reducing the effects of important diseases
• Providing optimum feeding
• Promoting reproductive efficiency
3. Reproductive Performance Targets
• These vary depending on the climatic
conditions and the breed.
• The table contains targets estimated for
Australia and New Zealand with similar
environmental conditions with Sub-Saharan
Africa.
• Unfortunately, performance targets are not
yet fully available for Zambia.
