Digital marketing, also called online marketing, is the
promotion of brands to connect with potential customers
using the internet and other forms of digital
communication. This includes not only email, social
media, and web-based advertising, but also text and
multimedia messages as a marketing channel. Essentially,
if a marketing campaign involves digital communication,
it's digital marketing.
1. Measurability
Every campaign can be measured. In digital marketing, the reach and responses of
all advertisements can be collected numerically. This data helps companies to
come up with better marketing strategies in the future.
2. Personalization
Digital marketing allows you to easily understand your customers, track their
purchasing habits, and learn about their interests, likes, and dislikes. This allows
you to offer (or tailor) products and services to their specific needs.
3. Two-way communication
Unlike traditional marketing practices, digital marketing provides a platform for
two-way communication. Every message you send helps you start a conversation
with your audience, which helps you build a stronger rapport with them.
4. Targeted ads
It lets you target specific demographics. You can target people based on their age,
gender, profession, geography, interests, etc. For example, if you are running a
sustainable women’s clothing boutique, you can target women who are searching
for sustainable women’s clothing.
Digital marketing can be broadly broken into 8 main
categories including: Search Engine Optimization,
Pay-per-Click, Social Media Marketing, Content
Marketing, Email Marketing, Mobile Marketing,
Marketing Analytics and Affiliate Marketing .
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is the process of getting traffic from the
free, organic, editorial, or natural search results on the search engines. Simply put, it’s the
name given to the activity that attempts to improve search engine rankings. In many
respects, it's simply quality control for websites.
SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video
search, and news search engines. Employing a sound SEO strategy will help you position
your website properly to be found at the most critical points in the buying process or
when people need your site.
Search engine marketing, or SEM, is one of the most effective ways to grow your
business in an increasingly competitive marketplace. With millions of
businesses out there all vying for the same eyeballs, it’s never been more
important to advertise online, and search engine marketing is the most
effective way to promote your products and grow your business.

web content, typically for digital marketing purposes. It can

podcasts, as well as content for specific platforms, such as tweet
storms on Twitter or text posts on Reedit.
Digital marketing metrics are the key performance indicators
(KPIs ) used to measure the success of a business's marketing
efforts online. The goal of using digital marketing metrics is to
track and decipher the way consumers interact with your brand
online through websites and social media platforms.
