1. SUMMARY:-
This project report presents the background of the project(INTERNET AND
VITIANS).A structured questionnaire was prepared for data collection.
It was found that majority spend their time on internet mainly usong social
networking sites,online shopping,video conferencing etc
The findings showed that internet has emerged as the leading information pool
for students.
Respondents were dissatisfied with amount of data usage allotted to them
(3GB)
This wasthe primary study conducted by our group and it results as surprising
as they were informative.
INTRODUCTION:-
Internet is one of the most powerful and important inventions in the late 20th
century,it can be very useful and productive tool , whereas on the other hand
it can be a source of distraction to millions and lead to wastage of their
precious time. Internet and vitians have a close relationship.it is also designed
to provide entertainment,networking and is a fast-track way to help scholars
with their research . college students as a community have a greater access to
high speed internet connections than anyother peer group. Therefore the use
and misuse of internet is a crucial issue in the academic life of student.
PURPOSE:-
The main purpose of our study was to investigate the myriad purposes for
which studentsof vit university,vellore used internet specifically focused on
what the use it for ,how frequently they use it ,how satisfied they were with
the internet services provided by vit and the merits and demerits it had
ANALYSIS OF THE DATA:-
1)HOURS SPENT ON THE INTERNET USAGE:-
Our study showed that majority of students (61%)spend about 2-4 hours
online,only 4% used it for more than 8 hours

2. 2) VARIETY OF TASKS INTERNET IS USED FOR :-
Our study showed that social networking(57%)is most popular closely followed
by online shopping eg:jabong, myntra,flipkart(25%),videoconferencing eg
skype(17.5%) Online banking(16%)
3) MEDIUM OF STUDY :-
54.5%students preferred hard copies over e books or slides as far as the study
material provided by the faculty as concerned.
4)ALLOTMENT OF DATA”-
A majority population thought that 3GB data restriction was unfair however
34% were not sure about it .A surprising 26% disagreed on this issue
5)MISUSE OF INTERNET:-
43% said that internet was not misused more that it was used .while 34.4%
could not decide.
6)INTERNET AND MODERN SOCIETY:-
Majority of people 78.2% partially agreed to the statement that inernnet has
brought distant people close and close people distant
CONCLUSION:-
A majority of respomdents agreed that they make only limited use of internet
but as far as medium of study was concerned they prefer the old ideas of
school textbooks.
Cyber bullying,fake accounts,fraudulent websites was cited as the most
irritating factor regarding internet.
While students agreed to be using ineternet in a large for their projects
.Faculty members argued that they must learn to verify the information .
The physical hazards of wifi and condtantinternet were also researched by our
group.wrong postures,headaches and intenet addiction are ine of the main
ailments VITians are afflicted with. Hence indispensable part of students life

3. we have to learn to use it in moderation and stop accepting whatecer data it
provides at face values.
