My family needed a new way to look at family priorities. This presentation is about pitching in and the benefits of doing so. It also gives three options for chores, so we can collectively, as a family, decide which system will stick.
2. WHAT IS PITCHING IN?
It’s cleaning up after yourself, doing your chores, helping others as needed,
offering assistance to those who could use your time or special talents
3. PITCHING-IN
• Why pitch-in?
It:
• fosters a sense of family togetherness, teamwork, and accomplishment
• keeps family members safe from tripping hazards or food poisoning, etc.
• keeps you dressed in clean clothes
• gives you a sense of where items are when you need them
• keeps mom and dad from lecturing you on the value of pitching in
• brings an appreciation for the work that each of us do daily
• prepares you for the future
Fosters self-discipline, self-reliance and internalizes organizational skills
4. HOW DO I PITCH IN?
• Offer assistance when you see someone is needing it
• Complete your chores/responsibilities
• Perform an act of kindness
• As you walk through the house, or wherever you are, pick things up and put
them away if they don’t belong in the place they currently lie
5. HOW DO I BENEFIT?
• When you pitch-in, you are:
• Learning great habits which will remain for the rest of your life
• Fostering a sense of teamwork and respect within our family
• Understanding where your things are
• Much more likely to have clean clothes
• Able to use media
• Much more likely to travel, go to parties, receive money for field trips, tickets to
plays, gas money when you start driving
• Speaking one of mom’s love languages : )
• Spending less time looking for items you need
6. PITCHING IN
• Making pitching-in more friendly:
• You can make pitching-in easier by picking up after yourself and doing chores. I
can help the pitching-in process by offering three different systems. At the end
of this presentation, we will vote on which system is best for our family (majority
rules, and mom breaks a tie). The three systems are shown on the next slide
7. 3 OPTIONS TO CHOOSE FROM
• All options include picking up after yourself, keeping your room clean, and
doing your own laundry.
• Option 1: Chores are assigned weekly (current system)
• Option 2: Each person is responsible for their own “Zone” of the house for a
time period to be determined. For example, you might be responsible for
keeping the upstairs bathroom clean for the week; or keeping the downstairs
bathroom clean, along with the den. All zones will have an equal amount of
work as possible.
• Option 3: Randomly choose 5 chores out of a jar.
9. WHAT IF I DECIDE TO/NOT TO
PITCH IN?
If you decide to participate, you will get media time, travel when appropriate,
paid field-trips, some spending money (as needed), etc.
For every time you decide not to pitch-in, ALL of your media will be locked up
for the remainder of the day, and the next day; and you will suffer the natural
consequences (not having clean clothes for school, etc.). If you continue to
decide not to participate in our pitch-in program, your media will be taken
away, you will be restricted from attending birthday parties, field trips,
purchasing of any video games, travelling, and you may even be subject to
monetary penalties.
