To wrap up the New Life Center Summer
Art and Music Camp, the resident
children, under the instruction of Artist-
In-Residence Keith Johnson, presented
an art show and musical performance
entitled "All Around Our World We
Learn... We Live". The theme was based
on the sounds and environment of the
Tropical Rain Forest. The art exhibit
included rain forest sticks and bead
embellished gourd shakers. The musical
presentation consisted of a lively, upbeat
tropical performance on the steel drums.
The music of the drums and instrumental
tunes that mimicked the sound of birds,
crickets, frogs, rain sticks, monkeys,
seed pods, and cocoons swept the entire
environment into the mist of the tropics.
As pictured above to the right, the
children are playing the drums,
displaying their art projects and showing
off their certificates of camp completion.

Youth volunteers having fun on the job
The Kiwanis Club of Litchfield
sponsors the Action Club, a group of
young adults that are always eager
and ready to help out at New Life
Center. The group helped our children
residents do art and craft projects.
They plant and maintain the vegetable
garden on campus, help with the meals
and even volunteer their time at Hope's
Closet. We are very grateful to have
the support of such a fun, loving, and
dedicated group of youth volunteers.
I hear the sound of frogs, crickets and birds in
the CDC room.......

In the kitchen... healthy dining
The dining room is always open. NLC staff (pictured
above, Rosemary and Crispina) prepare and serve
the meals three times a day. The meals are prepared
according-to a menu based on the CACFP, a federal
meal plan similar to the plan that is followed by the
public school lunch program. The menu changes
every five weeks. Coffee is served with breakfast,
sippy cups and baby bottles are served anytime.
In addition to the scheduled meal plan, a group of
volunteers from our RSVP volunteer program come
to campus Monday thru Thursday to bring special
goodies like ice cream and other fun foodie treats that
are delicious and nutritious. The volunteers also help
the women residents with large families serve their
children. The children are very excited when

Member (pictured above) who will
occasionally arrive in costume,
carrying goodies ready to serve
meals. Vegetable donations from
the community and from the NLC
vegetable garden are a big support
and compliment to the meal plan.
When the women exit the program at
NLC they are given a food box from
the kitchen that contains can goods,
coffee, tea, cereal, and other food
necessities to help them get settled
into their new home.
