1. A Descriptive Study
Making a relationship last is not an easy task. It takes communication, trust, understanding, love, and the list goes on. In an article, Psychologist figured
out one trait that makes relationship last, by Drake Baer, the trait that holds a relationship together is to deal with conflict well. In a study, people were
surveyed online on how the frequency of conflict influenced how they felt about their health of their relationship. In another study, couples were
interviewed on conflicts in their relations and had to rate their satisfaction with each other. In conclusion of the study, people who felt understood by
their significant other, were happier together. The article I read is an example of a descriptive studyā€“ survey...show more content...
According to psychology today, empathy is the experience of understanding another person's situation from their view. In Tylenol's main ingredient
acetaminophen might lessen sense of empathy: study, an article by Steve Pak, he talks how acetaminophen affects empathy in people. A study by
National Institutes of Health (NIH), on two groups helped come up with this conclusion. One group received a liquid with acetaminophen equal to two
extra strength Tylenol tablets. The other group received a solution without pain killer drugs. The two groups both had two read short stories about
people and pain they suffered, they then had to rate the pain of the people based on their stories. The group that received acetaminophen rated the pain
of others to be less serious than the group who did not receive that drug. Another test was done with a loud sound; the group that received
acetaminophen rated the sound as less pleasant for themselves and others, compared to the other group. The article summarized is a clear example of
an experimental study. An experimental study is contains an experimental group. An experimental group is a group designed to answer research
questions, by having an experimental and control group (openstax). In this article the experimental group was the group who received acetaminophen.
The control group received a solution without pain killer

It's been a long while since I last visited that place, I don't know what kept me from going but I just could never bring myself to do so. It was like a
moaning howl in the back of my troubled mind and I have had enough of it. I was going to be brave, like I promised her I'd be. And this time I meant it.
The place I was heading for wasn't pretty but it wasn't ugly either, it was a place full of sad and longing memories. I felt the same way about it as I
do with snow, maybe because it reminded me of her, same glittering white like her hair and ice blue frozen rivers that match the colour of her eyes or
maybe it's because she always liked the snow or just maybe it was snowing when she disappeared. It was at that thought that I figured out why I was
so hesitant to go, it was sadness and loneliness...
I was at the local train station waiting for the next train to appear, I wasn't going to have to wait long as the train appeared after about 10 minutes.
The ride was going to be long, that was to be expect since the place I was going to was a cemetery that was in the countryside, I moved and lived in the
city for two years and this is the first time I decided to go back to my hometown. As I looked outside, I could see numerous trees and meadows that
waved to me as the wind blew as if greeting and welcoming me back. I soon grew bored from the welcoming wind and decided to reminisce about my
late wife and first love.
We both first met in our second year of high school, we were both 17 and had the same interest in literature, and we would often eat lunch and read
our favourite books to each other at lunch time and during holidays. Soon we graduated and were off to university, I studied creative writing and
English and became an author while she studied teaching and became a history teacher. We both got married at the age of 25, had children at 27
and lived together for 62 years until she passed away at the age of 89. I had to go to her grave and apologise for not visiting for so long.
The train finally stopped to a screeching halt when it arrived at the train station, I got off the train and called for a taxi to take me to the cemetery
where my wife is waiting for me. When I got there, the first thing I did was to go

Descriptive Essay About Music
I grab the white headphones and put the EarPods into my ears. Then, I go through a variety of songs until my thumb lingers over the song "You
Know Me" by a band named Thunder Dreamer. Quickly, I click play and the world around me stops as the music enters my ears. The soft guitar
strums put an end to my over thinking and suppresses my feelings of sadness. By the time the vocals appear in the song, I can only think about music
and how happy I am in this moment. By this I mean that hearing music is the equivalent of being at peace. To be more specific, music puts me in every
place I've ever felt happiness, tastes as sweet as it sounds and relaxes my overwhelming thoughts.
With this said, I am on top of the world when I have the headphones in my ears. I feel as though I can do anything when I am blasting a song by
Cage the Elephant on my speaker. Whether I am listening through my headphones or on a speaker, the volume is always the highest it can be. This
way, the music penetrates through the walls and through every layer of skin on my body. I know this high level of noise is not good for me, but
the music is. Uniquely, music places me back into every dream I've ever forgotten. I am suddenly placed into the dream where I'm a kid and I am
laughing as my friends try to catch me in a game of tag. In a matter of three beats, I am a child again and I can only thank music for this. Moreover,
when I hear Frank Sinatra's voice playing from my "Classics" playlist, I am put back into the

Rhythm. The sunlight lightly tapped a beat on my arms, warming me. The crate below me was hot to the touch. I felt the soft sand as I brushed my
toes through it. The beach was full of crates. Heaps of them lay in the sun, tanning and conversing in their wooden ways. A few people populated the
beach. A cluster of young men was behind me. I listened to their conversation. I had an odd habit of doing thatā€“ eavesdropping. I got up, whispering
goodbye to the sand as I slipped on my shoes and jacket. I trudged back to the town. Tall, black fences surrounded it. The place was mostly isolated.
The closest town was quite a walk, around a kilometer away. Guards were posted at the fence, but they mostly just played games and texted on
their phones. The security was quite good in my town. The guard noticed me as I walked up to him. "Your ID?" he asked, glancing up from his
device. Everyone in the town had a specific ID. You had to be of the town to get in. It was possible to invite guests from other towns by being with
them when they came to the gates, but the town in general was not very happy to take visitors. "Welcome to Watsberg, again." The guard opened the
gates and I slowly walked to my destination. The sinisterā€“looking houses glared at me. I pulled my jacket tighter. Not a single human being was
outside. That didn't take into consideration all the other animals living in the town. Rats scampered around the deserted streets and dogs loped. Nobody
went outside at one o'clock.

Great waves toss and turn with great force. Rushing as they collide with the earth soaking the soft sand. The ocean seemed to be howling as every
wave grew as tall as a mountain. Slowly, the water creeps forward, then lazily seeping back in the vast ocean, only to do the same over and over
again. The deep sea is a mysterious place where sea creatures lurk beneath the waves. Blue, sparkling water is everywhere you look with no end.
The humming waves seem to whisper as if telling me the most confidential secret. You can never really hear them clearly until you dive in deeper
and deeper. I breathe in the warm air as I gaze out at my beautiful home. So wide I'm not even certain I've seen all it's beauty that lies beneath. I can
see the shadows of tiny fish swimming above the soft sand. They are so small they look as though they are microscopic. I reach down and run my
hands through the wet substance that is so thick that my muscles grow tired the deeper my hand goes. As I lift my hand up, the sand makes a cloud
of powder, slowly drifting through the water. The waters are so calm as though nothing could anger them. Each wave slowly rocking back and forth
to the rhythm of the sea. I lower my fins beneath the water and a coolness rushes through me as I feel the cold, wet water. The soft breeze brushes
against my skin with the scent of an indescribable satisfaction. Hours passed as the warmth of the sun seemed to just soak into my skin and relax my
mind. As the day goes on, it

Descriptive Essay On Dystopia
Dystopian Setting
The city that once had homed thousands and been the most economically successful country ever, was now a contaminated wasteland. The land
looked dry, destroyed and lonely. The morning breeze felt like crying sorrows, and the grey deceitful sky awed down at us. In the deepest corner of
despair lies dystopia where hope dies. As someone looks through the eyes of the devil, they see his utopia. Only visible by the dim light of the moon
was the great wall. Beyond the wall? No one knew. Stretching away from the wall was a humongous bridge that towered the wall. Standing tall on the
bridge was a tower, which had two circles that almost looked like eyes. Those mysterious, creepy and dangerous looking eyes stared down at the city
giving away a haunting look.
The reek of death hangs in the air throughout the land. Filling the mouths of those who lived in this abandoned land was the taste of burnt garlic. The
screams and cries of terror undistinguishable between beast and human fill the ears of the last ones living. The sky, which was lit by the glow of fires, is
grey and empty. Decaying bodies and...show more content...
As I walked, the air of this haunted, dreadful and sorrowful land had sucked the life out of everything and roared as humanity began to disappear.
As I carried on walking, I noticed that the small fraction of light was getting smaller and smaller, until it had been engulfed into a think black ash
like smoke. Aggressively, the wind walked past the building with its cruddy feeling, blowing away all signs of life. Deeper and deeper into the
land was a burning car door. The fire roared and crackled. The roaring and crackling of the burning car door merged with the aggressive air and
created the loudest sounds ever heard on land. Growing darker, the skies made me feel nauseous. The fear of not waking up if a human fell asleep

I sat on the gentle slope of the hill overlooking the calm winding river. On either side of the river sits a brown canvas painted with the vivid colors of
fall. Bright reds, oranges, and yellows speckled the mostly barren trees. On the ground, the once brightly shaded leaves appeared a dreary light brown.
The fallen leaves shuffled with the light breeze, creating a relaxing sound like waves rolling on the beach. The air was crisp and smelled of leaves, but
the rays of the sun crashed down on me, keeping me warm. With not a cloud in the sky, its wondrous shade ofblue was completely visible. Like
frosting on a cake, the sky seemed coated with one uniform light blue icing. The bright, fall afternoon sun cast small shadows around the trees,
looking like massive pencils laid on the ground. As the river bubbled along, it wound its way around my hill with a gradual bend. On the far side of
the river, several overhanging branches formed a quaint enclosing. The skeleton canopy arching over the river lacked all of its leaves. Thin, wiry
shoots sprawled out from the main branches of the trees. Underneath the branches the river continued along. The cool water lapped up against the bank
of the brook peacefully. Smooth stones eroded by time marked their place in the shallow stream, poking out over the current and creating miniscule
ripples in the uniform flow. Shortly upriver, a twoā€“foot tall waterfall caused water to crash down upon itself. The water turned

The southern california city of Los angeles is a big place, easy to get lost in. The weather is hot, humid, and sticky. The sun was almost hugging you
wherever you walked. The sidewalks were very steep and hard to walk up on;you get used to it when walking home frequently. People fanning their
faces wherever they walked. Even though the weather was hot as a desert it didn't stop people from coming to LA. Kids would be in their front yards
playing with the water hose or "manguera" the spanish term we used for water hose. After all it was the cheapest thing to do to get through the heat
and it was at your own house;no long drives. The worst thing that could happen to anyone during the heat was your ac either not working or broken;just

How to Write a Descriptive Essay
More than many other types of essays, descriptive essays strive to create a deeply involved and vivid experience for the reader. Great descriptive
essays achieve this affect not through facts and statistics but by using detailed observations and descriptions.
What do you want to describe?
As you get started on your descriptive essay, it's important for you to identify exactly what you want to describe. Often, a descriptive essay will focus
on portraying one of the following: a person a place a memory an experience an object
Ultimately, whatever you can perceive or experience can be the focus of your descriptive writing.

Descriptive Essay Trip
One of the greatest ways to learn about the world around us is to take a trip to visit new places. This past summer, I flew from my home in Florida to
take a road trip with my aunt from Roanoke, Virginia. We went to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was an amazing experience to be able to visit the place
where my family originated.
Our trip started in Roanoke where my aunt and I made our way to Canada driving through the night. Unfortunately, since it was dark, I was unable to
see anything. I did, however, get to have time to talk with my aunt and get to know her a little better. After a long eleven hour drive, we finally made
it to our Canadian destination. After resting a few hours at another aunt's house in Milton, I was ready to become tourist for a few days. My first stop
was Niagara Falls just north of the Canadian border.
Niagara Falls is the largest waterfall by volume in North America; and is one of the largest tourist attractions. Even though it was extremely
crowded making viewing difficult; the experience was worth the inconvenience. I was able to walk around and see some of the area surrounding the
falls. The town of Niagara has great places to shop, as well as, wonderful restaurants. I enjoyed spending time with both of my aunts and one uncle.
On the way back to my aunt's house we stopped off at my favorite restaurant, Swiss Chalet. This franchise is only in Canada, which makes it a must
stop place for my family and I to eat. In my opinion, their chicken and

Descriptive Adjectives
Analysis of Descriptive Adjectives in Two Stories
In any story, the reader needs some way of imagining what the author is writing about. When writing, authors use descriptive words to illustrate what
they are trying to convey to the reader and to enhance their story. In the stories "The Treasure of Lemon Brown" byWalter Dean Myersand "The House
of the Scorpion" by Nancy Farmer, both authors use descriptive words to develop the mood of the setting and the characters. In "The Treasure of
Lemon Brown," Myers uses descriptive words to describe the setting, characters, and also the mood. He used such words in a scene from the story
where the main character, Greg, is walking down an empty street and is looking for shelter from a thunderstorm. The phrase, "Graffitiā€“scarred
building...grim shadows." is used to describe the buildings around him. These words are used to set up the depressed or ominous mood of the
setting, by using words such as "scarred" and "grim." Those particular words cause it to seem as though the graffiti is old and permanent, as if the
neighborhood has been this way for a while, and will remain that way: gloomy and depressed. Furthermore, Myers uses these descriptive words to
describe Lemon Brown when he writes, "His black, heavily wrinkled face was surrounded by a halo of crinkly white hair and whiskers that seemed
to separate his head from the layers of dirty coats piled on his small frame." From this the reader can tell that this is an aged man, who is

Finally, finally, the sirens stop. It's so sudden, flooding the air with a moment of silence. My ears start to pick up the city noise again, faint and

Prologue I looked out onto what was left of the landscape before me one last time. I used to call this place home but it no longer resembles the one
I used to know. "It's funny how things can go from bad to worse in such a short amount of time" I thought to myself. What once used to be a
beautiful blue sky full of puffy clouds shaped like anything that could be imagined was now grey and lifeless. The clouds are no longer white and
puffy but dark and menacing. They are racing towards us with the impending storm. The buildings we are leaving behind are still tall and immaculate
compared to the brown wasteland around them. There was no longer green in sight except for the vehicles and billboards.
From where my mother and I wait, I can see a large bird ā€“ a vulture I think ā€“ eating what looks like the body of a dead bald eagle. It breaks my heart to
see my home like this. Iowa was once an area covered in vast prairies as far as the eye could see. Thunder crashes from overhead and I'm once again
brought back to my reality. My mother and I are called forward, it's our turn. The president of the United States is sending us underground, and daddy
isn't coming. Mommy said it's because he's sick and they don't want him infecting others. Not to worry though, he won't be alone. There are others
staying behind.
"It's time to go down now Andrew, wave goodbye to daddy" She whispers in my ear. I begin to frantically wave and yell over the anxious murmurs of

Descriptive Writing Definition
Writing is the illustration of language in an exceedingly matter medium through the utilization of a collection of signs or symbols. It's distinguished
from illustration, like cave drawing and painting, and non symbolic preservation of language via non textual media, like as magnetic tape audio. Writing
has been with us for many thousand years, and these days is more important than ever. Having spread steadily over the centuries from clay tablets to PC
chips, it's poised for additional dramatic advances. Though hundreds of millions of people are still unable to read and write, humanity depends on
writing to an unprecedented extent. It's quite possible that, today, more communication takes place within the written than in the oral mode.
The purposes of writing are narrated (narrative writing), narration is story telling. In some ways it's the best kind of writing as a result of it comes so
naturally to most people. Practically everybody enjoys telling and hearing stories. Narratives sometimes progress chronologically, and should have a

Work Out Descriptive Writing
Droplets of sweat poured down my face while the beating sun blocks my view of the 8 lane track. The brush of skin touched me and my arm hair
stood up. The bleachers were swarms of silence. My spikes towed the white line. I closed my eyes and the gun went off.
Running. Rain poured down blurring my vision and soaked my entire body. I had ten 400s left in the workout. I could give up or keep going. I knew my
mind was strong enough to push. My legs clenched and nearly gave out and my arm stiffened up. Workouts like these eventually made me feel
powerful and unstoppable. This sport gives me a whole different perspective in life. I would block everything around me and move my legs without a
single thought.

Descriptive Study Psychology

  • 1. Descriptive Study Psychology 1. A Descriptive Study Making a relationship last is not an easy task. It takes communication, trust, understanding, love, and the list goes on. In an article, Psychologist figured out one trait that makes relationship last, by Drake Baer, the trait that holds a relationship together is to deal with conflict well. In a study, people were surveyed online on how the frequency of conflict influenced how they felt about their health of their relationship. In another study, couples were interviewed on conflicts in their relations and had to rate their satisfaction with each other. In conclusion of the study, people who felt understood by their significant other, were happier together. The article I read is an example of a descriptive studyā€“ survey...show more content... According to psychology today, empathy is the experience of understanding another person's situation from their view. In Tylenol's main ingredient acetaminophen might lessen sense of empathy: study, an article by Steve Pak, he talks how acetaminophen affects empathy in people. A study by National Institutes of Health (NIH), on two groups helped come up with this conclusion. One group received a liquid with acetaminophen equal to two extra strength Tylenol tablets. The other group received a solution without pain killer drugs. The two groups both had two read short stories about people and pain they suffered, they then had to rate the pain of the people based on their stories. The group that received acetaminophen rated the pain of others to be less serious than the group who did not receive that drug. Another test was done with a loud sound; the group that received acetaminophen rated the sound as less pleasant for themselves and others, compared to the other group. The article summarized is a clear example of an experimental study. An experimental study is contains an experimental group. An experimental group is a group designed to answer research questions, by having an experimental and control group (openstax). In this article the experimental group was the group who received acetaminophen. The control group received a solution without pain killer Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Descriptive Essay It's been a long while since I last visited that place, I don't know what kept me from going but I just could never bring myself to do so. It was like a moaning howl in the back of my troubled mind and I have had enough of it. I was going to be brave, like I promised her I'd be. And this time I meant it. The place I was heading for wasn't pretty but it wasn't ugly either, it was a place full of sad and longing memories. I felt the same way about it as I do with snow, maybe because it reminded me of her, same glittering white like her hair and ice blue frozen rivers that match the colour of her eyes or maybe it's because she always liked the snow or just maybe it was snowing when she disappeared. It was at that thought that I figured out why I was so hesitant to go, it was sadness and loneliness... I was at the local train station waiting for the next train to appear, I wasn't going to have to wait long as the train appeared after about 10 minutes. The ride was going to be long, that was to be expect since the place I was going to was a cemetery that was in the countryside, I moved and lived in the city for two years and this is the first time I decided to go back to my hometown. As I looked outside, I could see numerous trees and meadows that waved to me as the wind blew as if greeting and welcoming me back. I soon grew bored from the welcoming wind and decided to reminisce about my late wife and first love. We both first met in our second year of high school, we were both 17 and had the same interest in literature, and we would often eat lunch and read our favourite books to each other at lunch time and during holidays. Soon we graduated and were off to university, I studied creative writing and English and became an author while she studied teaching and became a history teacher. We both got married at the age of 25, had children at 27 and lived together for 62 years until she passed away at the age of 89. I had to go to her grave and apologise for not visiting for so long. The train finally stopped to a screeching halt when it arrived at the train station, I got off the train and called for a taxi to take me to the cemetery where my wife is waiting for me. When I got there, the first thing I did was to go Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Descriptive Essay About Music I grab the white headphones and put the EarPods into my ears. Then, I go through a variety of songs until my thumb lingers over the song "You Know Me" by a band named Thunder Dreamer. Quickly, I click play and the world around me stops as the music enters my ears. The soft guitar strums put an end to my over thinking and suppresses my feelings of sadness. By the time the vocals appear in the song, I can only think about music and how happy I am in this moment. By this I mean that hearing music is the equivalent of being at peace. To be more specific, music puts me in every place I've ever felt happiness, tastes as sweet as it sounds and relaxes my overwhelming thoughts. With this said, I am on top of the world when I have the headphones in my ears. I feel as though I can do anything when I am blasting a song by Cage the Elephant on my speaker. Whether I am listening through my headphones or on a speaker, the volume is always the highest it can be. This way, the music penetrates through the walls and through every layer of skin on my body. I know this high level of noise is not good for me, but the music is. Uniquely, music places me back into every dream I've ever forgotten. I am suddenly placed into the dream where I'm a kid and I am laughing as my friends try to catch me in a game of tag. In a matter of three beats, I am a child again and I can only thank music for this. Moreover, when I hear Frank Sinatra's voice playing from my "Classics" playlist, I am put back into the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Descriptive Essay Rhythm. The sunlight lightly tapped a beat on my arms, warming me. The crate below me was hot to the touch. I felt the soft sand as I brushed my toes through it. The beach was full of crates. Heaps of them lay in the sun, tanning and conversing in their wooden ways. A few people populated the beach. A cluster of young men was behind me. I listened to their conversation. I had an odd habit of doing thatā€“ eavesdropping. I got up, whispering goodbye to the sand as I slipped on my shoes and jacket. I trudged back to the town. Tall, black fences surrounded it. The place was mostly isolated. The closest town was quite a walk, around a kilometer away. Guards were posted at the fence, but they mostly just played games and texted on their phones. The security was quite good in my town. The guard noticed me as I walked up to him. "Your ID?" he asked, glancing up from his device. Everyone in the town had a specific ID. You had to be of the town to get in. It was possible to invite guests from other towns by being with them when they came to the gates, but the town in general was not very happy to take visitors. "Welcome to Watsberg, again." The guard opened the gates and I slowly walked to my destination. The sinisterā€“looking houses glared at me. I pulled my jacket tighter. Not a single human being was outside. That didn't take into consideration all the other animals living in the town. Rats scampered around the deserted streets and dogs loped. Nobody went outside at one o'clock. • 5. Great waves toss and turn with great force. Rushing as they collide with the earth soaking the soft sand. The ocean seemed to be howling as every wave grew as tall as a mountain. Slowly, the water creeps forward, then lazily seeping back in the vast ocean, only to do the same over and over again. The deep sea is a mysterious place where sea creatures lurk beneath the waves. Blue, sparkling water is everywhere you look with no end. The humming waves seem to whisper as if telling me the most confidential secret. You can never really hear them clearly until you dive in deeper and deeper. I breathe in the warm air as I gaze out at my beautiful home. So wide I'm not even certain I've seen all it's beauty that lies beneath. I can see the shadows of tiny fish swimming above the soft sand. They are so small they look as though they are microscopic. I reach down and run my hands through the wet substance that is so thick that my muscles grow tired the deeper my hand goes. As I lift my hand up, the sand makes a cloud of powder, slowly drifting through the water. The waters are so calm as though nothing could anger them. Each wave slowly rocking back and forth to the rhythm of the sea. I lower my fins beneath the water and a coolness rushes through me as I feel the cold, wet water. The soft breeze brushes against my skin with the scent of an indescribable satisfaction. Hours passed as the warmth of the sun seemed to just soak into my skin and relax my mind. As the day goes on, it Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Descriptive Essay On Dystopia Dystopian Setting The city that once had homed thousands and been the most economically successful country ever, was now a contaminated wasteland. The land looked dry, destroyed and lonely. The morning breeze felt like crying sorrows, and the grey deceitful sky awed down at us. In the deepest corner of despair lies dystopia where hope dies. As someone looks through the eyes of the devil, they see his utopia. Only visible by the dim light of the moon was the great wall. Beyond the wall? No one knew. Stretching away from the wall was a humongous bridge that towered the wall. Standing tall on the bridge was a tower, which had two circles that almost looked like eyes. Those mysterious, creepy and dangerous looking eyes stared down at the city giving away a haunting look. The reek of death hangs in the air throughout the land. Filling the mouths of those who lived in this abandoned land was the taste of burnt garlic. The screams and cries of terror undistinguishable between beast and human fill the ears of the last ones living. The sky, which was lit by the glow of fires, is grey and empty. Decaying bodies and...show more content... As I walked, the air of this haunted, dreadful and sorrowful land had sucked the life out of everything and roared as humanity began to disappear. As I carried on walking, I noticed that the small fraction of light was getting smaller and smaller, until it had been engulfed into a think black ash like smoke. Aggressively, the wind walked past the building with its cruddy feeling, blowing away all signs of life. Deeper and deeper into the land was a burning car door. The fire roared and crackled. The roaring and crackling of the burning car door merged with the aggressive air and created the loudest sounds ever heard on land. Growing darker, the skies made me feel nauseous. The fear of not waking up if a human fell asleep towered Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Descriptive Essay I sat on the gentle slope of the hill overlooking the calm winding river. On either side of the river sits a brown canvas painted with the vivid colors of fall. Bright reds, oranges, and yellows speckled the mostly barren trees. On the ground, the once brightly shaded leaves appeared a dreary light brown. The fallen leaves shuffled with the light breeze, creating a relaxing sound like waves rolling on the beach. The air was crisp and smelled of leaves, but the rays of the sun crashed down on me, keeping me warm. With not a cloud in the sky, its wondrous shade ofblue was completely visible. Like frosting on a cake, the sky seemed coated with one uniform light blue icing. The bright, fall afternoon sun cast small shadows around the trees, looking like massive pencils laid on the ground. As the river bubbled along, it wound its way around my hill with a gradual bend. On the far side of the river, several overhanging branches formed a quaint enclosing. The skeleton canopy arching over the river lacked all of its leaves. Thin, wiry shoots sprawled out from the main branches of the trees. Underneath the branches the river continued along. The cool water lapped up against the bank of the brook peacefully. Smooth stones eroded by time marked their place in the shallow stream, poking out over the current and creating miniscule ripples in the uniform flow. Shortly upriver, a twoā€“foot tall waterfall caused water to crash down upon itself. The water turned Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 10. Descriptive Essay Trip One of the greatest ways to learn about the world around us is to take a trip to visit new places. This past summer, I flew from my home in Florida to take a road trip with my aunt from Roanoke, Virginia. We went to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was an amazing experience to be able to visit the place where my family originated. Our trip started in Roanoke where my aunt and I made our way to Canada driving through the night. Unfortunately, since it was dark, I was unable to see anything. I did, however, get to have time to talk with my aunt and get to know her a little better. After a long eleven hour drive, we finally made it to our Canadian destination. After resting a few hours at another aunt's house in Milton, I was ready to become tourist for a few days. My first stop was Niagara Falls just north of the Canadian border. Niagara Falls is the largest waterfall by volume in North America; and is one of the largest tourist attractions. Even though it was extremely crowded making viewing difficult; the experience was worth the inconvenience. I was able to walk around and see some of the area surrounding the falls. The town of Niagara has great places to shop, as well as, wonderful restaurants. I enjoyed spending time with both of my aunts and one uncle. On the way back to my aunt's house we stopped off at my favorite restaurant, Swiss Chalet. This franchise is only in Canada, which makes it a must stop place for my family and I to eat. In my opinion, their chicken and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Descriptive Adjectives Analysis of Descriptive Adjectives in Two Stories In any story, the reader needs some way of imagining what the author is writing about. When writing, authors use descriptive words to illustrate what they are trying to convey to the reader and to enhance their story. In the stories "The Treasure of Lemon Brown" byWalter Dean Myersand "The House of the Scorpion" by Nancy Farmer, both authors use descriptive words to develop the mood of the setting and the characters. In "The Treasure of Lemon Brown," Myers uses descriptive words to describe the setting, characters, and also the mood. He used such words in a scene from the story where the main character, Greg, is walking down an empty street and is looking for shelter from a thunderstorm. The phrase, "Graffitiā€“scarred building...grim shadows." is used to describe the buildings around him. These words are used to set up the depressed or ominous mood of the setting, by using words such as "scarred" and "grim." Those particular words cause it to seem as though the graffiti is old and permanent, as if the neighborhood has been this way for a while, and will remain that way: gloomy and depressed. Furthermore, Myers uses these descriptive words to describe Lemon Brown when he writes, "His black, heavily wrinkled face was surrounded by a halo of crinkly white hair and whiskers that seemed to separate his head from the layers of dirty coats piled on his small frame." From this the reader can tell that this is an aged man, who is Get more content on HelpWriting.net

A I finish my exaggerated packing I heard a thumping sound of knocks at the front door. I hurriedly squish everything and make my way to the door only to be greeted by Ely's joyful expression. Once we manage to pack our things in the trunk we head off to the airport. Once at the airport were greeted with our growling tummies ready to devour. The scent of sweet coffee filled my nostrils from the Starbucks station next to the subway. Once are meals our set we quickly stuff our hungry faces and hear a loud announcement that our flight was to depart in 10 minutes. When seated I tried to manage my tangles hair and off we were to our vacation in Honduras. Once, we reached the end of our flight we were met with the difficulty of finding our bags, once we did we excitedly made our way to the exit. As soon as we stepped outside the scent of good cooked meted melted in our minds. Immediately our attention zoomed into the busy streets overcrowding with people. "The louder you scream, the faster we go," an impersonal voice claims on the intercom. As the ride explodes with noise, the operator yawns and throws a lever. Outside his soundproof hut the ride accelerates, then, climax over, it slows and stops. The controller stumbles out of the box and lets the flushed people off of the ride. Some go straight to the back of the queue, others teeter off, stumbling over their own feet. Gritting his teeth, a man in the car park presses the accelerator to the floor, but to no avail. The grass is unrecognisable under all of the mud that has been churned up by the cars that have been coming and going all day. His face reddens as the wheels spin, spraying mud on to a shiny red Ferrari that someone was unsuspecting enough to bring. People are pointing and laughing and the owner of the Ferrari is shouting. Finally, someone is helpful enough to push him on his way and he leaves at top speed, without even bothering to say thank you. On the rollercoaster, a young girl screams, while her older brother looks almost ready to fall asleep. Her best friend in the seat behind is looking slightly green and is very much ready to go home. My body tingles, still feeling the need to be on the dance floor, moving with the music. Everything is soft and a little bit muted around me, and it all seems brighter. Everything is funny, so funny, I can't stop laughing. I didn't drink did I? It doesn't matter, because everything feels so good now. So good, until a...show more content... Where did it come from? Spinning around in search of the source, I notice that the dry cleaning shop behind me no longer has a front. Jagged edges of glass cling to the frame, but I can't figure out how the glass broke, how it got onto the ground, creating a blanket of danger across the pavement. Finally, finally, the sirens stop. It's so sudden, flooding the air with a moment of silence. My ears start to pick up the city noise again, faint and comforting in its normality. I hear footsteps behind my, and I turn to meet them. Twopolice officers are approaching me carefully, their guns drawn. What's happening? Why do they look like they're coming for me? I didn't do anything. • 15. Descriptive Essay Prologue I looked out onto what was left of the landscape before me one last time. I used to call this place home but it no longer resembles the one I used to know. "It's funny how things can go from bad to worse in such a short amount of time" I thought to myself. What once used to be a beautiful blue sky full of puffy clouds shaped like anything that could be imagined was now grey and lifeless. The clouds are no longer white and puffy but dark and menacing. They are racing towards us with the impending storm. The buildings we are leaving behind are still tall and immaculate compared to the brown wasteland around them. There was no longer green in sight except for the vehicles and billboards. From where my mother and I wait, I can see a large bird ā€“ a vulture I think ā€“ eating what looks like the body of a dead bald eagle. It breaks my heart to see my home like this. Iowa was once an area covered in vast prairies as far as the eye could see. Thunder crashes from overhead and I'm once again brought back to my reality. My mother and I are called forward, it's our turn. The president of the United States is sending us underground, and daddy isn't coming. Mommy said it's because he's sick and they don't want him infecting others. Not to worry though, he won't be alone. There are others staying behind. "It's time to go down now Andrew, wave goodbye to daddy" She whispers in my ear. I begin to frantically wave and yell over the anxious murmurs of the other families around Get more content on HelpWriting.net
