My Moral Compass
A compass is a navigational device that points the operator in a preferred direction, whereas a moral compass refers to the moral direction of the
individual. A moral compass is something everybody has and lives by. It helps assist in formulating decisions, and is based on morals and virtues.
Good managers need a strong moral compass to have the ability to influence others to follow suit, and do the right thing. My personal moral compass
is directed by foundational influences, sources, beliefs, and an analysis of the moral philosophies I follow. Just like the cardinal compass, an
individual's or organization's moral compass must be consistent. Factors such as moral intensity, education, nationality, age, and control help construct
an individual's ability to recognize and manage ethical issues. In this essay, I will describe the formative influences and sources that have generated my
sense of ethics, my beliefs regarding what constitutes business' social responsibility, an analysis of which moral philosophies I follow, and my stage of
Kohlberg's cognitive moral development.
Ethics are principles that govern a person or group's behavior. When dealing with a situation where there is no definite right or wrong answer, there
are always "extremes" to either side of the case, which in many instances creates a continuum of infinite options and possibilities. When trying to
resolve an ethical issue, I always try to find a "middle–ground," that takes every detail into account. I

Essay on moral compass
In my past 18 years, I have been living in an environment that people telling me what should I do and what should I not to do. My mum taught me
to be a good role model for my younger sister, my dad told me to study hard so I can have a good future. By going to school, teachers teach me that
what is 'right' and 'wrong' from the textbook and I have also been learning that from the TV, newspaper and radio. The mass media is always a
channel for me to receive what is 'right' and 'wrong' about the social. For example, there are critics about the politics, environmental issues etc. From
time to time, my moral compass had been shaped by my parents and the social norms.
Human beings always place their own interest on the top priority while...show more content...
Now, I have to behave well in front of my sister. My moral compass tells me what to do as a good sister and this always stop me from what I really
want to do in my heart. It upsets me because 'role model' has become a burden for me to do something I really like. For example, I would like to
learn street dance but my mother rejected it with not to affect adversely on my sister. She thought that I should put more effort on studying but not
something which is not related to academic. In school, I am the pianist of the school choir and I am responsible for the playing the piano part in
different occasion. When I was in form 1, I was told to be the pianist for the Speech Day and it really affected my life in secondary school a lot.
Since all the pianists playing in Speech Day were in Form 5 before, I became the youngest pianist ever in my school. People questioned why I can
stand on the stage because they think I am not qualified for that. I would like to do my best every time on stage so that people would agree with me
and understand the effort that I have paid. As a result, I have tremendous pressure as my moral compass tells me to perform well before going out to
perform as there are a lot of people looking at me and I would want to show them I am excellent player.
Moral compass is easily affected by others. I am a person always get lost although I know

Ethical And Moral Compass
The article Leadership is About Emotions interests me because it talk about emotional intelligence. I believe that this begins by knowing yourself.
What motivates you? What drives you to want to lead? The ethical and moral compass of a person is what directs me toward true leaders. Gandhi,
Mandela, MLK, Cesar Chavez, Rosa Parks, President Obama, Maya Angelou, et al, are examples of fearless conviction and personal sacrifice
supporting civil rights. Throughout the history of our planet, we have experienced such leaders, including our new Pope. Civil Rights' issues are
gut–wrenching, mind–soul connections that pierce one's heart, and internal moral compass. However, today that moral compass is frequently
by–passed by an over–powering personal

Moral Compass Essay
A compass is a navigational tool used to guide its user in a desired direction. It has four directions; east, west, north and south. A moral compass,
which I have recently learned, is also used to guide its user in a desired direction. A moral compass, when used, will provide its user moral focus as
the user learns to lead in an ever more challenging and demanding world throughout their life and career. A good leader needs a moral compass that
will keep the leader grounded in his most cherished values while negotiating and collaborating with people who may have radically different value
systems and lifestyles. As does a navigational compass, a moral compass also has four major directions, or parts. Moral Vision, Moral Code, Moral

Hopefully, they too will take away the elements of good teamwork and proper winning and losing as I did growing up. My moral vision will also
help to shape my professional future. As my career continues and my experience grows, I will hopefully be looked at as a good leader and
teammate. Without the positive moral vision that I shaped while growing up, my future as a leader would not possible. MORAL CODE A moral
code is the elements and framework used to shape my values and decisions throughout my life. Just as a pastor would base all actions on a bible, I
base all actions on my moral code. I have always known that I have a moral code that I am following but until now, I have never attempted to
articulate it. In the future, I hope to become a great leader for whatever company I am working for. It would probably be beneficial to me to figure
out the major points and elements to my moral code. According to our course manual, "A Moral Code is a coherent system of reasoned beliefs and
normative principles to guide behavior". Using the Primer Moral Theory information in our course manual required me to give this definition much
thought and allowed me formulate some stances on the topics that were listed. For Cultural Relativism, which says different cultures have different
moral codes, I found myself most disagreeing. Obviously, there are special situations and circumstances but for the most part, I believe that all cultures
should follow the same

The Moral Compass Essay
The moral compass Essay Introduction According to the definition of the Moral Compass text, moral compass is the reflective, international adoption
of values and behaviors as a framework for realizing the good in oneself, in others, and in the social and material environment. My own moral compass
is constructed mainly by my parents and the eastern social values and principles of relationships, which are largely influenced by the thoughts and ideas
of Buddhism, Taoism and the Confucianism. Among them, Confucianism affects my country's social values and furthermore my parents and my moral
compass the most. In the contrast of Western culture, Confucianism puts a huge emphasis on the relationships between individuals in family, school,

Moral Fitness My moral code and the belief of human nature evil leads me to cultivate the knowledge and the competences of myself. I believe it
is my own responsibilities to be sensitive about the interaction between people and learn how to protect myself from being hurt by others,
regardless intentionally or unintentionally. Therefore, I will make observations of people and the environments, to always best understand what
situation I am and try to set up some prevention measurements to set myself from falling into a bad situation. Also, I will try to grow myself to be
more intelligent and stronger. And the most important thing is, I will never try to do harms to people because I can simultaneously be more
sensitive to know whether if there is any harm to others by the measurements I am about to take. Defining the Moment Talking about the defining
moment of personal moral challenge, I had one experience facing challenge related to my moral code before. While I was at my elementary school,
I was kind of person that trusted everyone without any other thoughts. I just simply believed what other said to me, and was not dare or dislike to
reject other's request. Once there was a classmate and also friend of mine tried to borrow some money from me. He said that his mom was having
some financial problems and he and his sister were in bad condition. I knew that his family was a single family and I therefore went to the

Moral Compass
There is a difference between having a good or strong moral compass and being a good person. No matter how much you believe in justice or
equality or anything else, as long as you don't actively follow that compass, you can't honestly call yourself a good person. In fact, that might even
make you worse; you know something is wrong but you do it anyway. On one hand, I like to think that I believe in truth, justice and the equality of all
God's children, but in reality, even if I do believe this, I don't change my actions to fit my own code.
Lying has always been something that goes against my moral code. While it's not necessarily the utmost condemnable thing a person can do, it is a
more accessible evil. Most people I know don't commit murder or other grand crimes, but I'd venture to say most people I know lie. Ever since I was
young, I always felt that lying was so deeply wrong, purposefully deceiving the people around you. As long as I remember, I would feel so ashamed
whenever I lied, but on the...show more content...
Frankly, it doesn't really matter what my moral code is or how stupid my standards are for myself, if I seem like a good person and just tell people
what they want to hear, I will look fair and relatively moralistic. Your morals don't count towards you success. And although it may cause personal
unhappiness, everyone at some points needs to choose either their morals or their ambition. Choosing your morals may mean deeper emotional
happiness but choosing your ambitions means great success overall. I may be a hypocrite, and an unhappy one at that, but considering following my
ambitions has worked for me for the past eighteen years, I'm unlikely to stop now. At this point, my ambitions have drawn out a map for me, I'll go to
a good college, get a well–paying job and be otherwise successful. Emotional happiness be damned, I've worked to hard to suddenly change my entire
path in life and start following my

I.Introduction
A moral compass is the moral guide on which a person bases his/her decisions and distinguishes what is right from what is wrong. With our moral
compass, we know what rules we should play by. When I was a child, I learnt Chinese traditional wisdom, Confucianism, from my parents and
elementary school. The core of Confucianism is humanity, to be altruistic, upright and courteous within the society, from which I got to know the rules
I should honor. Never cheat. Be kind and honest. Don't do anything that will hurt others. These become the foundation of my moral compass.
As I grow older, I have been introduced to other theories which cast light on the formation of my moral compass....show more content...
According to my moral vision, I make my own code of conduct. First, don't judge. I shouldn't judge others' choices because they have their own
rights to choose freely. Second, don't do anything that will violate others' basic rights. Examples are as covering my cough, not making noise when
roommates are sleeping, etc. If I choose to do the opposite, it would make no difference to me, but it would put other people's rights at stake. Third,
others have no saying in my decisions. I expect people to respect my rights and not to control or disturb me. Just as the way I respect them, they should
respect me.
III.Defining Moment
My moral compass gives me guidance on many decision making situations. However, chances are high that interests of different groups cannot always
be saved at the same time. Under these circumstances, no matter which one I choose, there would always be someone whose rights would be violated.
This is my defining moment.
There is no such thing as "absolute good" but "good for". Whenever I meet my defining moment, I think about the question, "Whose good should I be
serving?" I am not saying to evaluate whose interests are more valuable, but to evaluate whose interests are more important TO ME. There are three
principles for me to evaluate different interests. The first is the interest's indirect impact on the third party. For example, the police are investigating a
theft and I know who the thief is. I must

Personal Moral Compass
It is important to take the time to discover what your moral compass is and decipher what it means to you. A moral compass is feelings or
thoughts that guide you through life that conveys to you what is right and what is wrong. As we continue to get older, we realize through
experiences how important it is to be aware of our own moral compass. Being mentally aware of your moral compass is vital to gaining more
understanding of your capabilities as a leader for your organization. You will use your moral compass as a leader to not only contribute to the
development of junior leaders, but also how you use it as it relates to your organizational mission. My personal moral compass is mostly derived
through spirituality. It is my personal belief...show more content...
Self–reflection is never easy. My moral philosophy could use some work. I have a strong evaluation of where I am and a strong understanding of
where I think I should be. I think that constant evaluation and reflection of your own philosophy is something we all need to sit back and evaluate
from time to time. I know what my weakness is. My weakness is I have a big heart and I naturally look for the good in everyone. Sometimes it
causes me to make poor decision and therefore, results in poor outcomes. Life has taught me that not everyone has the same moral compass I
possess. For a long time, I allowed myself to be disappointed by putting trust and expectations in people who just weren't capable of achieve the
standards I thought were acceptable. What I've learned is to simply accept people for who they are and respect them as individuals. I learned to
expect people to operate within their own capabilities. Understanding what people's capabilities are and not, helps me in setting priorities for them
to achieve and not set standards that aren't achievable. I think gaining that understanding is what made me a strong leader. I realize that my moral
compass still needs work. I often see myself as a selfish individual. I am working on what I consider this to be a weakness in my personality, however I
understand what it is, and work everyday to be less selfish. Becoming cognitive of my moral weaknesses, I've discovered that

A moral compass is something everybody has and lives by. It helps assist in formulating decisions, and is based on morals and virtues. Good managers need a strong moral compass to have the ability to influence others to follow suit, and do the right thing. My personal moral compass is directed by foundational influences, sources, beliefs, and an analysis of the moral philosophies I follow. Just like the cardinal compass, an individual's or organization's moral compass must be consistent. Factors such as moral intensity, education, nationality, age, and control help construct an individual's ability to recognize and manage ethical issues. In this essay, I will describe the formative influences and sources that have generated my sense of ethics, my beliefs regarding what constitutes business' social responsibility, an analysis of which moral philosophies I follow, and my stage of Kohlberg's cognitive moral development. Ethics are principles that govern a person or group's behavior. When dealing with a situation where there is no definite right or wrong answer, there are always "extremes" to either side of the case, which in many instances creates a continuum of infinite options and possibilities. When trying to resolve an ethical issue, I always try to find a "middle–ground," that takes every detail into account. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Throughout the history of our planet, we have experienced such leaders, including our new Pope. A moral compass, which I have recently learned, is also used to guide its user in a desired direction. A moral compass, when used, will provide its user moral focus as the user learns to lead in an ever more challenging and demanding world throughout their life and career. A good leader needs a moral compass that will keep the leader grounded in his most cherished values while negotiating and collaborating with people who may have radically different value systems and lifestyles. Without the positive moral vision that I shaped while growing up, my future as a leader would not possible. MORAL CODE A moral code is the elements and framework used to shape my values and decisions throughout my life. Just as a pastor would base all actions on a bible, I base all actions on my moral code. I have always known that I have a moral code that I am following but until now, I have never attempted to articulate it. In the future, I hope to become a great leader for whatever company I am working for. It would probably be beneficial to me to figure out the major points and elements to my moral code. According to our course manual, "A Moral Code is a coherent system of reasoned beliefs and normative principles to guide behavior". Using the Primer Moral Theory information in our course manual required me to give this definition much thought and allowed me formulate some stances on the topics that were listed. For Cultural Relativism, which says different cultures have different moral codes, I found myself most disagreeing. Therefore, I will make observations of people and the environments, to always best understand what situation I am and try to set up some prevention measurements to set myself from falling into a bad situation. Also, I will try to grow myself to be more intelligent and stronger. • 6. Moral Compass There is a difference between having a good or strong moral compass and being a good person. No matter how much you believe in justice or equality or anything else, as long as you don't actively follow that compass, you can't honestly call yourself a good person. In fact, that might even make you worse; you know something is wrong but you do it anyway. On one hand, I like to think that I believe in truth, justice and the equality of all God's children, but in reality, even if I do believe this, I don't change my actions to fit my own code. Lying has always been something that goes against my moral code. While it's not necessarily the utmost condemnable thing a person can do, it is a more accessible evil. Most people I know don't commit murder or other grand crimes, but I'd venture to say most people I know lie. Ever since I was young, I always felt that lying was so deeply wrong, purposefully deceiving the people around you. As long as I remember, I would feel so ashamed whenever I lied, but on the...show more content... • 7. Moral Compass Essay Moral Compass Essay Yuebo (Grace) Zhu I.Introduction A moral compass is the moral guide on which a person bases his/her decisions and distinguishes what is right from what is wrong. With our moral compass, we know what rules we should play by. When I was a child, I learnt Chinese traditional wisdom, Confucianism, from my parents and elementary school. The core of Confucianism is humanity, to be altruistic, upright and courteous within the society, from which I got to know the rules I should honor. I shouldn't judge others' choices because they have their own rights to choose freely. Second, don't do anything that will violate others' basic rights. Examples are as covering my cough, not making noise when roommates are sleeping, etc. If I choose to do the opposite, it would make no difference to me, but it would put other people's rights at stake. Third, others have no saying in my decisions. I expect people to respect my rights and not to control or disturb me. Just as the way I respect them, they should respect me. III.Defining Moment My moral compass gives me guidance on many decision making situations. However, chances are high that interests of different groups cannot always be saved at the same time. Under these circumstances, no matter which one I choose, there would always be someone whose rights would be violated. This is my defining moment. There is no such thing as "absolute good" but "good for". Whenever I meet my defining moment, I think about the question, "Whose good should I be serving?" I am not saying to evaluate whose interests are more valuable, but to evaluate whose interests are more important TO ME. There are three principles for me to evaluate different interests. The first is the interest's indirect impact on the third party. For example, the police are investigating a theft and I know who the thief is. I must

I have a strong evaluation of where I am and a strong understanding of where I think I should be. I think that constant evaluation and reflection of your own philosophy is something we all need to sit back and evaluate from time to time. I know what my weakness is. My weakness is I have a big heart and I naturally look for the good in everyone. Sometimes it causes me to make poor decision and therefore, results in poor outcomes. Life has taught me that not everyone has the same moral compass I possess. For a long time, I allowed myself to be disappointed by putting trust and expectations in people who just weren't capable of achieve the standards I thought were acceptable. What I've learned is to simply accept people for who they are and respect them as individuals. I learned to expect people to operate within their own capabilities. Understanding what people's capabilities are and not, helps me in setting priorities for them to achieve and not set standards that aren't achievable. I think gaining that understanding is what made me a strong leader. I realize that my moral compass still needs work. I often see myself as a selfish individual. I am working on what I consider this to be a weakness in my personality, however I understand what it is, and work everyday to be less selfish. Becoming cognitive of my moral weaknesses, I've discovered that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
