Residential Care Facility Manager
My career began in hospitality where I enjoyed a successful 23 years in this highly competitive
industry in regional New South Wales with highlights being the management of my families
internationally recognised tourist attraction and as owner/manager of an iconic and well respected
restaurant. Twenty years ago I made the progression into hum an/ healthcare services bringing
my training, business experience and knowledge in premium service management and delivery with
me.
I have demonstrable strengths in consensus-building amongst a large workforce as well as the
rigorous attention to detail required to manage a tight budget whilst maintaining accreditation
standards within an ongoing framework of, and commitment to, continuous improvement. Whilst
working in rural and regional communities, I further developed my capacity to reconfigure staffing and
services to adapt to constraints of available personnel and development opportunities offered.
I have a strong background and proven record within both the human services field, initially through
my work for the AIDS Council of New South Wales and then 10 years ago, transitioning into the Aged
Care sector where I am currently teamed with a progressive and well-respected aged care provider.
Although I continue to enjoy the challenges at my current employer, and more broadly within the
industry, I am nevertheless alert to alternative career opportunities that may arise, particularly ones
offering further career development.
My career objective is to join a highly regarded organisation in a role commensurate with my
experience, skills and abilities whilst maintaining a work/life balance. I am strongly motivated by
the opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives whilst working alongside, and leading a
team of equally ethically minded and dedicated professionals. At the appropriate time, I feel sure my
referees will confirm that I am a capable and conscientious senior executive who is business
focused and results driven. I am definitely seeking longevity with the right organisation.
Personality Snapshot
Generally regarded as being highly ethical, personable and approachable, I am able to quickly gain
the trust and respect of most people. My interpersonal skills are key to successful performance in my
current role which entails leading and managing a paid workforce of 140. I set high standards for
myself and my team putting in place appropriate supports that empower the team to grow into their
roles whilst taking ownership and being accountable. I also firmly believe that to gain full benefit from
their skills, my team needs to enjoy their work. My leadership style is one of leading by example and
transparency, and I find that this is a powerful motivator for those with whom I work. The result is a
highly focused and cohesive workforce that puts the interests of the client first whilst supporting the
organisation’s mission and vision.

Professional Experience
Facilities Manager July 2013 – present
Queensland Rehabilitation Services
Carindale Court and Carindale Lodge
Mount Gravatt East
QRS is a family owned group consisting of five residential care facilities. I am responsible for
management of two of these sites - Carindale Court and Carindale Lodge. These are co-located
a n d made up of 78 high and 39 lower care residential licenses. I am responsible for the
management of day-to-day operations and have also been seconded to a number of strategic
focus groups at the corporate level. Two of these are the return of the previously outsourced hotel
services (cleaning, laundry and catering) to direct management by QRS and the upgrade of the
organisations IT infrastructure and key software applications.
Initially employed as a change manager, I have been able to bring my previous experience and
learnings to the group where on commencing; I accepted the challenge of the facility manager at the
Court and Lodge. Some of these challenges were: the sites had had a number of managers
over the previous two years, the consolidation of two previously separately managed sites with
often, disparate management systems and processes along with a change in focus within the
organisation through not expecting that the facility manager be a RN.
In the past twenty months and as an early adopter within the organisation, I have overseen the
introduction of an electronic management system for clinical care, the introduction of an electronic
medication management system and been the driver of change with our electronic rostering system
– in particular, the introduction of a SMS text feature has enabled a responsive and timely
management of backfilling filling vacant shifts. This feature also proved to be invaluable and a key tool
in keeping family members and NOK informed and up to date during a recent lockdown of the facility
due to Gastro symptoms.
