Bibliography
1. Language investigation: Bibliography
Below is a list of different resources and their websites (if applicable) that I will be using in
my language investigation.
AQA English Language A2 textbook – Nelson Thorne.
I will be using this English Language textbook in order to find out the necessary
theorists and which thoughts/opinions apply to them. I am speaking purely about
language and gender in this investigation, so it is important that I can gather reliable
and relevant information. Furthermore, I will also be able to learn and incorporate
new and existing terminology into my work.
Friends and family.
I will be using the opinions of friends and family in order to obtain sustainable
information on the differences between male and female reporters in football. I shall
be asking them whether or not they like football, as well as how many female
reporters they know compared to how many male reporters they know. The
information obtained from my friends and family will be presented in some form of
graph.
Youtube.com.
I will be using youtube.com as a way of finding clips to watch that I can use in my
investigation as evidence. I have found two videos that I feel are both extremely
useful to me, in terms of providing information about male and female reporters.
The two clips I have chosen are both from the popular British football show, Match
of the Day.
One clip features Gary Lineker, as he interviews and debates with members of his
panel about England’s 1-1 draw with the United States in the 2010 World Cup.
The second clip features female BBC sport reporter Gabby Logan. In this clip, Gabby
is interviewing England goalkeeper Robert Green, who unfortunately made an error
that lead to the USA scoring a goal in the match. Green’s error was a key turning
point in the match, and was the reason that England left the game disappointed.
Gary and his panel had discussed the error literally 5 minutes before Gabby Logan’s
2. interview went on air the same night. Both of these clips are from the same show
and were aired within the same 10 minutes.
