Abstract
This study aims to determine the community 's participation in the management of school
budgets in Salatiga of Central Java Province, Indonesia. The research approach is
qualitative and data collection with method are documentation studies, focus group
discussions and in-depth interviews. The subject research are primary and junior high
school include public and private schools. The research resources are teachers,
principals, parents and school committee. The results showed that the stakeholders have
not been actively involved in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the school
budget in Salatiga of Central Java Province, Indonesia. Most sources of education
funding comes from Government, District and Local Goverment as implications of 9-year
compulsory in primary and junior high school. Management of the school budget is set
according to the Law and Government Regulation on the Financial State / Region.
Limitations of the role of the public is inconsistent with the principle of school based
management as the embodiment of decentralized education in Indonesia.

WP68 Does Medium of Instruction Affect Learning Outcomes

This research paper scrutinized the efficacy of investment and motivation for teachers’ professional development at ten randomly selected Secondary Schools of Dang, Nepal. He selected Dang as the field because the achievement level of students was low in the area. This article claimed that investment and self-motivation are key factors for professional development. The yardstick of an educator is to make students attain high grade. He tried to justify the significance of the investment and motivation for quality development, based on the information derived from the schools. He used document study, an interview guideline designed by the researcher, and observation to justify the claim that investment and intrinsic motivation improve students’ achievement levels. The poor quality of the learners is due to the lack of professional development for content delivery and pedagogical strategies. Table three in the discussion showed that out of ten schools, only one crossed 50 percentage mark in investment, which signaled the reluctance of the local government for the investment. The researcher attempted to answer the current practice and its direct impact on the result of the students. This report is a backup to increase the standard level of the schools with professional transformation.

This study described the practice of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) along with the supporting factors of the implementation of ESD in three elementary schools (SD) which are referred to as pilot education schools in Surabaya, namely SD Al Irsyad, Citra Berkat Primary Schooland Putat Gede I Surabaya Elementary School. The study used a qualitative approach with comparative descriptive methods. The instrument used in the form of in-depth interviews and documentation studies. Data analysis techniques included data reduction, data presentation and verification. The results of this study indicated that sustainable development practices that have been implemented in the Primary School in Surabaya take place (1) as diverse as conservation which includes the stages of preservation, restoration, adaptation and revitalization and ecoliteracy to facilitate so students can build connections, awareness and experience, (2) has been supported by the commitment of the school community and the leadership of the school principal as outlined in various policies and integrated into curricular and extracurricular activities, and (3) has shown a number of development indicators sustainable in the field of education. Based on the linkages of the three main aspects of ESD, it appears that practices implemented in schools are still dominantly focused on environmental activities. However, there have been efforts to link environmental activities with social and economic activities through entrepreneurship week, cultural appreciation shows and other collaborations and participation that involve the participation of school members, the community and other policy makers even though in a limited scope and simple activities.

Sustainable development education practices in elementary schools

This article examines the characteristics of school effectiveness and how the school effectiveness policy works in the context of education decentralization. The research approach is qualitative exploratory and was conducted in 2016 in 10 out of 35 districts/cities in Central Java Province. The results showed that there are eight characteristics of effective schools: effective school leadership, efficient learning processes, active community participation, a conducive school environment, increased professionalism of educators, heightened expectations of students, the commitment of teachers, which together lead to good student achievement. Local government policy has not been mentioned explicitly to build an effective school. The government system should contribute to creating effective schools through human resource development, community participation, provision of facilities and infrastructure, professional development of educators, guiding students’ and teachers' achievement, monitoring student progress, education financing to some degree, and the commitment of local governments to give appreciation to education actors.

ABSTRACT : The study focused on the impact of Educational resources on students‟ academic performance in Economics: a study of some Senior Secondary Schools in Lagos State Educational District one. Research objectives, question and hypotheses were formulated to guide the direction of the study. The study covers 110 senior secondary students and 40 teachers. Convenience sampling technique was used in selecting the sample size. 110 of the questionnaires were properly filed and returned. The study relied on the 110 properly filed and returned questionnaires for analysis. The data for the study was collected through research instrument developed by the researcher to obtain the appropriate data for the study. Data collected were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics such as frequency distribution and simple percentages were used to analyze the demographic and socio-economic background of the target respondents and the research question were analyzed. Pearson product moment correlation analysis and regression analysis were used to test the stated hypotheses. The research design that was adopted was the descriptive survey design. The result reveals that educational resources have an impact on students‟ academic performance in Economics. The finding also reveals that there is a significant effect of the level of qualification and preparation of teachers on students‟ academic performance in Economics in senior secondary schools. Based on the findings made in this study, it is therefore recommended that School administrators must constantly review, inspect and monitor school teaching and learning resources. Constant and consistent monitoring of school resource and ensuring its availability and proper utilization will make teachers and students take care of the school resources as well as take learning and academic activity seriously.

This research determined the effectiveness of Dynamic Learning Program for the six science process skills of our Grade 9 millennial learners of Soom Integrated School, Trinidad, Bohol, Philippines. These six science process skills are observing, communicating, classifying, inferring, measuring and predicting. Fifty three students were the respondents of the study and quasi experimental method was used. To determine the significant mean difference, z test was used. The target topics of the experiment were the three modules of the third grading period Volcanoes, Climate and Constellation. Findings revealed that Dynamic Learning Program helped students obtain higher academic performance in science, thus the six science process skills were enhanced and developed. Post test data rejected the null hypothesis there was a significant difference between the pre test and post test scores of the student. Dynamic Learning Program for Millennial Learners

This article aimed to identify the inhibiting factors and the internationalisation strategy of higher education in Indonesia. The study deployed a qualitative based on the case study at Muhammadiyah Higher Education Institutions. Data collected through in-depth interviews with key respondents include the leader of Higher Education, Research and Development Council of Muhammadiyah, university chancellors, and International Affairs Office head. Findings illustrate the factors hindering the internationalisation which are generally not much different from those described by previous research but here found one factor which has not been explained before, the geographical location of the university, which mostly located in small urban areas that depicted a condition in which cooperation with external parties, foreign institutions, is challenging. The finding also suggests that the internationalisation strategies formed in a very structured manner, involving internal and external university parties. Therefore, this is significant as it explores inhibiting factors and internationalisation strategy of higher education in Indonesia, where it still prioritises religious and cultural values in their educational systems. Practically, this result expected to be a useful reference for university leaders in formulating internationalisation strategies so that the quality of graduates produced can be further improved.

In Namibia, natural science (NS) is one of the priority subjects in upper primary phases (Grades 4 to 7). However, in the Omusati Region of Namibia, there are increasing public concerns that many learners are not performing well in NS. Thus, this study surveyed the views of NS teachers on the challenges affecting upper primary learners’ performance in NS at three selected combined schools in the Omusati Region. Qualitative research design using face-to-face interview was used to gather the views of upper primary NS teachers in the schools. Seven teachers who are currently teaching NS at the selected schools were selected using the purposive sampling method to participate in the study. The results obtained revealed that the following challenges affect upper primary learners’ performance in NS in the selected schools: medium of instruction, lack of adequate teaching and learning resources, lack of laboratories, sensitive topics, overcrowded classroom, indiscipline among learners, absenteeism, unfavorable teaching environment, hunger, and lack of proper guidance from subject advisory teachers. The study recommended that the government should provide schools with feeding programs, build laboratories, renovate classes and provide teaching materials. The schools should evolve disciplinary measures to check the learners’ indiscipline.

"The aim of primary education is to provide education at the basic level of all ongoing primary school pupils. This study was carried out to investigate influence of home and school based factors on pupil's academic performers at Kenya certificate of primary education in Makadara sub county, Nairobi County. The study adopted the ex post facto design which involved the studies that investigate possible causes and effects by observing an existing condition and searching back in time for possible causal factors. It involved testing out possible antecedents of events that had happened and cannot be manipulated by the investigator. The study sampled 240 teachers, 39 Parents Association members and 150 pupils from class 6 and 7. The data collection instruments comprised of questionnaires and interview guide. Data collected was categorized, coded, analyzed then tabulated. The analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social Sciences SPSS . The analysis was both qualitative and quantitative. Quantitative analysis considered use of frequency counts and distribution, tabulation totals and calculation of percentages aimed at generating the data collected into meaningful groups and frequency tables for further analysis. Qualitative analysis involved the conclusions from the respondents' opinions. The study established that most parents had a college educational level, majority of the teachers were female whereas majority of the students were males. It also established that parental level of income influenced pupils' performance in KCPE at 60 s. Physical facilities and teaching and learning resources were also cited as factors that highly influence performances. The researcher recommended that the parents should provide a conducive learning environment at home to give the pupils ample time and space to study. Parents ought to strive to provide the basic required learning materials that are vital for a good performance in the KCPE exam irrespective of their level of income. The government should endeavor to allocate funds to be used for improving on the existing teaching and learning resources in public primary schools while adding more. The government should allocate enough funds that will enable provision of key physical learning facilities. Abstract: The Kenya Government has invested resources on Free Primary Education in order to improve on the pupil’s academic performance. Despite the high investment in training school heads, the performance in Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in many schools is still low especially in Tindiret Sub-County. This may be attributed to several influences of headteachers leadership styles among other factors. Poor academic performance in some schools has resulted to public outcry, protests by parents. This study investigated the extent to which selected headteachers’ leadership styles influences pupils’ academic performance. The study adopted descriptive research design. The target population comprised of 76 headteachers and 532 teachers in Tindiret Sub-County. Two-self-administered questionnaires were used to obtain data on headteachers’ and teachers’ perceptions on school leadership styles in relation to academic performance. Document analysis of KCPE results gathered information about the school KCPE performance from 2011 to 2014. The results of the study’s findings were that, the autocratic and laissez faire leadership styles had significant negative relationship with school performance in schools. Democratic and transformational leadership styles had significant positive relationship (p<0.05) with academic performance of schools. The study recommends that school head teachers to involve other stakeholders in decision making, they should involve teachers and pupils in setting school targets, they should hold regular meetings and champion the application of transformational leadership ideals.

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between instructional program and academic achievement of students in national examinations in public secondary schools in Tinderet sub county Kenya. The objective of this study was: to determine the impact of leading the instructional program on the students’ academic achievement in national examinations. The study was guided by the effective schools model by Lezotte (2010), which states that an effective school is characterized by seven correlates namely: leading the instructional program, focus on school mission, safety and orderliness of schools, expectations for success, home-school relations, frequent monitoring of students progress and opportunity to learn for students. The researcher employed a survey design targeting all the 18 public secondary schools in Tinderet Sub County, all the 18 principals and the 225 teachers. Stratified sampling technique was used to select 10 schools for the study from the total 18 schools in the distinct. The sampled schools were stratified according to the academic performance for the last three years (2011-2013). All the principals of the sampled 10 schools took part in the study. Simple random sampling was used to select 90 teachers (9 teachers from each school selected). The sample size was 100 respondents. Questionnaires and interview guide were used to collect data. The descriptive survey allowed the generation of both qualitative and quantitative data. Quantitative data was analyzed using the descriptive statistics including frequencies and percentages. Pearson product moment correlation coefficient and Anova were used to make inferences. Qualitative data was put under themes consistent with the research objectives. The analyzed data was then presented in form of graphs, pie charts and tables for easy interpretation. Findings from the study showed that, majority of the principals indicated that they always led the instructional program. Majority of the teachers on the other hand indicated that, principals did not always engage in these leadership practices but did engage sometimes. Analysis of variance between principals' and teachers' responses on similar issues indicated that there was a significant difference in the manner teachers and principals were responding to questions. Findings on the effect of leadership practices on academic performance were consistent as the teachers and principals were in agreement that these leadership practices when applied had a positive effect on academic performance. Correlation test however revealed that the effect was weak as indicated by the correlation coefficients which were below 0.5. The study concluded that; leading the instructional program was not being implemented fully. The curriculum is the heart of education, whose job determines the life or death of a school. This study aimed to compare the implementation of Adiwiyata school curriculum between public and private school in junior high schools, especially in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Data collection techniques by means of literature studies. Data analysis techniques were carried out with qualitative comparative analysis. The results showed that: public and private schools in junior high schools in Bantul Regency, had fulfilled the four main components of the Adiwiyata curriculum, in terms of objectives, content, methods, and evaluation. The implementation of Adiwiyata curriculum in each public and private school varies according to the characteristics and potential of each school.

This study aimed to analyze the effect of intrinsic learning motivation and school learning environment on economics learning outcome partially and simultaneously. Population and sample of this study was 87 X grade students of accounting at SMK Wijaya Putra Surabaya. Data gathering techniques used were questionnaires and documentations. Analysis method used was multiple linear regressions. The result of the study showed that intrinsic learning motivation and school learning environment partially affected learning outcomes significantly positive. Intrinsic learning motivation and school learning environment simultaneously affected learning outcomes significantly positive.

Abstract: The significance of parental participation in education achievement of learners at any level cannot be over-emphasized. Despite the Kenyan government policy that requires parents to be actively involved in the education of their children at six levels. Available studies show that parents are not as actively involved as required and even those who are involved; their involvement is limited to provision of finances, facilities and attendance of meetings. The study sought to investigate challenges facing parents in their active participation in the education of pre-school learners in Kiogoro Division, Kisii County, with a view of suggesting ways of promoting active parental participation in education of pre-school learners. The study reviewed various literatures on some past studies and assessed their contribution to the objectives of this study. The study used descriptive survey design to carry out the study with both qualitative and quantitative methodologies of collecting data. The study sample comprised of 10 pre-schools, 10 primary school head teachers, 10 pre-school teachers and 111 parents. The study used simple random sampling to select pre-school teachers and parents. Purposive sampling was used to select primary school head teachers and pre-school teachers. Data was collected by use of questionnaire, interview schedule and document analysis guide. Coded data was presented using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version and analyzed using descriptive statistics such as percentages presented in tables as well as Pearson correlation to establish the relationship between the variable. The study found that lack of clear policies in preschools regarding parental participation, lack of proper mode of communication with their children; poor parent-preschool teacher relationship, unfavourable head teachers’ leadership style and illiteracy among the parents were some of the challenges facing parents in their active participation in education of preschool learners. Parents should be encouraged through various programs on participation in education welfare of their preschool learners. Awareness programs for parents should be organized informing them on the benefit of their participation in education activities for their children. Parents should also be enlightened on the best communication practices with both their children and the school administration to foster good parent-teacher and parent-child relationship. The study suggest that future studies should be done on institutional factors influencing parental participation in education welfare of the preschool learners and socio-demographic factors influencing parental participation in education welfare of the preschool learners.

The research approach is qualitative and data collection with method are documentation studies, focus group discussions and in-depth interviews. The subject research are primary and junior high school include public and private schools. The research resources are teachers, principals, parents and school committee. The results showed that the stakeholders have not been actively involved in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the school budget in Salatiga of Central Java Province, Indonesia. Most sources of education funding comes from Government, District and Local Goverment as implications of 9-year compulsory in primary and junior high school. Management of the school budget is set according to the Law and Government Regulation on the Financial State / Region. Limitations of the role of the public is inconsistent with the principle of school based management as the embodiment of decentralized education in Indonesia.
