First Nonfiction Reading embeds crucial components of language learning. It emphasizes
comprehension activities for students to recycle the knowledge and sight words encountered in the
reading passage. This facilitates for thinking skills, exercises logic, and eventually supports their
critical thinking and memory skill. The background information is also transmitted through stealth
learning where vocabulary and grammar structures are presented in a recurring set of post-reading
activities in each unit. Students also encounter a wider range of expressions which they can use in
everyday English given a specific situational context.
First Nonfiction Reading also supplements the readers
knowledge in the content with the use of sight words
and phonics words. This progressive syllabus design
