Importance Of Individuality
If everyone was the same no one would love their life. In society today, there are many things that try to take away society individuality. For example,
in Anthem, a novel by Ayn Rand, and in North Korea there is not much individuality. Individuality has a purpose because if society does not have
individuality people are not special, and the world would be dull and boring.
Individuality is very important to society because if people had no individuality then the world would not be as much of a happy place for people in
different places around the world. In some societies it is very dull and everyone is the same. In North Korea no one is more special than another
person except in the government. In Anthem no one is different, it is more...show more content...
Picking your job is very important and a serious problem today in some parts of the world
If there is individuality in society there will be new innovations and the world will continue to blossom with creativity. In North Korea there are not
many new things being made. Actually, they are behind the rest of the worlds technology, they are not allowed to have smart phones and are only
allowed to have very restricted internet access. In Anthem there are only new innovations every couple of years. They are also very behind in
technological advances they, are still using fire for light. The society is not allowed to even speak about new things or they will be taken away. This is
why societal innovations are very important.
Individuality increases happiness and self–esteem in a person. Self–esteem in a person is very important because if you don't have self esteem it might
cause you to want to harm yourself or you might not want to be around others which can cause you to be unhappy. In Anthem there is no individuality
so many people have a low self esteem which makes them not want to hang around others. Also in Anthem people are not as happy because there is no
individuality. Studies show that individuality improves self esteem and happiness. According to teen–specializing coach Sarah Newton "Unfortunately,
society encourages us all to look and act a certain way, and anything that even vaguely goes against those societal norms, is often challenged or
ridiculed.

Individuality Vs Conformity Essay
"There is a time in every man's education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself
for better, for worse, as his portion." As human beings, we always encounter the critical decision in our daily lives of whether to pursue individuality or
conformity in various situations. Although I believe that individuality is certainly more powerful than conformity, I noticed that many ignore the
necessity of harmony between individualism and conformity. If individuality is absolutely more powerful to the point that we should never accept
conformity, then should we avoid conforming to the laws of our country and instead commit multiple crimes simply because we want to? On the other

He suggests that we focus more on individual progress instead of societal progress. Many could interpret his view as an absolute separation of the
individual from the rest of the world. I, on the other hand, contend that he simply believed that we should not allow society to overbear on us and
drew a line between appreciating solitude and pursuing absolute aloneness. With a weak individuality, conformity becomes oppression. We must
believe in our own ideas because we are unique. We cannot feel fulfilled or successful in our lives if we live the life of someone else. Emerson
demonstrated a skillful use of language and rhetoric to communicate his point. He conveys that the main times in which we should act as individualists
are when we are expressing ourselves in "communities of opinion," when the attitudes or expectations of others limit our potential, when fearing a
demonstration of inconsistency in front of others, and when the line between relishing solitude and living as a social hermit is clear. In his essay,
Emerson stated, "Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist." Although this originally seems like an extreme statement, Emerson is referring to
popular conformity instead of natural conformity.

Individualism Essay
Individualism Individualism is a view that stresses the significance and worth of every individual. They include complex convictions, ethics, exercises,
and courses of action around identity. The self is viewed as interdependent with groups; Individual goals take precedence over group goals and not the
family, they tend to be raised in richer cultures and emphasize personal freedom, achievement, privacy, and autonomy. Their social practices have a
tendency to be directed by their states of mind and dispositions of the individual. Individualists focus on the needs of themselves and their attitudes and

In an individualist culture, individual personal goals take priority over their constancy to their groups like family or the business employers. The
reliability to a group is extremely feeble; they believe they have a place within many groups and are able to change their participation as it suits
them, changing religions or places of worship, for instance, or abandoning one job for another. In an Individualist culture, you learned to grow into
your own person, shaping your life to fit into your own mold rather than that of others. Parents in individualist cultures have a tendency to be more
definitive; they promote advanced freedom, independence, investigation of the earth, and put less accentuation on dutifulness and friendliness, as
opposed to restricting yourself to the qualifications or stipulations of a group. They want you to figure out how to see yourself as your own
particular being. They want to mentality drive you to see your own novel advantages and attributes. Things like going to college, drawing, and
painting are diversions that could assume an enormous part of someone's life, yet the group is not needed to drive these interests onto a person. In
addition, being your own individual gives you responsibility for your activities. Furthermore, when you need to achieve objectives, you need to put in
the diligent work as opposed to anticipating that others will do work for you. An example of individualism would

Individuality
Individuality is defined as "the particular character, or aggregate of qualities, that distinguishes one person or thing from others; sole and personal
nature" (Dictionary.com), and is a common theme throughout literature that celebrates a person's character and personality. This theme can be found in
a multitude of literature sources, some including: The Giver by Lois Lowry, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Kurt Vonnegut,Hairspray
directed by John Waters, Dancing With Style directed by Xander de Boer, and The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. Each piece of literature has its
own uniqueness. For example, in The Giver and Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, the setting is in a dystopian world, warning society the

life as everyone in his community, with no emotion and connectivity with anyone. Jonas makes this extremely difficult decision to pursue a life with
love, passion, and pain. He is courageous enough to accept and experience the feelings his community has deemed unnecessary, and would agree with
E.E. Cummings in that "It takes courage to grow up and become who you really

Conformity vs. Individuality Essay
"People don't talk about anything...and nobody says anything different from anyone else" This quote, from Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury,
demonstrates how this fictional society had no individuality, yet they expressed no disprovement of the conformity. To be so simple minded as this
civilization was would have eventually lead to self–destruction. To support my theory, recall in the novel when the old lady chose to commit suicide
because she did not have freedom. She felt that even though she was "free" she was "enslaved" by the enforcement of limited knowledge. <br>

this society dared not to have different opinions or to disagree. Everyone was predictable and identical, wouldn't that be a "perfect society?" No
one disagreeing, no disputes, no wars? I beg to differ because disagreeing and disputing create change. They also allow us to state our opinions as
well as to listen to others opinions. After allowing other opinions to be broadcasted, you might identify an error in your opinion which could

Essay on Individualism
Individualism 1) An individualist is considered to be someone with personality and character, someone who is not easily intimidated by social pressure
or customs, someone with a personal opinion and a singular view of the world. Because modern society finds it important that people think
independently, decide autonomously and take personal initiatives, the concept of individualism has acquired a positive connotation. However,
individualism is also linked with the tendency to withdraw from social life and turn in towards oneself.
2) Which drives people to withdraw into a small, enclosed world consisting of their family and a few select friends, leaving the rest of society to its

I have never experienced an intense passion to look, act, or think like someone. I believe that in a mundane world where as humans our genetic
makeup aligns 99% with one another, we should strive to preserve any individuality we possess. As the Renaissance taught us, the idea of
individuality creates a vibrant human society where despite being similar we possess certain traits that make us unique in our own way. Personally, I
believe my individuality lies in my ability to recognize patterns and think in a logical fashion. I would never consider to alter myself to think, act, or
look like someone else. That idea completely frightens me, to only imagine myself with a similar thought process to Sarah Palin or Creationists sends
a shiver down my back! The...show more content...
The act of forcefully altering ourselves can result in disastrous effects. Langston Hughes, for example, experienced emotional devastation by
pretending as if he experienced a religious epiphany. What a pity! I met people who have forcefully altered themselves to experience certain
benefits that others have. For example, certain students mimic the actions of other students in hopes that they will earn higher grades. The idea of
looking up to someone can be beneficial no doubt. To lose your own sense of individuality in that ambition however, defines a bargain I would
never desire. Although I look up to certain people myself, for example the astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, I would not desire his mindset.
Instead, I would attempt to rise to a position with similar caliber based upon my own capabilities and my own mindset. I think that Tyson became a
leading astrophysicist based upon his own mindset and so must I, with my own mindset. Many of the great inventions and discoveries of our time took
place due to a differing mindset that challenged the norms of the day, likewise only the same can occur in the future and we should cherish our
differences for reasons such

Essay On Individuality Vs Conformity
In the article title "Individuality vs. Conformity: The Healthy Middle?" by an anonymous high school student it says that there are only two thing
that a typical high school student wants to typically achieve in their short high school life (par. 1). One of these things is to fit in (par. 2). The
second one is to be different (par. 3). How could you do this?. You could choose to be individual or just conform. However I really maintain the
idea that what we should really do it's to stay in the middle so we won't forget who we really are and still be liked by different groups of people. I've
always believed that being individual was good. But other people prefer to believe that conformity is better. Although I should know better by now, I
cannot help thinking that sometimes people do need to get involve with other people. Furthermore, I believe that people should just try to be in the

It may be impossible because science says the we were born to conform but we could still try to take our own decisions and be a little individual

some decisions other people take for us, and if we are only individuals we also might feel lonely and people will think you are weird. For this
reason I believe that we should stay in the middle. `In the article "Which one? Individuality vs conformity..." by Pinn he says that he was surprised
that most of the people who live in the society would actually go with "conformity". I believe this is because they think that society is not going to
talk, involve, or talk to them if they are individual but as I said before, if you fully conform you are not going to to be able to take your own
decisions. That is why I maintain my claim the we should be in

Mass public schooling has created a divide amongst the foundation of whether to prioritize individuality or conformity. If we as a society choose to
base schooling off of the guidelines of conformity, the individuality in each and every student will soon be lost due to being forced to comply to the
school system, therefore hindering student's sense of individuality. Prioritizing individuality in the schools allows students to be free of constraints, and
to increase their want to learn through being able to differentiate and personalize their schedules. An education system based off of forcing individual
and different students to all follow the exact same course standard should be outlawed due to this being an outdated guideline of teaching.

Have you ever seen vipers just constrict around their prey, taking away their last hope and breathe? Time and time again the world wants everyone to

to be like themselves and yet at the same they want us to look just the same. Always bland and tasteless, nothing to show color, nothing to show the
beauty that we show when we are ourselves. Uniforms just another viper that constrict our great individuality, our emotions, our wanting to be seen not

Emotions can be shown, and mostly our clothing shows that we want to be seen as flashy, dark, or even hopeful. Although when uniforms come into
the equation what does it give us? Nothing. No showing into ones emotion, no show of how that person is feeling. Although yes their face can show
a few words is it really enough? No it's not, Uniforms just show you are just another bland person with minimal to nothing in feeling, and yes we can

What Are Emerson's Views On Individualism
Emerson begins his major work on individualism by declaring the importance of thinking for oneself instead of humbly acquiring someone else's
belief. Emerson says, "To believe that what is true in your private heart is true for all men – that is genius". The one who scorns personal intuition and,
instead, chooses to admit others' opinions lacks the inventive power necessary for strong, fearless individualism. Emerson says, "Trust thyself," a
saying that ties along this initial section of the essay. This simply resembles to believe others' judgments is poor–spirited, with no inspiration or hope.
An individual with dignity, exhibits originality and is childish unspoiled by egoistic desires but mature. Emerson currently focuses his attention...show

Religion's main drawback is its worry of individual creativeness. Emerson's criticism of society, and particularly its misguided notion of progress,
differs from his earlier comments on the topic. He debates that society does not essentially improve from material changes, as an example, advances in
technology lead to the loss of some sorts of wisdom: The one that incorporates a watch loses the flexibility to inform time by the sun's position in the
sky. Thesis: Are "self–reliance" and "being independent" two sides of the same coin? This question is more like a debatable topic where different
individual have their own perspectives and views. The first objective mentioned above deals with self–reliance and the second mentioned below
matches the contradictions of independence together with self–reliance. There is a clear space of overlapping however "independence" is regarding
decision–making within the condition you are in, whereas "self–reliance" concerns management of the resources necessary to support significant
independence. Over the past few years self–reliance has decreased remarkably throughout the world with the increase in dependencies of individuals on
others and entities. Individuals are getting more and more cross–dependant and reliable on support either in materialistic or moralistic means. Finally to
be self–reliant one need to do things metaphorically and more figuratively that is in one's destiny

Individualism And Its Impact On Society
Many people across the world have their own definition and beliefs of the word individualism. There is nothing selfish to be able to express ones
personality and internal emotions. Being an individual alone could value a person's overall true character. The claim presented would be opposed by
many because people like to feel independent and self–reliant. Individualism in today's society lets people express themselves, and helps create
something small into something big. For a long time now individualism has existed since the founding of our country. History was created by those

Another example could be the ending of racial segregation. People like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa parks fought individuality to stop
segregation. Today's society is better because of what a couple of individuals did to make it this way. This could also be supported by this quote, "And
while the law [of competition] may be hard for the individual, it is best for the race, because it ensures the survival of the fittest in every department."
(Carnegie). Individuality was greatly used when defending the right for equality in between the races. Society today has progressed over the centuries
due to the bravery of several individualists. People pride themselves in their individuality to make the world better, memorable and unforgettable.
Consequently, individualism is the key to making the society better and turn something that could benefit towards others. Many believe that people
who think about themselves are self–centered and do not care about the people around them. That is where their wrong. Individualism is not just about
one certain person; it is about the whole world. Stated by President Woodrow Wilson, "America is not anything if it consists of each of us. It is
something only if it consists of all of us." (Wilson). This proclamation overall shows how everyone is their own individual self but as a nation we all
stand together. People are individuals.

Why Is Individuality Important
In a time like the 21st century, individuality is especially important. Everywhere you go there's a person that's trying to either be themselves or
they're trying to be like someone else. Everyone has her own sense of uniqueness, some people either keep it to themselves, or they like to make it
known that they are different. Individuality is the genre of music you like, it's the hobbies you like to do in your free time, it's the little things you do
that define who you are. Finding your personal individuality is a part of life. Throughout life you have been surrounded by things that will shape who
you are and those thing will help determine who you will become to be.
It is important to express your selfness. In order to do that you must be comfortable with who you are and you must accept the fact that you are
unlike anyone else. This isn't a bad thing at all. Recently, I learned to embrace who I am. Before then, I was very insecure and quiet. I had to realize

Some people think that "being yourself" is a bad excuse to be selfish and to not conform to society. Personally I think that establishing your
individuality is important to do because people need to express who they are and not try to be like each other. For example, I rap and in order to gain
fans I try to distinguish myself from other rappers on Soundcloud because if not, no one will want to make music with me which will make it even
harder to become known. Growing up as a kid I didn't exactly fit in with all the other popular kids. As i got older it meant more to me to be who I am.
Come to find out i fit in more if i was just myself. I realized that I'm not that different from other people because some people are just as weird as
me. That's when I realized individuality is something to not be ashamed of. No two people are exactly alike and I feel that it's a part of life to find that

Essay On Individuality In The Giver
"Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of progress"– John F. Kennedy. Pacific Trails planning committee is debating whether to create a

better choice because there's a greater life experience and there are more contributions to society.
In a society built on individualism, there is a more vivid life experience as shown in The Giver by Lois Lowry. "[Jonas] He found he was angry now:
irrationally angry at his group mates that they were satisfied with their lives which had none of the vibrance his own was taking in"(Lowry #99).
Jonas, being the new Receiver, has been given memories of things he has never experienced first hand, such as color and weather, and it made him

The Importance Of Individuality
Individuality
Individuality is when you are different from others around you. Many people forget to be themselves and try to be like everyone else. High school
students and celebrities forget to be themselves. Everyone tries so hard to fit in with those who surround them that they forget that being original isn't a
bad thing. First, many kids in high school act opposite of what they really are. Teenagers just want to fit in in high school, no one wants to be
bullied. Kids are put into "categories" during their high school years and it is very rare for a kid to not be in a category. Every school has the
athletes, "nerds", jerks, and the ones who try to fit in. if you are put in the group of the jerks, then you are more than likely going to be in that
group for years. Everyone wants to fit in so bad, but no one is going to remember where you stood in high school 20 years after you graduate
unless you are rude to everyone to be "cool". Many people want to be "popular" and if they aren't they don't think they are good enough. High
school causes people to change who they are to fit in. Girls have the exact same hair. Boys act the same. Everyone wants to be alike so no one
really stands out, and that's not always a good thing. Next, in Hollywood, celebrities are all the same. Every actor acts alike and puts on a fake
face for the cameras. If every actor/actress are just alike then Hollywood would quit hiring people because everyone is the same. If you are
yourself and are different from everyone else in Hollywood (and life) then you stand out to people more and can make a career from it. People
might think you're hilarious, nice, and an all around wonderful person. However, people act how they want others to see them, like in interviews.
Anyone can put on a good face and be as nice as can be for a few seconds, minutes, or even hours, but that is just to be liked and to fit in. If they lie
about anything, big or small, and then the truth comes out no one will believe what they say again. Lying only makes them untrustworthy. Lastly, just
be yourself. If you lie you can hurt others and hurting others can come back to hurt you. Don't be untrustworthy just to fit in for a few years because it
will make you look bad.

Individualism In Modern Society
In modern culture, societal views on individuality are vastly effecting the new generation of people. Individualism, emphasizes the ability for one's
morals to be independent from society. Many who express individuals tend to dismiss the status–quo, as they recognize their self worth and the
capability to realize it is acceptable to be different. Meanwhile, others who may struggle to determine their individualism, tend to struggle with figuring
out who they are and why they are special in society. Society creates sources of criteria that enables stereotypes that reducing one's ability to become an
individual. Society also creates ideals of who you should become in society which tends to be similar to your peers around you. Although there are
people who are accepted by society who express enormous amounts of individualism, the overall impact of society tends to hinder one's role as an
individual in the community due to requirements that society has created. We have all heard of names such as Heidi Klum, Kendall Jenner, and Gigi
Hadid. These ladies are not only seen as models, while they have achieved the term supermodel. How they have attained this title is no question. In
modern society to reach this label you must meet the requirements that tag–along. Big brands as Wilhelmina, Fords, and hundreds of other modeling
agencies regularly have overarching trends that are perceived by society that create ideals for models that they must be "over 5'9, weigh no more than

Maintaining Individuality
There are many different ways to respond to conflict. Some of the responses include having a good attitude, keeping a stable frame of mind, avoidance,
and maintaining individuality. Groups of individuals have used these different approaches with varying degrees of success. One of the best ways to
respond to conflict is maintaining individuality, or maintaining individuality as a group of people that share a common culture or beliefs.
As shown in many different sources, maintaining individuality as an individual or a group can greatly affect the outcome of a situation. A great
example of this is in the 1940s during the prosecution of the Jews. One town in the Netherlands protected themselves from Nazi invasion by

The Nazi flag and a picture of Hitler was put up in every classroom and every day started with a solute to their leader Hitler (Bartoletti 399). Hitler

Businesses and employees. An article describes " The boycott of April 1, 1933, and the ensuing wave of racial legislation aimed at Jewish employees
in the public services and the various professions" ( Shoah 5). By implementing this boycott and not allowing the Jewish people to work the Nazi'se
were supressing the Jews' individuality. The final example of suppression of individuality occurred when the Japanese–Americans were placed in camps
out in the middle of the desert. A letter from one of the Japanese Americans states "The nearest town, Parker, Arizona, was sixteen miles away and it

Importance Of Individuality

  • 1. Importance Of Individuality If everyone was the same no one would love their life. In society today, there are many things that try to take away society individuality. For example, in Anthem, a novel by Ayn Rand, and in North Korea there is not much individuality. Individuality has a purpose because if society does not have individuality people are not special, and the world would be dull and boring. Individuality is very important to society because if people had no individuality then the world would not be as much of a happy place for people in different places around the world. In some societies it is very dull and everyone is the same. In North Korea no one is more special than another person except in the government. In Anthem no one is different, it is more...show more content... Picking your job is very important and a serious problem today in some parts of the world If there is individuality in society there will be new innovations and the world will continue to blossom with creativity. In North Korea there are not many new things being made. Actually, they are behind the rest of the worlds technology, they are not allowed to have smart phones and are only allowed to have very restricted internet access. In Anthem there are only new innovations every couple of years. They are also very behind in technological advances they, are still using fire for light. The society is not allowed to even speak about new things or they will be taken away. This is why societal innovations are very important. Individuality increases happiness and self–esteem in a person. Self–esteem in a person is very important because if you don't have self esteem it might cause you to want to harm yourself or you might not want to be around others which can cause you to be unhappy. In Anthem there is no individuality so many people have a low self esteem which makes them not want to hang around others. Also in Anthem people are not as happy because there is no individuality. Studies show that individuality improves self esteem and happiness. According to teen–specializing coach Sarah Newton "Unfortunately, society encourages us all to look and act a certain way, and anything that even vaguely goes against those societal norms, is often challenged or ridiculed. • 2. Individuality Vs Conformity Essay "There is a time in every man's education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better, for worse, as his portion." As human beings, we always encounter the critical decision in our daily lives of whether to pursue individuality or conformity in various situations. Although I believe that individuality is certainly more powerful than conformity, I noticed that many ignore the necessity of harmony between individualism and conformity. If individuality is absolutely more powerful to the point that we should never accept conformity, then should we avoid conforming to the laws of our country and instead commit multiple crimes simply because we want to? On the other ...show more content... He suggests that we focus more on individual progress instead of societal progress. Many could interpret his view as an absolute separation of the individual from the rest of the world. I, on the other hand, contend that he simply believed that we should not allow society to overbear on us and drew a line between appreciating solitude and pursuing absolute aloneness. With a weak individuality, conformity becomes oppression. We must believe in our own ideas because we are unique. We cannot feel fulfilled or successful in our lives if we live the life of someone else. Emerson demonstrated a skillful use of language and rhetoric to communicate his point. He conveys that the main times in which we should act as individualists are when we are expressing ourselves in "communities of opinion," when the attitudes or expectations of others limit our potential, when fearing a demonstration of inconsistency in front of others, and when the line between relishing solitude and living as a social hermit is clear. In his essay, Emerson stated, "Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist." Although this originally seems like an extreme statement, Emerson is referring to popular conformity instead of natural conformity. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Individualism Essay Individualism Individualism is a view that stresses the significance and worth of every individual. They include complex convictions, ethics, exercises, and courses of action around identity. The self is viewed as interdependent with groups; Individual goals take precedence over group goals and not the family, they tend to be raised in richer cultures and emphasize personal freedom, achievement, privacy, and autonomy. Their social practices have a tendency to be directed by their states of mind and dispositions of the individual. Individualists focus on the needs of themselves and their attitudes and personal needs are important determinants of behavior. Their uniqueness is valued, they award social status to personal achievement, are...show more content... In an individualist culture, individual personal goals take priority over their constancy to their groups like family or the business employers. The reliability to a group is extremely feeble; they believe they have a place within many groups and are able to change their participation as it suits them, changing religions or places of worship, for instance, or abandoning one job for another. In an Individualist culture, you learned to grow into your own person, shaping your life to fit into your own mold rather than that of others. Parents in individualist cultures have a tendency to be more definitive; they promote advanced freedom, independence, investigation of the earth, and put less accentuation on dutifulness and friendliness, as opposed to restricting yourself to the qualifications or stipulations of a group. They want you to figure out how to see yourself as your own particular being. They want to mentality drive you to see your own novel advantages and attributes. Things like going to college, drawing, and painting are diversions that could assume an enormous part of someone's life, yet the group is not needed to drive these interests onto a person. In addition, being your own individual gives you responsibility for your activities. Furthermore, when you need to achieve objectives, you need to put in the diligent work as opposed to anticipating that others will do work for you. An example of individualism would Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Individuality In Research Paper Individuality Individuality is defined as "the particular character, or aggregate of qualities, that distinguishes one person or thing from others; sole and personal nature" (Dictionary.com), and is a common theme throughout literature that celebrates a person's character and personality. This theme can be found in a multitude of literature sources, some including: The Giver by Lois Lowry, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Kurt Vonnegut,Hairspray directed by John Waters, Dancing With Style directed by Xander de Boer, and The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. Each piece of literature has its own uniqueness. For example, in The Giver and Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, the setting is in a dystopian world, warning society the dangers of...show more content... As in The Giver, Jonas leaves his world of Sameness to live a life that is full of love and also pain. He chooses this because his family lives the same life as everyone in his community, with no emotion and connectivity with anyone. Jonas makes this extremely difficult decision to pursue a life with love, passion, and pain. He is courageous enough to accept and experience the feelings his community has deemed unnecessary, and would agree with E.E. Cummings in that "It takes courage to grow up and become who you really Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Conformity vs. Individuality Essay "People don't talk about anything...and nobody says anything different from anyone else" This quote, from Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, demonstrates how this fictional society had no individuality, yet they expressed no disprovement of the conformity. To be so simple minded as this civilization was would have eventually lead to self–destruction. To support my theory, recall in the novel when the old lady chose to commit suicide because she did not have freedom. She felt that even though she was "free" she was "enslaved" by the enforcement of limited knowledge. <br> <br>Without individuality in today's society, the world would be filled with a population of large amounts of followers as opposed to leaders. Do you know where and what this...show more content... <br> <br>"You like bowling, don't you, Montag? <br>"Bowling, yes." <br>"And golf?" <br>"Golf is a fine game." As you may have noticed, this society dared not to have different opinions or to disagree. Everyone was predictable and identical, wouldn't that be a "perfect society?" No one disagreeing, no disputes, no wars? I beg to differ because disagreeing and disputing create change. They also allow us to state our opinions as well as to listen to others opinions. After allowing other opinions to be broadcasted, you might identify an error in your opinion which could change your whole outlook on something. Widening your horizons and taking a dip in the sea of "why's" should be an experience we all have the chance in experimenting with. <br><br>"Not everyone born free and equal...but everyone made equal. Each man the image of each other." Just imagine sitting in a classroom where everyone acted, talked, and looked the same way. They always agreed and never opposed. Instead of having that individuality and being at one with yourself, and one in the eye's of others, you'd be accounted as a whole. Our country today is not only a "melting pot" of cultures and races, but one of different ideas and knowledge waiting to be served, but if the people are not allowed to eat, then the knowledge is never Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay on Individualism Individualism 1) An individualist is considered to be someone with personality and character, someone who is not easily intimidated by social pressure or customs, someone with a personal opinion and a singular view of the world. Because modern society finds it important that people think independently, decide autonomously and take personal initiatives, the concept of individualism has acquired a positive connotation. However, individualism is also linked with the tendency to withdraw from social life and turn in towards oneself. 2) Which drives people to withdraw into a small, enclosed world consisting of their family and a few select friends, leaving the rest of society to its own devices. 3) Courageous individualism refers to...show more content... 9)"Habits of the Heart holds up a mirror to American values, makes us examine ourselves, and dares us to question where our society is going. [It] will make you question your own habits and look into your own heart. Not many books possess that ability." 10) This book is about the inevitable conflict between American Individualism and the fact that humans are by nature social. We hunger for relationship yet we want it only on our terms. Bellah and his team of reseachers take on the enormous task of interviewing people from all over the country and the results of these interviews are presented factually and then analyzed. Whether one agrees with the book's conclusions or not, the interviewees speak for themselves, and they speak for a majority of Americans today who are often torn by conflicting authoritative messages and motives from without and within. This book is a marvelous and sometimes unsettling mirror into contemporary American society. 11) Which examined America's conflict between individualism and social commitment) with one that focuses on institutions. After acknowledging that we all live in and through both private and public institutions (families, schools, corporations, the nation, etc.), Bellah and his colleagues argue that we as an American Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. My Individuality Research Paper I have never experienced an intense passion to look, act, or think like someone. I believe that in a mundane world where as humans our genetic makeup aligns 99% with one another, we should strive to preserve any individuality we possess. As the Renaissance taught us, the idea of individuality creates a vibrant human society where despite being similar we possess certain traits that make us unique in our own way. Personally, I believe my individuality lies in my ability to recognize patterns and think in a logical fashion. I would never consider to alter myself to think, act, or look like someone else. That idea completely frightens me, to only imagine myself with a similar thought process to Sarah Palin or Creationists sends a shiver down my back! The...show more content... The act of forcefully altering ourselves can result in disastrous effects. Langston Hughes, for example, experienced emotional devastation by pretending as if he experienced a religious epiphany. What a pity! I met people who have forcefully altered themselves to experience certain benefits that others have. For example, certain students mimic the actions of other students in hopes that they will earn higher grades. The idea of looking up to someone can be beneficial no doubt. To lose your own sense of individuality in that ambition however, defines a bargain I would never desire. Although I look up to certain people myself, for example the astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, I would not desire his mindset. Instead, I would attempt to rise to a position with similar caliber based upon my own capabilities and my own mindset. I think that Tyson became a leading astrophysicist based upon his own mindset and so must I, with my own mindset. Many of the great inventions and discoveries of our time took place due to a differing mindset that challenged the norms of the day, likewise only the same can occur in the future and we should cherish our differences for reasons such Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Essay On Individuality Vs Conformity In the article title "Individuality vs. Conformity: The Healthy Middle?" by an anonymous high school student it says that there are only two thing that a typical high school student wants to typically achieve in their short high school life (par. 1). One of these things is to fit in (par. 2). The second one is to be different (par. 3). How could you do this?. You could choose to be individual or just conform. However I really maintain the idea that what we should really do it's to stay in the middle so we won't forget who we really are and still be liked by different groups of people. I've always believed that being individual was good. But other people prefer to believe that conformity is better. Although I should know better by now, I cannot help thinking that sometimes people do need to get involve with other people. Furthermore, I believe that people should just try to be in the middle, so that they would be able to make their own choices...show more content... It may be impossible because science says the we were born to conform but we could still try to take our own decisions and be a little individual and also be able to participate in groups in other words conform sometimes, to stay in the middle because if we only conform we might not like some decisions other people take for us, and if we are only individuals we also might feel lonely and people will think you are weird. For this reason I believe that we should stay in the middle. `In the article "Which one? Individuality vs conformity..." by Pinn he says that he was surprised that most of the people who live in the society would actually go with "conformity". I believe this is because they think that society is not going to talk, involve, or talk to them if they are individual but as I said before, if you fully conform you are not going to to be able to take your own decisions. That is why I maintain my claim the we should be in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Individuality Vs Conformity Mass public schooling has created a divide amongst the foundation of whether to prioritize individuality or conformity. If we as a society choose to base schooling off of the guidelines of conformity, the individuality in each and every student will soon be lost due to being forced to comply to the school system, therefore hindering student's sense of individuality. Prioritizing individuality in the schools allows students to be free of constraints, and to increase their want to learn through being able to differentiate and personalize their schedules. An education system based off of forcing individual and different students to all follow the exact same course standard should be outlawed due to this being an outdated guideline of teaching. • 10. Persuasive Essay On Individuality Have you ever seen vipers just constrict around their prey, taking away their last hope and breathe? Time and time again the world wants everyone to be seen individuality and yet at the same time they want to see everyone in perfect order. Mankind is a different kind of confusion, they want everyone to be like themselves and yet at the same they want us to look just the same. Always bland and tasteless, nothing to show color, nothing to show the beauty that we show when we are ourselves. Uniforms just another viper that constrict our great individuality, our emotions, our wanting to be seen not just some other person. Emotions can be shown, and mostly our clothing shows that we want to be seen as flashy, dark, or even hopeful. Although when uniforms come into the equation what does it give us? Nothing. No showing into ones emotion, no show of how that person is feeling. Although yes their face can show a few words is it really enough? • 11. What Are Emerson's Views On Individualism Emerson begins his major work on individualism by declaring the importance of thinking for oneself instead of humbly acquiring someone else's belief. Emerson says, "To believe that what is true in your private heart is true for all men – that is genius". The one who scorns personal intuition and, instead, chooses to admit others' opinions lacks the inventive power necessary for strong, fearless individualism. Emerson says, "Trust thyself," a saying that ties along this initial section of the essay. This simply resembles to believe others' judgments is poor–spirited, with no inspiration or hope. An individual with dignity, exhibits originality and is childish unspoiled by egoistic desires but mature. Emerson currently focuses his attention...show more content... Religion's main drawback is its worry of individual creativeness. Emerson's criticism of society, and particularly its misguided notion of progress, differs from his earlier comments on the topic. He debates that society does not essentially improve from material changes, as an example, advances in technology lead to the loss of some sorts of wisdom: The one that incorporates a watch loses the flexibility to inform time by the sun's position in the sky. Thesis: Are "self–reliance" and "being independent" two sides of the same coin? This question is more like a debatable topic where different individual have their own perspectives and views. The first objective mentioned above deals with self–reliance and the second mentioned below matches the contradictions of independence together with self–reliance. There is a clear space of overlapping however "independence" is regarding decision–making within the condition you are in, whereas "self–reliance" concerns management of the resources necessary to support significant independence. Over the past few years self–reliance has decreased remarkably throughout the world with the increase in dependencies of individuals on others and entities. Individuals are getting more and more cross–dependant and reliable on support either in materialistic or moralistic means. Finally to be self–reliant one need to do things metaphorically and more figuratively that is in one's destiny Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 13. Individualism And Its Impact On Society Many people across the world have their own definition and beliefs of the word individualism. There is nothing selfish to be able to express ones personality and internal emotions. Being an individual alone could value a person's overall true character. The claim presented would be opposed by many because people like to feel independent and self–reliant. Individualism in today's society lets people express themselves, and helps create something small into something big. For a long time now individualism has existed since the founding of our country. This could also be supported by this quote, "And while the law [of competition] may be hard for the individual, it is best for the race, because it ensures the survival of the fittest in every department." (Carnegie). Individuality was greatly used when defending the right for equality in between the races. Society today has progressed over the centuries due to the bravery of several individualists. People pride themselves in their individuality to make the world better, memorable and unforgettable. Consequently, individualism is the key to making the society better and turn something that could benefit towards others. Many believe that people who think about themselves are self–centered and do not care about the people around them. That is where their wrong. Individualism is not just about one certain person; it is about the whole world. Stated by President Woodrow Wilson, "America is not anything if it consists of each of us. It is something only if it consists of all of us." (Wilson). This proclamation overall shows how everyone is their own individual self but as a nation we all stand together. People are individuals. Some people think that "being yourself" is a bad excuse to be selfish and to not conform to society. Personally I think that establishing your individuality is important to do because people need to express who they are and not try to be like each other. For example, I rap and in order to gain fans I try to distinguish myself from other rappers on Soundcloud because if not, no one will want to make music with me which will make it even harder to become known. Growing up as a kid I didn't exactly fit in with all the other popular kids. As i got older it meant more to me to be who I am. Come to find out i fit in more if i was just myself. I realized that I'm not that different from other people because some people are just as weird as me. That's when I realized individuality is something to not be ashamed of. No two people are exactly alike and I feel that it's a part of life to find that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Essay On Individuality In The Giver "Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of progress"– John F. Kennedy. Pacific Trails planning committee is debating whether to create a utopian society based on conformity or individuality and they want to be sure to decide the right choice for an ideal community. Individuality is the better choice because there's a greater life experience and there are more contributions to society. In a society built on individualism, there is a more vivid life experience as shown in The Giver by Lois Lowry. "[Jonas] He found he was angry now: irrationally angry at his group mates that they were satisfied with their lives which had none of the vibrance his own was taking in"(Lowry #99). Jonas, being the new Receiver, has been given memories of things he has never experienced first hand, such as color and weather, and it made him happy. In any society, the contentedness of citizen is what at the end of the day keeps it together as seen in Jonas's own community. • 16. The Importance Of Individuality Individuality Individuality is when you are different from others around you. Many people forget to be themselves and try to be like everyone else. High school students and celebrities forget to be themselves. Everyone tries so hard to fit in with those who surround them that they forget that being original isn't a bad thing. First, many kids in high school act opposite of what they really are. Teenagers just want to fit in in high school, no one wants to be bullied. Kids are put into "categories" during their high school years and it is very rare for a kid to not be in a category. Every school has the athletes, "nerds", jerks, and the ones who try to fit in. if you are put in the group of the jerks, then you are more than likely going to be in that group for years. Everyone wants to fit in so bad, but no one is going to remember where you stood in high school 20 years after you graduate unless you are rude to everyone to be "cool". Many people want to be "popular" and if they aren't they don't think they are good enough. High school causes people to change who they are to fit in. Girls have the exact same hair. Boys act the same. Everyone wants to be alike so no one really stands out, and that's not always a good thing. Next, in Hollywood, celebrities are all the same. Every actor acts alike and puts on a fake face for the cameras. If every actor/actress are just alike then Hollywood would quit hiring people because everyone is the same. If you are yourself and are different from everyone else in Hollywood (and life) then you stand out to people more and can make a career from it. People might think you're hilarious, nice, and an all around wonderful person. However, people act how they want others to see them, like in interviews. Anyone can put on a good face and be as nice as can be for a few seconds, minutes, or even hours, but that is just to be liked and to fit in. If they lie about anything, big or small, and then the truth comes out no one will believe what they say again. Lying only makes them untrustworthy. Lastly, just be yourself. If you lie you can hurt others and hurting others can come back to hurt you. Don't be untrustworthy just to fit in for a few years because it will make you look bad. • 17. Individuality What makes a person their own individual is a question that can be deeply contemplated. The reached conclusion is generally a combination of the person's experiences, thoughts, feelings, and goals. Even though this may seem like a simple answer to this inquiry the solution to a person's individuality is much more complicated. When asked to attempt to explain who I am on a piece of paper it required some inward thought. • 18. Individualism In Modern Society In modern culture, societal views on individuality are vastly effecting the new generation of people. Individualism, emphasizes the ability for one's morals to be independent from society. Many who express individuals tend to dismiss the status–quo, as they recognize their self worth and the capability to realize it is acceptable to be different. • 19. Maintaining Individuality There are many different ways to respond to conflict. Some of the responses include having a good attitude, keeping a stable frame of mind, avoidance, and maintaining individuality. Groups of individuals have used these different approaches with varying degrees of success. One of the best ways to respond to conflict is maintaining individuality, or maintaining individuality as a group of people that share a common culture or beliefs. As shown in many different sources, maintaining individuality as an individual or a group can greatly affect the outcome of a situation. The Nazi flag and a picture of Hitler was put up in every classroom and every day started with a solute to their leader Hitler (Bartoletti 399). Hitler forced the children of Germany to follow him and his teachings. Another example of this is when the Nazis implemented a boycott of Jewish Businesses and employees. An article describes " The boycott of April 1, 1933, and the ensuing wave of racial legislation aimed at Jewish employees in the public services and the various professions" ( Shoah 5). By implementing this boycott and not allowing the Jewish people to work the Nazi'se were supressing the Jews' individuality. The final example of suppression of individuality occurred when the Japanese–Americans were placed in camps out in the middle of the desert. A letter from one of the Japanese Americans states "The nearest town, Parker, Arizona, was sixteen miles away and it had just one telephone! If one were driving toward California, the first service station would be eighty miles away" (Oppenheim). This was done to isolate the Japanese Americans from American society because of the recent Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
