The Impact Of Community Service On The Community
Community service is simply defined as non–paid work done by an individual, group, or organization that benefits the community. While community
service is commonly interchanged with volunteerism, these two terms should not be interchanged with each other since the former could be a
mandatory task or requirement in certain situations. These situations include requirements for being granted citizenship to a country, class projects or
requirements, and it can also serve as a corrective sanction for criminal charges.
Before we discuss the value of community service and its impacts on the individual, let us first look into the relationship of the individual and to the
society. With man being a social being, one can never separate himself not only from his immediatecommunity but to the larger society as well. Since
time immemorial, man has relied on the various mechanisms of community in order to address his needs for survival. We can observe man's reliance
on the community even dating back to the prehistoric era. During this time, the primitive communal mode of production was dominant among
communities, where everyone had a part to play in feeding and taking care of the community members. But this was not only the duties of the
community members. While survival was the primary interest during the primitive communal stage of society, by staying and living within a
community, mean learned to develop values, culture, and of course a set of rules to govern the community and maintain

Essay Community Service Project Reflection
The thought of community service was a bore to me before I began my volunteer work. I dreaded starting my community service although I knew I
had to do it. Where I earned my hours did not even matter to me. I just wanted to get it over with. To my surprise it was not what I expected.
Community service was not a painful experience; it was a very enjoyable and beneficial experience.
I performed my community service with Habitat for Humanity. The non‐profit organization chooses the applicant that purchases the house and
Habitat only charges them the cost of the materials. Almost every worker is a volunteer so Habitat for Humanity does not have to pay a high amount of
wages. I felt good about myself being one of those volunteers. The future...show more content...
We shared many laughs and stories while we worked. It was satisfying to help improve these people's lives.
I took pleasure in how much I learned at Habitat for Humanity. We were doing construction so many tools were involved. On my first day I was
unaware of the names of most tools. Learning the names and functions of each tool was exciting. Being a male, I felt more confident knowing these
things. Construction involves math and clever thinking as well. On my first day I just watched as the processes took place. Eventually, I was helping
make the decisions. I even helped a volunteer build a fence and make precise measurements. The education about construction will benefit me for the
rest of my life.
The amount of respect I earned was an incomparable benefit that I received from community service. Oil companies volunteered their employees on
Saturdays and I spoke with all of them. They recognized my enrollment and scholarship achievements. Some of them see me and recognize me
around town and they ask about how my goals are going. I met people who made a huge positive impact on my life. Employees without a college
education worked full time at Habitat for Humanity, and I realized what I do not want to do with my life. During lunch breaks I spoke with the
supervisor, Alynda Best, and she explained to me the significance of hard work in college. Most importantly, I met the lady who made this opportunity
possible for me and she

Personal Statements For Community Service
I have participated in many community service activities during my four years of high school that demonstrates my commitment to service to others,
but three of them especially stand out. The first activity was through Project Angel, which collects food donations from Avon schools and hands them
out to families during the holiday season. I have been involved with Project Angel both in picking up food donations at the schools and delivering the
food to the families around the community. Participating in this organization has been a very eye–opening experience because it has shown me that
there are people in our community that are struggling. This experience has fueled my determination to better the world around me and provide a

My Passion For Service And Community
I was raised up believing in the importance of service and community as I saw my family members and neighbors selflessly help and be in
community with people in need. It is therefore no surprise that I discovered my passion for service and volunteerism while still young. In my
hometown Nairobi, Kenya, I did community service through various ways, including my involvement in the charity walk for Street Children and
Orphans in Kenya in 2003 and the 2007 Brookside Freedom from Hunger Campaign. I participated in the charity walk for these causes and helped
raise money to support street children, orphans, ending hunger, and was recognized as one of the top three people to raise the most funds. In high
school, I volunteered at the St. Nicholas Children's home in Kenya, where I served, played, and was in solidarity with the children. In 2013, I
earned the President's Bronze Standard award given to me by Honorable Mwai Kibaki, the third president of Kenya for being a young person
equipped with positive life skills and a change maker in my community, country, and globally. Understanding where I have come from and how blessed
I have been to have an opportunity to attend college is what drives me to excel academically. It is also what makes me feel I must give back. While at
Xavier, I continued my passion for service by gaining leadership positions in various organizations, including the Students Government Association;
African Students' Association; Black Students' Association, and

Reflective Essay On Community Service
Community service is very important. Not only is it a that is present to everyone, it is also present personally to you. I had not noticed this until an
event so horrendous had to occur. When I was only in fourth grade, Hurricane Sandy swept across the East coast and truly opened my eyes. My
whole house and belongings were destroyed, and I had to look at others for help. In this time of need, it truly shocked me by how much people were
willing to help you and work with you to get you through these frightening times. Maria Gatta, on the same topic, always valued the topic of
community service. She dedicated herself to always try and help others. And, I as came to realize, the help of others truly does make huge differences

Though, I also know what the feeling is to have others there for you, giving the support and objects you need to start back up. I know what the feeling
is to have those people––some you don't even know––there for you to help you through the process. Community service is such a precious thing that
helps so much. Some people––some like me as I was younger––don't realize how important it truly is and how much it can truly help others. Along
with my personal story, Maria Gatta was one of those people who were the complete opposite of me before the hurricane. She valued community
service and helping others. Mrs. Gatta was one of the people that realized even the littlest things could help in their own way. I mean, I never despised
the topic of helping others through community service, it's just that I didn't yet see the importance. She spent her whole life dedicated to try and please
others through all her help including the work of community service; to be able to help other people was one thing she truly valued. Maria Gatta was
constantly thinking about how she could always help others––never herself. She had understood the true importance of community service and how
much it can really make a huge impact on others. The time when people need all this help the most is when they are struggling, and Mrs. Gatta really
knew the significance of giving those people the support they needed in those times. She had such a big heart to actually

Essay On Importance Of Community Service
Importance of Community Service
Community service is an important component of a business's social responsibility. Everyone belongs to a community, and it is our moral obligation to
help those who cannot take care of themselves. Providing these citizens with food, medical assistance, clothing, and shelter helps keep the community
safe and healthy. In addition, people will be less likely to commit crimes in order to gain basic necessities if they are offered help instead. By giving
back to the communities they are located in, businesses can improve their image and gain the respect of local citizens. Therefore, community service
can be a very profitable business venture. People can develop several important business skills through community service, such as teamwork,
leadership, communication, and problem solving. Community service can also be an excellent way for individuals to network with others and discover
new business opportunities.

Community Service is a Way of Giving Back Essay
Many think that community service is just something you are forced to do for school. To me, community service is a way of giving back. I like
making people feel as though they matter, and it gives me a warm feeling at the end of the day because I feel I have made a difference. I grow as a
person each time I do community service. Some people do community service because they have to, but I do it because I want to. I have volunteered
about 52 hours of community service in the READ program at a local elementary school on east 3rd street and ave S.
Two days a week, after school I would take the B82 and take it down to east 3rd street and walk to the school. I would wait about 10 min before the
children would come into the classroom. I...show more content...
I would have this little book where in the beginning I would ask the child to read a few words and sounds and correct him if I have to. After that,
we would start to read the story. After we finished the story I would record it on a record sheet and the kid would put a number on a cookie chart,
when we would get up to number one hundred, everyone would have a cookie party.
Each session of the books was in different colors. There were about 24 books in each session. When the kid finished reading the whole session, the
teacher would come by and the child takes a test by reading all the sentences that the teacher gave him and if he does it in 2 or fewer mistakes then
he can go on to the next color set, which is a little harder then the last one. It was very fun working with the kids and I enjoyed every moment I spent
with them. At first I was a little bit shy but it was a matter of time before I become a good tutor and a good friend to every one around me including
the kids, other tutors and the teacher.
My work definitely impacted the society and it benefited. I was one of the many that gave our free time to teach first graders that were reading
behind the other kids in their grade. I did a very good job to teach the kid everything I know and I'm sure I made them a better reader. After every
day, each kid was able to go home to their families and tell them how much better they became at reading. Their families where proud of their

Persuasive Essay About Community Service
As an 18–year–old tennager, I was forced by my parents to participate a summer volunteer program in my freshman year. Even though I felt that I
was a victim of "tyranny" in the beginning, I realized that I actually enjoyed the process of helping people in the middle of the program. Now, I
participate that program every year as an active member, and I have gained the personal enrichment that I am unable to learn from other sources such
as math club or SAT preparatory class. There is no doubt that community service can bring essential benefits in helping students develop theirmoral
value and future interest, and it should be mandatory because some students attempt to utilize community service as a tool for their own profit without
the school supervision. Volunteerismenables students to gain the moral lesson that is vital to their life and develop their future interest. According to
source 2, "community service teaches us through experience – about the relationship between empathy and responsibility, about what it takes to be part
of a community, in essence, about human being". While students are helping their community, they learn the crucial moral lessons in the most direct
and impressive way. Through an actual experience of volunteering, students are reminded that it is their responsibility to serve for their community
because they are a part of it. Helping without any feedback allows them to realize the power of empathy, the essential value that makes the society a

Community Service Persuasive Speech
General Purpose: To persuade the audience that community service should be implemented into high school requirements.
INTRODUCTION
Attention Gainer: According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, San Diego's homeless population is the fourth largest in the
United States (Schroeder, 2015).
Reason to Listen: As you will soon see, there are easy steps that we can all take to help this growing problem in our community.
Speaker Credibility (right to inform): I was in an organization called National Charity League which allowed me to volunteer around my community
throughout high school and I have also researched about how beneficial community service can be.
Thesis statement: To persuade the audience that there should be a required amount of hours that a student needs to volunteer before they can graduate
high school.
Preview your Main Points: Many students do not volunteer because it is not a requirement and therefore are uneducated about the benefits of
volunteering. Creating a mandatory amount of hours a student needs to complete will educate students about the benefits of volunteering as well as
benefit their communities.
II. BODY
Main Point # 1 (Problems/Harms) (this should be a full sentence) Many students are not motivated to volunteer and therefore in times of need like right
now, do not know how to help.
Information (sub–point): Volunteering is becoming less common and therefore our communities are not receiving as much support.
In Srebro's article, she states that "volunteer rates have been steadily declining for over a decade" (Srebro, 2016).
Information (sub–point): Because teens are not required to perform community service, many do not get into the habit of volunteering so in effect are
less likely to volunteer in the future.
"Fifty–four percent of adolescents who performed volunteer service in high school volunteered again 2 years later" (Planty & Regnier, 2003).
Information (sub–point): With all the natural disasters occurring across the county whether it be hurricanes or fires. We need volunteers and donations
now more than ever.
TRANSITION STATEMENT: Volunteering is becoming less popular because many people never volunteered when they were young so they did not get

Mandatory Community Service For Seniors
Mandatory Community Service for Seniors
When applying for a position at a job, managers always check to see how much experience you have in order to check if you are qualified. When
filling out a college application there are always questions that ask to write down any extra curricular activities you participated in or any clubs
/service work you did and for how long. It is important to be a part of the community and to be dedicated to one or two locations for a certain amount
of time to show commitment and effort. A student that has been a part of an organization for about three months and has not missed will be prefered at
a college than a student that goes five times a month. Community service does not only help build relationships but allows students to spend their time
learning new skills and it will benefit them in the future. Community service for high school seniors should be mandatory because it will teach the
students how to be responsible, allow them to explore in depth something related to their career and improve their communication skills.
Many high schools around the country have made community service hours mandatory in order for the seniors to graduate. Not everyone agrees that
this should be a requirement because seniors already have enough on their plate. When seniors are about to graduate, it does not matter how many
tasks they have to complete as a requirement if they do not feel like doing it and they have no motivation they will not complete

My Involvement On The Community Service Essay
Activism Project To discuss my involvement in the various communities, I will start off by explaining how my involvement impacted me innumerable
ways. Furthermore, the community service that I was involved in deals with the social problem of poverty and class inequality. This issue is something
that a vast majority of Americans is always facing all the time. Correspondingly, this issue often correlates with constant discrimination that is
happening towards the minorities especially African Americans and Hispanics. That is the reason why activist constantly tries to deal with this issue by
conveying their message through various methods. The organization that I was involved in is the Atlanta Community Food Bank. This organization,
along with other organization to distribute millions of foods across to metro Atlanta and north Georgia. The Atlanta Community Food Bank also
delivers several foods and other critical information that contains various resources to help people who are low–income earners. For example, "the
agencies that receive the stuff is constantly being provided by the Atlanta Community Food Bank is food pantries, community kitchen, childcare
centers, and senior citizens" (Atlanta Community Food Bank). These are the agency that the Atlanta Community Food Bank most commonly provides.
However, that is not the only thing that the Atlanta Community Food Bank does; this organization also tries to educate and engage with people who

For my community service project I did a large variety of projects. I completed a total amount of seventy–one hours, which includes: eleven hours of in
school hours, and sixty hours of out of school service. The groups I worked with include: The Immaculate Conception School, The Merimack Heights
Academy, and the Mad Science program. Overall I had a great time and a wonderful experience serving the community. For the Immaculate Conception
School I did many events. First for the I.C.S I helped to set up with two of the Junior High Socials and ran one of the games at the Halloween party.
Through working with our school I learned valuable skills of teamwork and leadership by working with others and being a role model. I learned how to

I will never forget this experience and I hope that I am invited back next year to help coach my players. The next community service project I did was
to help renovate The Merrimack Heights Academy. We worked for about four hours at the school painting rooms, fences, and other buildings.
Although we didn't finish the project I feel a sense of satisfaction that I helped to create a school for special needs children. I also feel that It was a
lot of fun to work with all of my classmates outside of school and to see everybody working so hard. The last thing I am going to talk about is my
time as a mad scientist assistant job for the journey program. I did this awesome job for about five hours over a period of five weeks. This was
really one of the most fun things to do because I have a deep love for science and passing that love on to younger bright eyed students is wonderful. I
got quite the experience. After doing this project I can see why teachers get frustrated with us students and all the talking. I realized that the less
talking we do the more we get accomplished and the more fun we end up having. I would defiantly do this service again and I recommend it to all
science loving students. When I first began this project I was daunted by the amount of hours I would have to complete, but accepted the challenge

Narrative Essay Many teens consider community service a chore to complete in order to graduate or something to include on a college application.
Yes, I was one of those teens in my high school years, but because I didn't really know what community service was really about, and I hadn't
experienced it until my history class. With this opportunity I was able to experience this wonderful community service taught me more than what I

I walked there with three girls named Alicia, Veronica and Karla. They showed me where their beds where and gave me a whole tour around the
institution. I was impressed with all the beds they had, it was a huge wide room with many vertically arranged beds for each and every one of
them. I started on cleaning and washing all the bed quilts, and all the girls were willing to help within everything, I didn't feel it was a job. They all
seemed so cheerful and happy because somebody came to help them. Though, I was the one who got out learning things I hardly knew about. They all
looked so mature to me, but I only could see a little girl from the outside.
Then, I saw from across the room a very shy and quite little girl, she barely talked and interacted with the others. So, I went up to her, and asked
her name. "My name is Sofia," she said with tears in her eyes, "What's wrong?", I asked. The other girls told me she had just arrived to the
orphanage a few days ago. So, I grabbed her hand and went to the kitchen to give her a sandwich. She was amazed the whole sandwich was just for
her, and she couldn't stop thanking me. This shocked me a lot because there are many children out there that don't have a place to stay or anything to
eat, while we who have the privilege to have a place to call home, food always on the table, and most importantly a family, we take all that and
everybody for granted. We should place more value on all those

Persuasive Essay On Community Service
Every Sunday, I have the opportunity to help as a child care worker in my church's nursery; and every week, after spending just one hour watching
over the kids so that their parents can go to service and not have to worry about their children, I remember exactly why I spend my free time helping
others. The term "Noblesse Oblige" is why I choose to be involved in multiple childcare opportunities and community service clubs. I believe it is my
job to make sure those who are less fortunate, or in need of aid, get the help they require and deserve. I take part in different aspects of community
service because it helps better my community and makes me a stronger leader.
For the past three years at Liberty High School, I have been a member of the Key Club community service organization. As a member of this club, I
am able to help with different jobs around the community that help the people in our town specifically. For example, every first Wednesday of the
month I go and help with a project called Snack Pack. During this time, about fifteen other kids and I prepare three weeks worth of food for
seventeen high schoolers in our school district. These are kids that do not have enough money at home to always have food on their table. Snack
Pack plays an important role in their lives because without it, they would not always eat. These kids deserve the chance to live their life and go to
school without having to worry about whether or not the will eat dinner that night. That is why I value my role in this club so much, because I
know what we do makes a difference. When the kids collect their food, they are able to relax a little more knowing that their family will be able to
eat. Another aspect of Key Club that I take part in is Fairy Tale Forest, held at Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary. Every year, the weekend
before Halloween, I volunteer, with a handful of others from the club, to go and work at the children's fairy tale nature walk. The past two years I
have been a runner. This means I do the odd little jobs, like run food and drinks around to the different characters that are working in the trail, that
would otherwise be forgotten or not done at all. Although this is a small role, it is what helps make

Why I Need Community Service
Imagine struggling to afford the 'mandatory' three meals you're supposed to consume a day. It would be hard and stressful right? I met over one
hundred hungry people that have to feel this emotion every day of their life, struggling to provide enough food to make a meal, fulfill their hunger, and
stay healthy. On October 17th my senior year of high school I volunteered at a place called "Broad Street Ministry" a Christian based community
church. They have many community service opportunities that you can get involved with. I helped with feeding the homeless or those who cannot
afford to eat. A teacher at my high school introduced me to this opportunity and I took away a lot of memories I will cherish with this event.
On October 17th myself and five other students loaded a van with our health teacher and headed off to Philadelphia. Personally, I volunteered with
this event just for community service hours at first but after I left the event I walked away with more than just some hours that I could write on
paper, I walked away with life lessons and a heavy heart. We got off the bus at our destination around 9:00 AM to help set up the equipment we
were using for the day. As we set everything up I thought that we overdid it because we many tables pushed together forming a long line each table
full of food followed by coolers of soda and water. After we got done setting up we had a brief meeting with a head leader of the Broad Street
Ministry simply thanking us and giving us a run down of the day. I didn't think the event would last too long and no way there would be that many
people coming to get food. I put on the mandatory clothing items we had to wear and got in my place to help out. Noon is when everything started
and people started forming a line with plates in hand. More and more people got in the line and eventually we opened everything up to start
serving people. By the time we started serving there had to be at least 100 people in line, I have only ever saw this happen on TV or in magazines,
never personally. There was such a diverse group of people that came to this event. I noticed the way each persons face lit up when they filled their
plate with what they were served, even if they did

What Does Community Service Mean To Me Essay
What does community service means to me? Well, to me community service mean helping your community become a better place. When you do
things for your neighborhood, it makes you feel like a better person. There are all sorts of activities you can do in your community. You can work
with children at school, work with the elderly, or help people that are less fortunate and make their day very special. Community Service is very
important because it gives you a chance to bond with the people in your neighborhood. It will also give you a chance to give back to your
community , you'll learn a lot from your experience, and you'll make a difference in someone's life. I recommend a lot of people to go out and make a

"Volunteers are not paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless."– Sherry Anderson (Volunteering Quotes: Finest Quotes). On
average, when people think about community service, they assume that volunteering is just 'hours we need to be able to graduate' and that is it.
Community service is more than just hours; community service is based on the acts performed by someone with the purpose of helping or bringing
benefits to his or her community. People frequently compare community service as a punishment since it is often offered to small–time offenders as an
alternative to fines or jail time. However, community service is the vital force to many communities since they depend on the service made by the

Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend through the eyes of government and social agencies
(Everything you ever wanted to know about volunteering). Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life, since
teenagers are the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering has been such an important matter, that schools in many
countries around the world established that 12th grade students will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the frequent
answers all the schools are getting are "Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to do!" What people are forgetting is that each one of them is
part of a community, a community that is not perfect and that the government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because obviously the
government needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are not only helping others, they are also helping themselves
(Volunteering). Volunteering is not a new subject now, but people did not perceive it before because as time goes by, volunteering is becoming more
and more popular since each year more people volunteer. Volunteering began around the early 19th century since America was experimenting with the
Great Awakening. The Great Awakening was a period in which the importance of the church was slowly dying and instead the

Volunteering Back To The Community
It was a bright, sunny morning, the weather was nice, and the sky was beautiful, yet I was stuck volunteering for my teacher. He holds a river clean–up
monthly and for some reason, I decided to wake up early to go out and help him clean the river. Honestly, I had no reason to be there but since a
couple of my friends were going, I decided to go and help out also. Our local river was gross and riddled with the homeless, but my teacher's goal
was to clean up the area to help the environment and bring something beautiful back to our community. When we started cleaning, there was trash
everywhere and the smell was so gross and pungent that it repulsed me. However, as time passed and trash was getting picked up, the area became
cleaner and soon it looked like an entirely new place....show more content...

The Impact Of Community Service On The Community

  • 1. The Impact Of Community Service On The Community Community service is simply defined as non–paid work done by an individual, group, or organization that benefits the community. While community service is commonly interchanged with volunteerism, these two terms should not be interchanged with each other since the former could be a mandatory task or requirement in certain situations. These situations include requirements for being granted citizenship to a country, class projects or requirements, and it can also serve as a corrective sanction for criminal charges. Before we discuss the value of community service and its impacts on the individual, let us first look into the relationship of the individual and to the society. With man being a social being, one can never separate himself not only from his immediatecommunity but to the larger society as well. Since time immemorial, man has relied on the various mechanisms of community in order to address his needs for survival. We can observe man's reliance on the community even dating back to the prehistoric era. During this time, the primitive communal mode of production was dominant among communities, where everyone had a part to play in feeding and taking care of the community members. But this was not only the duties of the community members. While survival was the primary interest during the primitive communal stage of society, by staying and living within a community, mean learned to develop values, culture, and of course a set of rules to govern the community and maintain Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay Community Service Project Reflection The thought of community service was a bore to me before I began my volunteer work. I dreaded starting my community service although I knew I had to do it. Where I earned my hours did not even matter to me. I just wanted to get it over with. To my surprise it was not what I expected. Community service was not a painful experience; it was a very enjoyable and beneficial experience. I performed my community service with Habitat for Humanity. The non‐profit organization chooses the applicant that purchases the house and Habitat only charges them the cost of the materials. Almost every worker is a volunteer so Habitat for Humanity does not have to pay a high amount of wages. I felt good about myself being one of those volunteers. The future...show more content... We shared many laughs and stories while we worked. It was satisfying to help improve these people's lives. I took pleasure in how much I learned at Habitat for Humanity. We were doing construction so many tools were involved. On my first day I was unaware of the names of most tools. Learning the names and functions of each tool was exciting. Being a male, I felt more confident knowing these things. Construction involves math and clever thinking as well. On my first day I just watched as the processes took place. Eventually, I was helping make the decisions. I even helped a volunteer build a fence and make precise measurements. The education about construction will benefit me for the rest of my life. The amount of respect I earned was an incomparable benefit that I received from community service. Oil companies volunteered their employees on Saturdays and I spoke with all of them. They recognized my enrollment and scholarship achievements. Some of them see me and recognize me around town and they ask about how my goals are going. I met people who made a huge positive impact on my life. Employees without a college education worked full time at Habitat for Humanity, and I realized what I do not want to do with my life. During lunch breaks I spoke with the supervisor, Alynda Best, and she explained to me the significance of hard work in college. Most importantly, I met the lady who made this opportunity possible for me and she Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Personal Statements For Community Service I have participated in many community service activities during my four years of high school that demonstrates my commitment to service to others, but three of them especially stand out. The first activity was through Project Angel, which collects food donations from Avon schools and hands them out to families during the holiday season. I have been involved with Project Angel both in picking up food donations at the schools and delivering the food to the families around the community. Participating in this organization has been a very eye–opening experience because it has shown me that there are people in our community that are struggling. This experience has fueled my determination to better the world around me and provide a helping hand Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Passion For Service And Community I was raised up believing in the importance of service and community as I saw my family members and neighbors selflessly help and be in community with people in need. It is therefore no surprise that I discovered my passion for service and volunteerism while still young. In my hometown Nairobi, Kenya, I did community service through various ways, including my involvement in the charity walk for Street Children and Orphans in Kenya in 2003 and the 2007 Brookside Freedom from Hunger Campaign. I participated in the charity walk for these causes and helped raise money to support street children, orphans, ending hunger, and was recognized as one of the top three people to raise the most funds. In high school, I volunteered at the St. Nicholas Children's home in Kenya, where I served, played, and was in solidarity with the children. In 2013, I earned the President's Bronze Standard award given to me by Honorable Mwai Kibaki, the third president of Kenya for being a young person equipped with positive life skills and a change maker in my community, country, and globally. Understanding where I have come from and how blessed I have been to have an opportunity to attend college is what drives me to excel academically. It is also what makes me feel I must give back. While at Xavier, I continued my passion for service by gaining leadership positions in various organizations, including the Students Government Association; African Students' Association; Black Students' Association, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Reflective Essay On Community Service Community service is very important. Not only is it a that is present to everyone, it is also present personally to you. I had not noticed this until an event so horrendous had to occur. When I was only in fourth grade, Hurricane Sandy swept across the East coast and truly opened my eyes. My whole house and belongings were destroyed, and I had to look at others for help. In this time of need, it truly shocked me by how much people were willing to help you and work with you to get you through these frightening times. Maria Gatta, on the same topic, always valued the topic of community service. She dedicated herself to always try and help others. And, I as came to realize, the help of others truly does make huge differences in everyone's...show more content... Though, I also know what the feeling is to have others there for you, giving the support and objects you need to start back up. I know what the feeling is to have those people––some you don't even know––there for you to help you through the process. Community service is such a precious thing that helps so much. Some people––some like me as I was younger––don't realize how important it truly is and how much it can truly help others. Along with my personal story, Maria Gatta was one of those people who were the complete opposite of me before the hurricane. She valued community service and helping others. Mrs. Gatta was one of the people that realized even the littlest things could help in their own way. I mean, I never despised the topic of helping others through community service, it's just that I didn't yet see the importance. She spent her whole life dedicated to try and please others through all her help including the work of community service; to be able to help other people was one thing she truly valued. Maria Gatta was constantly thinking about how she could always help others––never herself. She had understood the true importance of community service and how much it can really make a huge impact on others. The time when people need all this help the most is when they are struggling, and Mrs. Gatta really knew the significance of giving those people the support they needed in those times. She had such a big heart to actually Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay On Importance Of Community Service Importance of Community Service Community service is an important component of a business's social responsibility. Everyone belongs to a community, and it is our moral obligation to help those who cannot take care of themselves. Providing these citizens with food, medical assistance, clothing, and shelter helps keep the community safe and healthy. In addition, people will be less likely to commit crimes in order to gain basic necessities if they are offered help instead. By giving back to the communities they are located in, businesses can improve their image and gain the respect of local citizens. Therefore, community service can be a very profitable business venture. People can develop several important business skills through community service, such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem solving. Community service can also be an excellent way for individuals to network with others and discover new business opportunities. Organization Organization's Name The name of the organization I volunteered for was The Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum of South Carolina. Organization's Mission The organization's mission is "to help foster agricultural education and practices, and examine agriculture's impact on our state's economy and culture: past, present and future." The museum's indoor and outdoor educational areas display historic agricultural artifacts and practices along with current, sustainable agriculture in South Carolina.1 Organization's Constituency The Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Community Service is a Way of Giving Back Essay Many think that community service is just something you are forced to do for school. To me, community service is a way of giving back. I like making people feel as though they matter, and it gives me a warm feeling at the end of the day because I feel I have made a difference. I grow as a person each time I do community service. Some people do community service because they have to, but I do it because I want to. I have volunteered about 52 hours of community service in the READ program at a local elementary school on east 3rd street and ave S. Two days a week, after school I would take the B82 and take it down to east 3rd street and walk to the school. I would wait about 10 min before the children would come into the classroom. I...show more content... I would have this little book where in the beginning I would ask the child to read a few words and sounds and correct him if I have to. After that, we would start to read the story. After we finished the story I would record it on a record sheet and the kid would put a number on a cookie chart, when we would get up to number one hundred, everyone would have a cookie party. Each session of the books was in different colors. There were about 24 books in each session. When the kid finished reading the whole session, the teacher would come by and the child takes a test by reading all the sentences that the teacher gave him and if he does it in 2 or fewer mistakes then he can go on to the next color set, which is a little harder then the last one. It was very fun working with the kids and I enjoyed every moment I spent with them. At first I was a little bit shy but it was a matter of time before I become a good tutor and a good friend to every one around me including the kids, other tutors and the teacher. My work definitely impacted the society and it benefited. I was one of the many that gave our free time to teach first graders that were reading behind the other kids in their grade. I did a very good job to teach the kid everything I know and I'm sure I made them a better reader. After every day, each kid was able to go home to their families and tell them how much better they became at reading. Their families where proud of their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Persuasive Essay About Community Service As an 18–year–old tennager, I was forced by my parents to participate a summer volunteer program in my freshman year. Even though I felt that I was a victim of "tyranny" in the beginning, I realized that I actually enjoyed the process of helping people in the middle of the program. Now, I participate that program every year as an active member, and I have gained the personal enrichment that I am unable to learn from other sources such as math club or SAT preparatory class. There is no doubt that community service can bring essential benefits in helping students develop theirmoral value and future interest, and it should be mandatory because some students attempt to utilize community service as a tool for their own profit without the school supervision. Volunteerismenables students to gain the moral lesson that is vital to their life and develop their future interest. According to source 2, "community service teaches us through experience – about the relationship between empathy and responsibility, about what it takes to be part of a community, in essence, about human being". While students are helping their community, they learn the crucial moral lessons in the most direct and impressive way. Through an actual experience of volunteering, students are reminded that it is their responsibility to serve for their community because they are a part of it. Helping without any feedback allows them to realize the power of empathy, the essential value that makes the society a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Community Service Persuasive Speech General Purpose: To persuade the audience that community service should be implemented into high school requirements. INTRODUCTION Attention Gainer: According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, San Diego's homeless population is the fourth largest in the United States (Schroeder, 2015). Reason to Listen: As you will soon see, there are easy steps that we can all take to help this growing problem in our community. Speaker Credibility (right to inform): I was in an organization called National Charity League which allowed me to volunteer around my community throughout high school and I have also researched about how beneficial community service can be. Thesis statement: To persuade the audience that there should be a required amount of hours that a student needs to volunteer before they can graduate high school. Preview your Main Points: Many students do not volunteer because it is not a requirement and therefore are uneducated about the benefits of volunteering. Creating a mandatory amount of hours a student needs to complete will educate students about the benefits of volunteering as well as benefit their communities. II. BODY Main Point # 1 (Problems/Harms) (this should be a full sentence) Many students are not motivated to volunteer and therefore in times of need like right now, do not know how to help. Information (sub–point): Volunteering is becoming less common and therefore our communities are not receiving as much support. In Srebro's article, she states that "volunteer rates have been steadily declining for over a decade" (Srebro, 2016). Information (sub–point): Because teens are not required to perform community service, many do not get into the habit of volunteering so in effect are less likely to volunteer in the future. "Fifty–four percent of adolescents who performed volunteer service in high school volunteered again 2 years later" (Planty & Regnier, 2003). Information (sub–point): With all the natural disasters occurring across the county whether it be hurricanes or fires. We need volunteers and donations now more than ever. TRANSITION STATEMENT: Volunteering is becoming less popular because many people never volunteered when they were young so they did not get

  • 11. Mandatory Community Service For Seniors Mandatory Community Service for Seniors When applying for a position at a job, managers always check to see how much experience you have in order to check if you are qualified. When filling out a college application there are always questions that ask to write down any extra curricular activities you participated in or any clubs /service work you did and for how long. It is important to be a part of the community and to be dedicated to one or two locations for a certain amount of time to show commitment and effort. A student that has been a part of an organization for about three months and has not missed will be prefered at a college than a student that goes five times a month. Community service does not only help build relationships but allows students to spend their time learning new skills and it will benefit them in the future. Community service for high school seniors should be mandatory because it will teach the students how to be responsible, allow them to explore in depth something related to their career and improve their communication skills. Many high schools around the country have made community service hours mandatory in order for the seniors to graduate. Not everyone agrees that this should be a requirement because seniors already have enough on their plate. When seniors are about to graduate, it does not matter how many tasks they have to complete as a requirement if they do not feel like doing it and they have no motivation they will not complete Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. My Involvement On The Community Service Essay Activism Project To discuss my involvement in the various communities, I will start off by explaining how my involvement impacted me innumerable ways. Furthermore, the community service that I was involved in deals with the social problem of poverty and class inequality. This issue is something that a vast majority of Americans is always facing all the time. Correspondingly, this issue often correlates with constant discrimination that is happening towards the minorities especially African Americans and Hispanics. That is the reason why activist constantly tries to deal with this issue by conveying their message through various methods. The organization that I was involved in is the Atlanta Community Food Bank. This organization, along with other organization to distribute millions of foods across to metro Atlanta and north Georgia. The Atlanta Community Food Bank also delivers several foods and other critical information that contains various resources to help people who are low–income earners. For example, "the agencies that receive the stuff is constantly being provided by the Atlanta Community Food Bank is food pantries, community kitchen, childcare centers, and senior citizens" (Atlanta Community Food Bank). These are the agency that the Atlanta Community Food Bank most commonly provides. However, that is not the only thing that the Atlanta Community Food Bank does; this organization also tries to educate and engage with people who are in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. For my community service project I did a large variety of projects. I completed a total amount of seventy–one hours, which includes: eleven hours of in school hours, and sixty hours of out of school service. The groups I worked with include: The Immaculate Conception School, The Merimack Heights Academy, and the Mad Science program. Overall I had a great time and a wonderful experience serving the community. For the Immaculate Conception School I did many events. First for the I.C.S I helped to set up with two of the Junior High Socials and ran one of the games at the Halloween party. Through working with our school I learned valuable skills of teamwork and leadership by working with others and being a role model. I learned how to ...show more content... I will never forget this experience and I hope that I am invited back next year to help coach my players. The next community service project I did was to help renovate The Merrimack Heights Academy. We worked for about four hours at the school painting rooms, fences, and other buildings. Although we didn't finish the project I feel a sense of satisfaction that I helped to create a school for special needs children. I also feel that It was a lot of fun to work with all of my classmates outside of school and to see everybody working so hard. The last thing I am going to talk about is my time as a mad scientist assistant job for the journey program. I did this awesome job for about five hours over a period of five weeks. This was really one of the most fun things to do because I have a deep love for science and passing that love on to younger bright eyed students is wonderful. I got quite the experience. After doing this project I can see why teachers get frustrated with us students and all the talking. I realized that the less talking we do the more we get accomplished and the more fun we end up having. I would defiantly do this service again and I recommend it to all science loving students. When I first began this project I was daunted by the amount of hours I would have to complete, but accepted the challenge with much Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Narrative Essay On Community Service Ana Portillo Professor Russel Whitaker English Composition I November 13th, 2017 Narrative Essay Many teens consider community service a chore to complete in order to graduate or something to include on a college application. Yes, I was one of those teens in my high school years, but because I didn't really know what community service was really about, and I hadn't experienced it until my history class. With this opportunity I was able to experience this wonderful community service taught me more than what I could ever give. When I was in high school I had this history subject in which community service was a requirement to pass the class, because of this we had to complete 18 hours of community service during the semester. To be honest,...show more content... I walked there with three girls named Alicia, Veronica and Karla. They showed me where their beds where and gave me a whole tour around the institution. I was impressed with all the beds they had, it was a huge wide room with many vertically arranged beds for each and every one of them. I started on cleaning and washing all the bed quilts, and all the girls were willing to help within everything, I didn't feel it was a job. They all seemed so cheerful and happy because somebody came to help them. Though, I was the one who got out learning things I hardly knew about. They all looked so mature to me, but I only could see a little girl from the outside. Then, I saw from across the room a very shy and quite little girl, she barely talked and interacted with the others. So, I went up to her, and asked her name. "My name is Sofia," she said with tears in her eyes, "What's wrong?", I asked. The other girls told me she had just arrived to the orphanage a few days ago. So, I grabbed her hand and went to the kitchen to give her a sandwich. She was amazed the whole sandwich was just for her, and she couldn't stop thanking me. This shocked me a lot because there are many children out there that don't have a place to stay or anything to eat, while we who have the privilege to have a place to call home, food always on the table, and most importantly a family, we take all that and everybody for granted. We should place more value on all those Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Persuasive Essay On Community Service Every Sunday, I have the opportunity to help as a child care worker in my church's nursery; and every week, after spending just one hour watching over the kids so that their parents can go to service and not have to worry about their children, I remember exactly why I spend my free time helping others. The term "Noblesse Oblige" is why I choose to be involved in multiple childcare opportunities and community service clubs. I believe it is my job to make sure those who are less fortunate, or in need of aid, get the help they require and deserve. I take part in different aspects of community service because it helps better my community and makes me a stronger leader. For the past three years at Liberty High School, I have been a member of the Key Club community service organization. As a member of this club, I am able to help with different jobs around the community that help the people in our town specifically. For example, every first Wednesday of the month I go and help with a project called Snack Pack. During this time, about fifteen other kids and I prepare three weeks worth of food for seventeen high schoolers in our school district. These are kids that do not have enough money at home to always have food on their table. Snack Pack plays an important role in their lives because without it, they would not always eat. These kids deserve the chance to live their life and go to school without having to worry about whether or not the will eat dinner that night. That is why I value my role in this club so much, because I know what we do makes a difference. When the kids collect their food, they are able to relax a little more knowing that their family will be able to eat. Another aspect of Key Club that I take part in is Fairy Tale Forest, held at Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary. Every year, the weekend before Halloween, I volunteer, with a handful of others from the club, to go and work at the children's fairy tale nature walk. The past two years I have been a runner. This means I do the odd little jobs, like run food and drinks around to the different characters that are working in the trail, that would otherwise be forgotten or not done at all. Although this is a small role, it is what helps make Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Why I Need Community Service Imagine struggling to afford the 'mandatory' three meals you're supposed to consume a day. It would be hard and stressful right? I met over one hundred hungry people that have to feel this emotion every day of their life, struggling to provide enough food to make a meal, fulfill their hunger, and stay healthy. On October 17th my senior year of high school I volunteered at a place called "Broad Street Ministry" a Christian based community church. They have many community service opportunities that you can get involved with. I helped with feeding the homeless or those who cannot afford to eat. A teacher at my high school introduced me to this opportunity and I took away a lot of memories I will cherish with this event. On October 17th myself and five other students loaded a van with our health teacher and headed off to Philadelphia. Personally, I volunteered with this event just for community service hours at first but after I left the event I walked away with more than just some hours that I could write on paper, I walked away with life lessons and a heavy heart. We got off the bus at our destination around 9:00 AM to help set up the equipment we were using for the day. As we set everything up I thought that we overdid it because we many tables pushed together forming a long line each table full of food followed by coolers of soda and water. After we got done setting up we had a brief meeting with a head leader of the Broad Street Ministry simply thanking us and giving us a run down of the day. I didn't think the event would last too long and no way there would be that many people coming to get food. I put on the mandatory clothing items we had to wear and got in my place to help out. Noon is when everything started and people started forming a line with plates in hand. More and more people got in the line and eventually we opened everything up to start serving people. By the time we started serving there had to be at least 100 people in line, I have only ever saw this happen on TV or in magazines, never personally. There was such a diverse group of people that came to this event. I noticed the way each persons face lit up when they filled their plate with what they were served, even if they did Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 18. Community Service Scholarship Essay As a student, I have demonstrated many works of service to my community and school. Service opportunities have shaped me into the person I am today and these projects have made me realize how fortunate I am for all that I have. While I've been doing these service projects through the years, it has been a pleasure seeing the joy on the faces of people that aren't as fortunate as I am. Service projects that I have completed include managing the fish booth at the St. Leo's Parish Festival, being an altar server at St. Leo's Parish, helping cook dinner for the Ridgway Fire Department during carnival day setup, participating in the St. Marys Light Up Night by dancing, and Christmas caroling to local residents. I also participated in a zombie /princess Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. "Volunteers are not paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless."– Sherry Anderson (Volunteering Quotes: Finest Quotes). On average, when people think about community service, they assume that volunteering is just 'hours we need to be able to graduate' and that is it. Community service is more than just hours; community service is based on the acts performed by someone with the purpose of helping or bringing benefits to his or her community. People frequently compare community service as a punishment since it is often offered to small–time offenders as an alternative to fines or jail time. However, community service is the vital force to many communities since they depend on the service made by the volunteers...show more content... Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend through the eyes of government and social agencies (Everything you ever wanted to know about volunteering). Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life, since teenagers are the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering has been such an important matter, that schools in many countries around the world established that 12th grade students will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the frequent answers all the schools are getting are "Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to do!" What people are forgetting is that each one of them is part of a community, a community that is not perfect and that the government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because obviously the government needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are not only helping others, they are also helping themselves (Volunteering). Volunteering is not a new subject now, but people did not perceive it before because as time goes by, volunteering is becoming more and more popular since each year more people volunteer. Volunteering began around the early 19th century since America was experimenting with the Great Awakening. The Great Awakening was a period in which the importance of the church was slowly dying and instead the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Volunteering Back To The Community It was a bright, sunny morning, the weather was nice, and the sky was beautiful, yet I was stuck volunteering for my teacher. He holds a river clean–up monthly and for some reason, I decided to wake up early to go out and help him clean the river. Honestly, I had no reason to be there but since a couple of my friends were going, I decided to go and help out also. Our local river was gross and riddled with the homeless, but my teacher's goal was to clean up the area to help the environment and bring something beautiful back to our community. When we started cleaning, there was trash everywhere and the smell was so gross and pungent that it repulsed me. However, as time passed and trash was getting picked up, the area became cleaner and soon it looked like an entirely new place....show more content... I began going to each of the river clean–up's to volunteer and help create an environment where both people and animals can enjoy spending their time. One day, my friend persuaded me to join Key Club, a community–service based club, it widened my horizons on how I can volunteer and help make a difference. Through Key Club, I volunteered at a variety of events, such as in the Gospel Mission to help feed the homeless, and the Peace Officer Memorial Run. Slowly, volunteering became a part of my life and is something that I enjoy doing. Serving the community has changed my outlook on life and I will always be looking for new opportunities to help give back to our Get more content on HelpWriting.net
