Reasons You Should Do Your Homework
First of all, homework causes material being taught in class the next day to have greater relevance and is easier to understand. Students who don't do
their homework tend to not understand the material being taught the next day as described in the article, "Why Homework Matters: Top Five (5)
Reasons You Probably Should Do Your Homework" by Michael Bromley. According to the article, "If you don't do your homework, you will most
often not know what the teacher is doing in class the next day. (Bromley 2)" If you did do your homework, you would better understand the material
being taught the next day. If you don't do your homework, would fall behind the students who did do their homework. Also, you would have an

Teachers tend to put test questions on your homework so you could get a better score on tests if you do your homework as described in the article
by Michael Bromley, "Why Homework Matters: Top Five (5) Reasons You Probably Should Do Your Homework". In the article it states,
"Teachers use test questions for homework and homework for test questions. (Bromley 4)" If students do their homework they will be able to
practice test questions and by being able to practice test questions students who did their homework would have a better score on tests. Better test
scores improve your grade because tests and assessments make up 80% of your grade. Also, the less homework you do the worse your grades get as
described in the article Michael Bromley, "Why Homework Matters: Top Five (5) Reasons You Probably Should Do Your Homework". In the
article it states, "The less you do your homework, the worse the class will become. And your grades. (Bromley 5)" Not only will your grades
worsen, you class will worsen too. You could easily avoid all of this by doing your homework. If you were a student who did their homework you
would most likely not have to worry about bad grades. Given these examples, student should do homework because it can help improve your

Homework VS Students What would parents think if they found out that homework may do more damage to students then good? Parents do not
know the harm that homework is causing to their kids, students are sent home every day with hours of homework leaving students with no time to
manage everything they have to do throughout the day. Students go to bed very late at night just to finish up homework and have to wake up the
next day on only a hand full of hours of sleep and then this will proceed to affect the students academically at school. Homework has numerous of
consequences for students and that is why I believe homework should be banned from certain grade levels as well as restrictions and policies on
homework should be applied. Homework may bring emotional, physical, and socially damaging to students. Most of the students in the U.S. take
multiple classes with different subjects each school year. Some of these students see their teacher every day or every other day, this means students
are going home every day with homework and that includes weekends. Students already spend 8 hours a day on weekdays in school and then they also
have to go home with about 2–4 hours of homework. If there are only 24 hours in a day and 8 are spent at school, another 8 hours sleeping, and about
3 hours of homework that leaves students with 5 hours to eat, shower, socialize, be involved in extracurricular actives, work for those who need to, and
time to spend with their family. Above all, it is obvious students do not have enough time in the day to juggle all of this, and that is not counting the
students that take bus and arrive home later than other students. Due to not having enough time through the day students will have to pick and choice
how they spend their hours outside of school, one of the most common things students sacrifice is their sleep at night and this affects them so bad and
they have no idea. According to the research MD Craig Canapari found "Short sleep makes children obese, sleepiness is a significant cause of
automobile accidents which is the most common cause of death in teenagers, depression, anxiety, and irritability are all associated with insufficient
sleep."(2012 p.1) Another thing students usually

Homework Giving homework is controversial in the world today. Many people think it is unnecessary to give homework, while other people think it
is necessary. A lot of it also depends on the students that are getting the homework. Homework has many effects on students in all places and all grade
levels, some good and some bad.
Pressure and Stress From Homework Giving too much homework puts lots of pressure on students, causing stress. Homework should not pressure and
stress out students as much as it does. First, homework puts a lot of pressure on students, not just high school students, but elementary and middle school
students ("Is Homework a Good Idea" 5). Most of them are either afraid that their teacher or parents will be angry with them, they won't get into a class
they want, or they won't get into the college they want if they don't get a good grade. While trying to get a good grade, students feel pressure being put
on them by their family, teachers, and even colleges to get the good grades. From all this pressure students get stressed and giving them extra
homework does not help (Wilde 2). Not only do they have the homework to worry about now, but they have their extracurricular and family activities to
worry about. Homework doesn't just put pressure on students, it also interrupts their after school activities.
Homework interrupting other activities
Many students have after school activities, or want spend time with their families. None of this is possible when

Essay on Does Homework Actually Help Students
Everyone at one point in time has complained they have had too much homework. Especially in High School. I was always told homework will help
me because it is a way to practice and fully master the material I needed to learn. In high school students spend a few hours a night doing what they see
as busy work, meaning they do not think it is helping them at all. Some students do not mind work load. They feel doing the problems, writing the short
responses, filling out packets, helps them because they practice and remember the material. Aquestion that has come up is whether assigning packets of
homework, mostly finding a word and it's definition, will help students master material better than assigning less or none at all. I believe that...show

In cases like this, students do not learn the material. By simply writing many definitions, or even writing wrong definitions, students do not grasp a
deep understanding of concepts or main points of the material. As stated in the book Helping Your Child with Homework, the best type of homework
assignments are the type that include some kind of feedback from the teacher to the student; the homework assigned to students should also be at a
level appropriate for the students learning abilities, and the assignments should challenge the student intellectually (book citation). Packets filled with
simple questions such as " what is meiosis" or "give the definition of simile" do not challenge students and teachers do not give much, or any, feedback
to students with this type of homework. Many argue that it is difficult for teachers to give feedback when they teach one hundred or more students.
The amount of papers they need to grade is high and they simply do not have the time to write comments on every assignment. My answer to this is
simple. Instead of assigning packets of homework, assign a few critical thinking questions. The students would give a brief summary on the main
concept, then perhaps paraphrase a definition that is important to know. Students would then really think about their answers and the teacher could give
comments since they will no longer have to skim packets. Teachers would only have to read

Does Homework Really Work

New research shows that homework has a negative effect on neuroplasticity of the brain. Homework stresses students by The articles "Homework

The article "Homework Doesn't Improve Student Course Grades, But Could Boost Standardized Test Scores" by: The Huffington Post discuses how
homework is not necessary. The article says "With all the activities taking up children's time both in school and out of school, the purpose of each

In "The Trouble with Homework" by Annie Murphy Paul for The New York Times, she says that "The quantity of students' homework is a lot less
important than its quality."–Murphy Paul. The article reveals students in this decade have more homework ever before because most of it is busy
work. It can be concluded homework done just to get credit is pointless.

Cognitive and neuroscientists have made new discoveries about learning and the human brain. Improved learning methods that help students retain and
understand knowledge have been applied in the classroom, but not to homework. One method is the spaced learning method. "Eighth–grade history
students who relied on a spaced approach to learning had nearly double the retention rate of students who studied the same material in a consolidated
unit" –Murphy Paul This is one example of how the type of homework is more important than the amount.

"Does Homework Really Work?" by Leslie Crawford agrees with The Huffington Post and Murphy Paul. "homework (takes) precious family time and
puts kids under unneeded pressure, is an ineffective way to help children become better learners and thinkers." –Crawford. One Canadian couple took

What the public is concerned about is if homework should even be assigned? Homework was contrived to prepare students and help them engage them
in the content being taught. Homework also enacts time management skills and responsibility of growing young adults. Although the debate about if
homework should be given minimally or in discretion and that homework has no verified benefits still stands. Homework is necessary for causing
students to be engaged in the content taught and delivers time management skills for the future.
The stance that homework is necessary and helps students engage in the content and learn time management skills is one I concede with assiduously.
Homework is given to students to help them retain the information they learned in class and leads to academic achievement. Many research studies
have found evidence of a positive correlation between homework and student achievement. Since students are given homework nightly, it will help
them absorb the content and they can score higher on a test or quiz. Homework also helps students develop responsibility and life skills, and prepares
students in time management skills. Research claims the ability to manage tasks provides essential learning, increased motivation, and academic
benefits. When students engage in homework it makes them more successful and independent in the long run. Although homework may take up time
after an extracurricular and can lead to less sleep; for example, a student doing a sport after school, getting home and having to do homework on top of
that. Doing an extracurricular and still completing homework are inherently important, students will gain time management skills if they are doing
both. If a student can learn to juggle an extracurricular with homework it will help them learn life skills. Homework will lead to the academic growth,
achievement, and the success of a student.
The stance that homework is important, but discretion can and should be used when assigning it is one I partially concede with. Homework should
be given in the accounts of different classes, since not all classes are the same. Homework is given in regards to class type (CP, Honors,
Advanced–Placement), homework severs different classes by rigor

Essay On Homework
Homework is something that has been required for generations. Homework, like anything has many ups and downs, many positives and negatives,
many highs and lows, whatever you want to call them. Homework ranges from kindergarten to college, and quite possibly your future job. Homework
is something that is unavoidable, it will always be there, no matter how much you try to avoid it. Homework can be described as useless busy work that
is assigned to students, but doesn't necessarily benefit them at all.
Homework is something that causes students to miss multiple hours of sleep due to working on homework. It can be described as stressful,
difficult, but one of the better words can describe homework as useless. Have you ever worked on a homework assignment and thought : "Why am I
doing this?" Or have you ever been up hours past your curfew because you're working on homework? All teachers and bosses have different
approaches when it comes to assigning homework. Some deadlines are more flexible, some assignments are longer, and some are an option for
students to do. The big question still remains : "Does homework benefit students?"
If you're thinking that homework does benefit students, let's take a close look at how much homework can actually benefit students. If a student has 7
class periods a day, and 6 of those class periods include homework. That student is having to worry about 6 tasks, generally spending a minimum of 3
to 4 hours working on homework. If that task is long,

The Pros and Cons of Homework Essay
Homework: Does it Help, or Harm Us? When a class is almost over and a teacher starts assigning homework, every student's heart drops. When
students have an excess of homework, they do not do as well. Even though homework is a good tool to help teachers teach students subjects, teachers
should give less homework because too much homework causes mental health issues in students and less homework helps improve test scores. The
first reason teachers should give students less homework is that it takes away their childhood. When a student goes to school for seven hours a day,
and then goes home to three hours of homework, they do not get to be a kid. It is suggested that student adopt an eight–eight–eight schedule. This
schedule being eight...show more content...
Assigning less homework in schools could reduce teen anxiety and teen depression rates (Kohn). The next reason too much homework is harmful to
students is that studies show more homework to cause lower test scores. One to two hours of homework a week does not cause a major change in test
scores (Wolchover). There is no evidence of homework having any academic benefit in elementary or middle school, and the academic benefit found in
high school is very weak (Kohn). Homework is not shown to help students academically until grades ten through twelve (Wolchover). There is also no
proof that homework increases good study habits in students (Kohn). On top of too much homework making standardized test scores lower, much of
this homework is just busy work (Wolchover). Many teachers ask their student to re–write pages in a textbook. This just causes the student to spend
time on something that has no real purpose. Remedial work has no positive effect on students. It just takes up more time ("Too Much Homework Can
Cause Stress, Depression and Lower Grades, Studies Suggest"). Even homework that is useful in some way should be limited. Studies show that a
student's time is more useful when they play an instrument or a sport. Parent's want their student to be good at many things. It is more important to be
a well–rounded person than to ace all of your tests (Wolchover). One of the top

Getting home from school, a student immediately takes off his shoes, gets a snack, and takes out the homework he has. Just before he sits down,
somebody rings the doorbell. Opening the door, it's the student's friend.
"Hey wanna play video games at my house?" asked the friend. "No I have homework," said the student. "You can never play, you always have too
much homework," complained the friend. "Maybe on Saturday or Sunday if I'm not loaded with homework," explained the student. The students

would waste homework time. He tries and tries, but he just can't get it so he scribbles down a random answer. Thinking he's done, he is about to
put it in his math binder when he realizes there's a back. Shrieking on the inside, he starts the back realizing the whole back is the type of problem
he's been having trouble with. He scribbles down more random answers and quickly glancing at the clock, he's already wasted 15 minutes on that one
worksheet. Looking in his backpack he realizes he has notes to take in social studies, a drawing for art, a document to complete

Sometimes when you put off doing something, you get hurt. The end of last week I had so much homework piling up, but it didn't seem to bother
me. I came up with multiple excuses and reasons for why I "couldn't" do my homework for my Student Success class. Thursday, the 21st of July, I
drove straight to the airport after my professor dismissed class. In the meantime, while I was waiting for my flight I went on a search for
something to eat so I would be fully energized and focused when doing my homework. I made a promise to myself that the second I board the
airplane, I would do all of my homework on the way to Atlanta, Georgia. I concluded that if I didn't get it done before I arrived to the city, that I
wouldn't do it at all because I planned

A high schooler comes home from school. He gets out his homework and gets started. The mom of the student said start your homework and then we

busy to help. That happens every day at this family home. When the boy got his test scores back later in the year, they were so low. Students have busy
lifestyles and stress at home. They need time away from studies to appreciate what they learn. There are so many things that can help them prepare for
life outside of school and giving a lot of homework causes stress to the student and family. I wanted to find a way to get schools to cut down on
homework. Too many kids are doing badly on a test because of the time constraints and stress to complete homework. So let's do something about it.
When I was researching, I asked myself "How can I get schools to cut down on homework?"After all the research that I did, it was clear to me that we
can help the kids in school to have less homework.
Statistics about too much homework are illuminating: too much homework can lead to being counterproductive. After a school day, kids come home
and do their homework that can cause stress to a family that has other needs or issues, such as low income. Too much homework can have a negative
effect because they might be from a home that doesn't have everything they need. They might not have parents or older siblings

"To be ready for tomorrow's opportunities, do your homework today. Learn, refine your skills, and focus on growth." This quote by an unknown
person perfectly demonstrates the importance of homework. What this quote is trying to say is that in order to be prepared for the opportunities life
gives you, do your homework first. It'll prepare you for the future. Although homework takes time to finish, it is very beneficial in several different
ways. Homework teaches students the importance of responsibility, time management, and self–respect. Assignments given to children from school to
do at home, helps students review and remember the lessons taught that day or week. Even if students dislike school work, it is undoubtedly essential.
Definitely, most agree that school work is very tiring. However, they do not realize how homework teaches students responsibility. By doing school
work, they have a sense of responsibility which will help them be successful in the future. A company would unquestionably hire a person who knows
how to be responsible and will do their work when told. If the person is consistent and is responsible with their work and time, the company will surely
promote them. Which means that the person will be paid higher, feel better about themselves, and will try harder to earn the company's trust. The
benefits of responsibility and homework are unmistakable. Responsibility will also help students get better grades. People know they are responsible
for their grades and their assignments getting completed. So if they take the initiative to finish their homework, then their effort will show through how
well they're doing in school. Good grades mean getting into good colleges and universities. Through responsibilities, students learn that they are
accountable for their actions and know they will have consequences if they don't do something. An example of taking responsibility is when a student
hasn't done their homework. The teacher punishes the student by not letting the student go home after school has ended. The student learns the
importance of homework and responsibility. Next time, the student should finish their homework. As seen in the example, by not doing homework, the

Homework is work that a student is given to complete at home. It can be research, reading, writing or typing. According to Vatterott (2009), homework
is extremely rare to be questioned as it is a long–standing education tradition. The culture of homework has began generations ago. Initially, homework

Homework: To Give or Not to Give?
Homework, a single word that carries differing opinions amongst varied individuals. With the debate of homework at the forefront of many schools
and classroom teachers, there are two positions to consider. Before taking a side and conducting research, we began by simply looking at what the word
homework means. The Merriam–Webster dictionary defines homework as, "an assignment given to a student to be completed outside the regular class
period" (2017). The concept of homework is one that has been recently highly debated. With every school's 'hot topic' there are pros and cons to be
discovered. Looking at the topic of homework, the list seems to grow exponentially as our world rapidly changes.
The driving force behind homework is to reinforce taught concepts from classroom instruction. Homework provides students opportunity to practice
targeted skills without taking up valuable classroom instructional time. Students benefit from the routine homework establishes and the responsibility it
promotes in children at a young age. This helps develop essential practices in turn setting them up to become lifelong learners. Beyond the academic
opportunity homework provides, it additionally encourages positive long–lasting lessons for future success in life. Homework supports students to
develop responsibility through managing materials, prioritizing tasks, and balancing time management of assignments.
Homework provides the opportunity to bridge the gap between home and school. It is a means of communication. Students are able to engage their
family members in current classroom content, often leaning on parents for assistance to complete homework in the younger grades. According to V.
Tam and R. Chan, it is important to "consider the home–school communication role of homework which includes designing assignments that explicitly
involve parents, as in parent–child projects" (2016, p. 40). Through this, homework can help increase the opportunity for high quality family time
opening up the doors for collaboration amongst family members and further enhancing the home school bond.
Beyond the positive effects homework has on students, it also provides insight for teachers.

Reflection On Homework
Reflective Journal
Today was our first lesson. I was amazed by the idea that homework does not necessarily needed. I am very curious how we can teach without it.
How will the parents respond to this idea? In addition, it seems that it is important for children to understand that there are consequences for their
choices. This way they will learn to make the right choices. As their teachers, we have the responsibility not only to give them knowledge, but also to
give them tools for life. One of the things we learnt this lesson was about motivation and how important it is to motivate our students. However, it
sounded very strange to me. If it is so good and important to be creative, variety and so forth, how is it that so many of my teachers...show more

It seems that no research found benefits from homework in the cognitive department. It also seems that there are many disadvantages for homework;
it causes inequality, less sleep time, less family time, and so forth. I never thought about it before, homework seems always so natural. At my old
school, you had to get homework, if you did not get, the teachers and the parents referred to the lesson as if he did not occur. From the video, it seems
that most of the belief in homework is just a myth. However, I think that practice makes perfect, and homework gives the student the opportunity to
practice. Therefore, we also learnt that although homework has many disadvantages, you could make it useful sometimes. It all depends on the kind of
homework that you give your students. Homework needs to be design not assign. I need to think about a meaningful and personal task. Personal
involvement can make the whole difference. In addition, I need to assign the homework before the end of the lesson, and then to explain it and
demonstrate it, to ensure that everyone understands the homework. Otherwise, the students that did not understand it will be frustrated since they
could not do it, and will not want to do it in the future

Parents, students, and teachers all sometimes wonder how useful is homework? Though studies examining the relationship between homework and
school achievement have been inclusive(ERIC). Still many teachers and researchers still agree that homework helps students achieve higher grades in
school. Schools that assigned homework frequently showed higher student achievement than schools that assigned little homework(ERIC). This means
that homework is working. Studies have generally found that if teachers carefully plan homework, homework can be quite helpful(KidSource).
Homework has proven its effectiveness and is a very powerful factor in student performance.
Students should only spend enough time on homework so that the subject is reinforced and not just a waste of time. The national PTA suggest that
from K–3 grades there should be no more than 20 minutes a day, for 4–6 grades there should be 20–40 minutes of homework, and from 7–12 grades
time varies do to types of subjects and number of subjects taken(KidSource). Anymore than these recommended amount of times is seen excessive by

Descriptive Essay About Homework
Gemless As I parked in the gravel filled lot I settled in my car for a few minutes contemplating homework from each of my classes. I stepped outside
with my belongings; there was a slight breeze from the remnants of Hurricane Harvey. Clouds dotted the orange tinted sky as the sun tried to climb up
to be fully seen. The day right from the start seemed like a good day so I went about smiling and walked blissfully to my normal seat next to my
friends. We prepared for the coming classes that day. The deafening bell sounded and we were on our way to start the actual day. My classmates
and I walked joyfully through the hallways, joking and laughing before reaching our first period destination. I made my way to the front of the
classroom and sat down. The air was crisp so I took out my jacket and put it on. Our teacher walked in a few minutes late and started to take
attendance. The whole classroom focused on him. After he finished taking attendance, he slowly reached down into a drawer and pulled out a stack of
papers. I stared in disbelief. The stack of papers he pulled out was actually a pop–test. I took the pop–test trying to recall everything that we had learned
over the course of two weeks. I focused on the test for most of the class period and finally turned it in. The morning weather seemed to just be a ruse.
This was not a blissful or good day; it took a turn for the worst. I sat there in the chilling room trying to think of something else to keep

Reasons You Should Do Your Homework

  • 1. Reasons You Should Do Your Homework First of all, homework causes material being taught in class the next day to have greater relevance and is easier to understand. Students who don't do their homework tend to not understand the material being taught the next day as described in the article, "Why Homework Matters: Top Five (5) Reasons You Probably Should Do Your Homework" by Michael Bromley. According to the article, "If you don't do your homework, you will most often not know what the teacher is doing in class the next day. (Bromley 2)" If you did do your homework, you would better understand the material being taught the next day. If you don't do your homework, would fall behind the students who did do their homework. Also, you would have an extremely difficult time catching...show more content... Teachers tend to put test questions on your homework so you could get a better score on tests if you do your homework as described in the article by Michael Bromley, "Why Homework Matters: Top Five (5) Reasons You Probably Should Do Your Homework". In the article it states, "Teachers use test questions for homework and homework for test questions. (Bromley 4)" If students do their homework they will be able to practice test questions and by being able to practice test questions students who did their homework would have a better score on tests. Better test scores improve your grade because tests and assessments make up 80% of your grade. Also, the less homework you do the worse your grades get as described in the article Michael Bromley, "Why Homework Matters: Top Five (5) Reasons You Probably Should Do Your Homework". In the article it states, "The less you do your homework, the worse the class will become. And your grades. (Bromley 5)" Not only will your grades worsen, you class will worsen too. You could easily avoid all of this by doing your homework. If you were a student who did their homework you would most likely not have to worry about bad grades. Given these examples, student should do homework because it can help improve your Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Homework Vs Students Homework VS Students What would parents think if they found out that homework may do more damage to students then good? Parents do not know the harm that homework is causing to their kids, students are sent home every day with hours of homework leaving students with no time to manage everything they have to do throughout the day. Students go to bed very late at night just to finish up homework and have to wake up the next day on only a hand full of hours of sleep and then this will proceed to affect the students academically at school. Homework has numerous of consequences for students and that is why I believe homework should be banned from certain grade levels as well as restrictions and policies on homework should be applied. Homework may bring emotional, physical, and socially damaging to students. Most of the students in the U.S. take multiple classes with different subjects each school year. Some of these students see their teacher every day or every other day, this means students are going home every day with homework and that includes weekends. Students already spend 8 hours a day on weekdays in school and then they also have to go home with about 2–4 hours of homework. If there are only 24 hours in a day and 8 are spent at school, another 8 hours sleeping, and about 3 hours of homework that leaves students with 5 hours to eat, shower, socialize, be involved in extracurricular actives, work for those who need to, and time to spend with their family. Above all, it is obvious students do not have enough time in the day to juggle all of this, and that is not counting the students that take bus and arrive home later than other students. Due to not having enough time through the day students will have to pick and choice how they spend their hours outside of school, one of the most common things students sacrifice is their sleep at night and this affects them so bad and they have no idea. According to the research MD Craig Canapari found "Short sleep makes children obese, sleepiness is a significant cause of automobile accidents which is the most common cause of death in teenagers, depression, anxiety, and irritability are all associated with insufficient sleep."(2012 p.1) Another thing students usually Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Persuasive Essay On Homework Homework Giving homework is controversial in the world today. Many people think it is unnecessary to give homework, while other people think it is necessary. A lot of it also depends on the students that are getting the homework. Homework has many effects on students in all places and all grade levels, some good and some bad. Pressure and Stress From Homework Giving too much homework puts lots of pressure on students, causing stress. Homework should not pressure and stress out students as much as it does. First, homework puts a lot of pressure on students, not just high school students, but elementary and middle school students ("Is Homework a Good Idea" 5). Most of them are either afraid that their teacher or parents will be angry with them, they won't get into a class they want, or they won't get into the college they want if they don't get a good grade. While trying to get a good grade, students feel pressure being put on them by their family, teachers, and even colleges to get the good grades. From all this pressure students get stressed and giving them extra homework does not help (Wilde 2). Not only do they have the homework to worry about now, but they have their extracurricular and family activities to worry about. Homework doesn't just put pressure on students, it also interrupts their after school activities. Homework interrupting other activities Many students have after school activities, or want spend time with their families. None of this is possible when Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay on Does Homework Actually Help Students Everyone at one point in time has complained they have had too much homework. Especially in High School. I was always told homework will help me because it is a way to practice and fully master the material I needed to learn. In high school students spend a few hours a night doing what they see as busy work, meaning they do not think it is helping them at all. Some students do not mind work load. They feel doing the problems, writing the short responses, filling out packets, helps them because they practice and remember the material. Aquestion that has come up is whether assigning packets of homework, mostly finding a word and it's definition, will help students master material better than assigning less or none at all. I believe that...show more content... In cases like this, students do not learn the material. By simply writing many definitions, or even writing wrong definitions, students do not grasp a deep understanding of concepts or main points of the material. As stated in the book Helping Your Child with Homework, the best type of homework assignments are the type that include some kind of feedback from the teacher to the student; the homework assigned to students should also be at a level appropriate for the students learning abilities, and the assignments should challenge the student intellectually (book citation). Packets filled with simple questions such as " what is meiosis" or "give the definition of simile" do not challenge students and teachers do not give much, or any, feedback to students with this type of homework. Many argue that it is difficult for teachers to give feedback when they teach one hundred or more students. The amount of papers they need to grade is high and they simply do not have the time to write comments on every assignment. My answer to this is simple. Instead of assigning packets of homework, assign a few critical thinking questions. The students would give a brief summary on the main concept, then perhaps paraphrase a definition that is important to know. Students would then really think about their answers and the teacher could give comments since they will no longer have to skim packets. Teachers would only have to read Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Does Homework Really Work 1 New research shows that homework has a negative effect on neuroplasticity of the brain. Homework stresses students by The articles "Homework Doesn't Improve Student Course Grades, But Could Boost Standardized Test Scores" by The Huffington Post, "The Trouble with Homework" by Annie Murphy Paul, and "Does Homework Really Work?" by Leslie Crawford support this theory. P.2 The article "Homework Doesn't Improve Student Course Grades, But Could Boost Standardized Test Scores" by: The Huffington Post discuses how homework is not necessary. The article says "With all the activities taking up children's time both in school and out of school, the purpose of each homework assignment must be clear and targeted,"–The huffington Post. This means some...show more content... In "The Trouble with Homework" by Annie Murphy Paul for The New York Times, she says that "The quantity of students' homework is a lot less important than its quality."–Murphy Paul. The article reveals students in this decade have more homework ever before because most of it is busy work. It can be concluded homework done just to get credit is pointless. P.4 Cognitive and neuroscientists have made new discoveries about learning and the human brain. Improved learning methods that help students retain and understand knowledge have been applied in the classroom, but not to homework. One method is the spaced learning method. "Eighth–grade history students who relied on a spaced approach to learning had nearly double the retention rate of students who studied the same material in a consolidated unit" –Murphy Paul This is one example of how the type of homework is more important than the amount. P.5 "Does Homework Really Work?" by Leslie Crawford agrees with The Huffington Post and Murphy Paul. "homework (takes) precious family time and puts kids under unneeded pressure, is an ineffective way to help children become better learners and thinkers." –Crawford. One Canadian couple took

  • 7. Persuasive Essay On Homework What the public is concerned about is if homework should even be assigned? Homework was contrived to prepare students and help them engage them in the content being taught. Homework also enacts time management skills and responsibility of growing young adults. Although the debate about if homework should be given minimally or in discretion and that homework has no verified benefits still stands. Homework is necessary for causing students to be engaged in the content taught and delivers time management skills for the future. The stance that homework is necessary and helps students engage in the content and learn time management skills is one I concede with assiduously. Homework is given to students to help them retain the information they learned in class and leads to academic achievement. Many research studies have found evidence of a positive correlation between homework and student achievement. Since students are given homework nightly, it will help them absorb the content and they can score higher on a test or quiz. Homework also helps students develop responsibility and life skills, and prepares students in time management skills. Research claims the ability to manage tasks provides essential learning, increased motivation, and academic benefits. When students engage in homework it makes them more successful and independent in the long run. Although homework may take up time after an extracurricular and can lead to less sleep; for example, a student doing a sport after school, getting home and having to do homework on top of that. Doing an extracurricular and still completing homework are inherently important, students will gain time management skills if they are doing both. If a student can learn to juggle an extracurricular with homework it will help them learn life skills. Homework will lead to the academic growth, achievement, and the success of a student. The stance that homework is important, but discretion can and should be used when assigning it is one I partially concede with. Homework should be given in the accounts of different classes, since not all classes are the same. Homework is given in regards to class type (CP, Honors, Advanced–Placement), homework severs different classes by rigor Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Essay On Homework Homework is something that has been required for generations. Homework, like anything has many ups and downs, many positives and negatives, many highs and lows, whatever you want to call them. Homework ranges from kindergarten to college, and quite possibly your future job. Homework is something that is unavoidable, it will always be there, no matter how much you try to avoid it. Homework can be described as useless busy work that is assigned to students, but doesn't necessarily benefit them at all. Homework is something that causes students to miss multiple hours of sleep due to working on homework. It can be described as stressful, difficult, but one of the better words can describe homework as useless. Have you ever worked on a homework assignment and thought : "Why am I doing this?" Or have you ever been up hours past your curfew because you're working on homework? All teachers and bosses have different approaches when it comes to assigning homework. Some deadlines are more flexible, some assignments are longer, and some are an option for students to do. The big question still remains : "Does homework benefit students?" If you're thinking that homework does benefit students, let's take a close look at how much homework can actually benefit students. If a student has 7 class periods a day, and 6 of those class periods include homework. That student is having to worry about 6 tasks, generally spending a minimum of 3 to 4 hours working on homework. If that task is long, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. The Pros and Cons of Homework Essay Homework: Does it Help, or Harm Us? When a class is almost over and a teacher starts assigning homework, every student's heart drops. When students have an excess of homework, they do not do as well. Even though homework is a good tool to help teachers teach students subjects, teachers should give less homework because too much homework causes mental health issues in students and less homework helps improve test scores. The first reason teachers should give students less homework is that it takes away their childhood. When a student goes to school for seven hours a day, and then goes home to three hours of homework, they do not get to be a kid. It is suggested that student adopt an eight–eight–eight schedule. This schedule being eight...show more content... Assigning less homework in schools could reduce teen anxiety and teen depression rates (Kohn). The next reason too much homework is harmful to students is that studies show more homework to cause lower test scores. One to two hours of homework a week does not cause a major change in test scores (Wolchover). There is no evidence of homework having any academic benefit in elementary or middle school, and the academic benefit found in high school is very weak (Kohn). Homework is not shown to help students academically until grades ten through twelve (Wolchover). There is also no proof that homework increases good study habits in students (Kohn). On top of too much homework making standardized test scores lower, much of this homework is just busy work (Wolchover). Many teachers ask their student to re–write pages in a textbook. This just causes the student to spend time on something that has no real purpose. Remedial work has no positive effect on students. It just takes up more time ("Too Much Homework Can Cause Stress, Depression and Lower Grades, Studies Suggest"). Even homework that is useful in some way should be limited. Studies show that a student's time is more useful when they play an instrument or a sport. Parent's want their student to be good at many things. It is more important to be a well–rounded person than to ace all of your tests (Wolchover). One of the top Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Essay On Homework Getting home from school, a student immediately takes off his shoes, gets a snack, and takes out the homework he has. Just before he sits down, somebody rings the doorbell. Opening the door, it's the student's friend. "Hey wanna play video games at my house?" asked the friend. "No I have homework," said the student. "You can never play, you always have too much homework," complained the friend. "Maybe on Saturday or Sunday if I'm not loaded with homework," explained the student. The students gets back to his seat and commences the seemingly, never ending homework marathon. Starting off with math, his favorite subject he blows through the first few problems and is already halfway down the sheet. Blowing through the next few problems he is almost at the bottom before he hits a type of problem that's been burdening him all week. He would ask his teacher or mom for help, but he doesn't want to seem dumb, and it would waste homework time. He tries and tries, but he just can't get it so he scribbles down a random answer. Thinking he's done, he is about to put it in his math binder when he realizes there's a back. Shrieking on the inside, he starts the back realizing the whole back is the type of problem he's been having trouble with. He scribbles down more random answers and quickly glancing at the clock, he's already wasted 15 minutes on that one worksheet. Looking in his backpack he realizes he has notes to take in social studies, a drawing for art, a document to complete Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Personal Essay On Homework Sometimes when you put off doing something, you get hurt. The end of last week I had so much homework piling up, but it didn't seem to bother me. I came up with multiple excuses and reasons for why I "couldn't" do my homework for my Student Success class. Thursday, the 21st of July, I drove straight to the airport after my professor dismissed class. In the meantime, while I was waiting for my flight I went on a search for something to eat so I would be fully energized and focused when doing my homework. I made a promise to myself that the second I board the airplane, I would do all of my homework on the way to Atlanta, Georgia. I concluded that if I didn't get it done before I arrived to the city, that I wouldn't do it at all because I planned Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Essay On Homework A high schooler comes home from school.
