Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 6:10 pm and a quorum was met. Attendees were: Edith Conyers,
Roy Cornett, Michelle Adams, Leo Doyle, Kathleen Caudill (by phone) & Charlotte Brabant
Edith Conyers made motion to accept minutes of the last meeting. Michelle seconded it. Motion
passed.
Charlotte gave the Secretary/Treasurers Report: The bank balance is $1395.28. Since our bank balance
is below $2,000, there will be a $10 service charge per month. Edith made motion to change banks.
Michelle seconded. Charlotte will look into Whitaker Bank where there are no service fees. CKyBCH has
16 single members and 7 family members.
2012 SETC Conference: Michelle and Edith said that this is on track and that we will probably have 200+
attendees. Emails will be sent to various State horse councils and KY people. We need various
volunteers: a hotel room tracker, a Facebook, Twitter and Blog person and 2 more speakers. So far
there are 21. Edith is in charge of facilities and workshops. Kathy is taking care of the Silent Auction
items. Deb Balliet is doing a fabulous job with speakers and scheduling. Michelle stated that, for the
Youth effort, there will be a trip to a farrier school and that the Forest Service will give a presentation on
safety. Cynthia Higgs would like to get a few more sponsors at $1,000 each.
Reservoir Spring Work Day, May 19: Michelle set it up where Roy and volunteers will teach students
and they will use some of the grant money to buy trail signs. Edith said that she will donate signs that
she currently has. Michelle and Roy still need to choose which project they will use.
Memorial Day Grand Opening of Brush Mountain: Roy reported that they could not begin work because
they could not use prison help unless they worked, at the most, 300 feet from the prison vehicle.
Regarding the other section of Brush Mtn., Roy will find another route as this section is too steep for
your average horse and rider.
STEP Grant F for LNT Course: Michelle reported that the $5095 grant from AQHA needs to be
transferred from CKyBCH’s account to KHC’s for liability insurance reasons. Roy made a motion to
transfer funds. Michelle seconded. Motion passed.
Letcher County Project: Roy reported that he was there last week and the week before. They thought
they were ready to start construction but could not. They eventually made decisions on the flagged
trees that could or could not be taken out. This is an 8.5 mile trail.
Tentative National BCHA Dues Increase in 2015: Individual dues might increase from $10 to $15 and
Family dues might increase from $13 to $18. Dues have not been increased since 2003. Edith made a
2. motion for CKyBCH be in favor of the proposed increase in BCHA national dues. Roy Cornett seconded.
The motion is passed.
Leo Doyle made motion that the Annual BCH rendezvous at Mammoth Cave Horse Camp be moved to
June 22, 23, & 24. Michelle seconded. Motion passed. Deb Balliet recommended that Russell Clark be
invited to the rendezvous.
Edith reported on Western KY Higginson/Henry issues – WKYCH members are not able to compromise
on much of anything. Edith will look into protocol as to how to act on this situation and will then give us
updates.
The next meeting is scheduled for the Monday, June 11, beginning at 6 pm., at the KHC conference
room.
The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
