Ellie Olivella-Bell proposes creating a 15-20 page comic book about a person with mundane superpowers for her final major project. She will draw inspiration from comedic comics like Scott Pilgrim and employ Shen Comix's simple art style. To evaluate her work, Ellie will create weekly video diaries and seek peer feedback to improve her comic. Her summative evaluation will include a video explaining her challenges and opportunities for growth.

Graphic Design
Graphic design/Illustration - Comic Book
Rationale:150 words approx.
Throughout my 2 years I developed more skills on graphic design. One of the things I made
was the advertising that I made for a project during first year and one of the things I
managed to do is draw out broken glass on a poster. I couldn’t find an image of broken
glass so I decided to draw it on and it looks realistic. Another thing is the grid project, for
that project I made the logo and a website design. It was a different art style than the
advertising project but it’s good to experiment with different art styles so you can get a
good idea of what you want your idea to be like. This will impact my work because now I
have a lot of different skills and I can use this knowledge with my fmp and easily know what
the art style and vibe of the project is going to be.
Project Concept: 200 words approx.
My project concept is going to be a comic about a person with superpowers that is
anything a human can do, so like holding ones breath for 20 minutes. My research will be
looking at different comics that fit the same vibe and that vibetone is a comedy/satirical/not
taking itself too seriously vibe.Tone.One of the comics would be the Scott Pilgrim comic
and how the characters interact with each other and how the story develops. For the art
style I already have an idea in my head but I would mainly use Shen Comix’s art style as it’s
simple but effectiveto make. Because this comic won’t take itself too seriously I don’t need
to add a lot of detail to it.
For my audience I’ll research certain audiences who like comics so I can know exactly what
the audience wants. For this I’ll use websites that have different groups and look for a
comic book group and post my survey there and let people who are in my audience fill it
out. I would try and make around 15-20 pages as I have limited time and I don’t want my
first comic to be too long. The characters in the comic aren’t meant to be serious and
they’re just two idiots trying to figure things out.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:150 words approx.
To evaluate my work I have decided that I would do a video evaluation and also a diary entry on
what I have done. Doing a weekly video diary would help me explain my work with a lot more detail
and it would be easier for me to talk about more things while speaking. I plan to review my work
every week to see if I can change anything about it like for example if I need to swap colours, add
more shading, see if the script works with the comic, etc. I would also get peer feedback from
either my friends or family to see if it’s ready for the commercial public and if I need to change
anything. This would help me in my future as then I can quickly change things around and have
more knowledge if something works with something else or not. I would have past knowledge on
any mistakes so I wouldn’t make them again.
The summative evaluation will be a video of me explaning the whole proect and my challenges
through it. I will also explain the positives and negatives of the project and see what I can improve

in the future. For the diary entries I will do a weekly upload of what I've done through the project
and see if I've changed anything around.
