2. A line which is used to represent numbers is called
a Number Line.
The values of the numbers on a number line increase gradually towards the right
The difference between two numbers which are next to each
other in a number line is 1.

Draw a number line similar to the whole numbers.
Extend the number line towards the left of 0.
Mark points to the left of 0 leaving the same gap between
those points as the gap marked on the number line initially
and named those points as -1, -2, -3, ….

Negative Numbers.
It is denoted by -1.
The sign “-” is called
The Negative Sign.
The whole numbers to the right of zero are
called Positive Numbers.
The number Zero is neither
positive nor negative.
The Positive integers, the Negative integers and
Zero, all taken together are called the Integers.

6. <Comparison of integers>
The symbols “>” and “<“ are called Inequality Signs.
Larger integer > Smaller integer
Smaller integer < Larger integer
> Five is greater than two
< Two is less than five

Integers between two non-consecutive integers
The integers between -2 and 3 are -1, 0, 1, 2
In this manner integers between two non –
