Oxygen and Blood Deprivation at Birth
A study performed by the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine reveals that the
reduced oxygen supply during delivery could lead to a higher risk of a baby developing
Autism. Further research has revealed that long, difficult labors that last for around 18
hours cause unnatural stress on an infant’s brain and lead to reduced blood flow. As a
baby’s nervous system is vulnerable during labor, it is imperative that he or she gets the
right oxygen supply after birth.

3. Common Injuries during Labor and Delivery
Several things could go wrong in the sensitive hours of birth, but they need not become
reality. Researchers note, however, that birth injuries, such as skull fractures from
vacuum extraction or forceps during delivery, could damage a baby’s nervous system,
making it more vulnerable to cognitive and psychological disorders. Furthermore,
umbilical cord issues or a baby suffering blunt force trauma to the head could cause
internal bleeding in the brain. Lastly, dealing with birth trauma could create an
emergency reaction in an infant’s brain and reorder the cognitive pathways.
Early Signs of a Damaged Nervous System
Infants usually show signs within 24-48 hours if they’ve suffered damage to their
nervous system. These include regular vomiting, an arched back, and unnatural
movements in the legs and arms. As the child gets older, he or she may experience
physical development delays and have trouble crawling, walking, or sitting down.
Autism could have a broad range of symptoms, however, and no two autistic children
will have the same symptoms.
