Background and Company Performance
Industry Challenges
In 2016 Nebula won Frost & Sullivan’s Product Leadership award in the
Telecommunications Management Solutions category for its OneView solution. In the past
year, Nebula has expanded on this offering remarkably, now providing a companion
mobile app, comprehensive bring your own device (BYOD) and company owned,
personally enabled (COPE) management as well as a vendor integration service which
extends their reach across a wider portion of the company’s IT ecosystem.
All three new developments, the mobile app, BYOD and COPE management and
Integration Hub serve to complement and extend the base established by the OneView
telecommunication lifecycle management system. It is thus important to go into more
detail about this solution. OneView was launched in 2016 and is designed to limit the
complexity of the enterprise telecommunications landscape. The solution achieves this by
integrating into the client’s telecommunications ecosystem and presenting detailed usage,
cost and inventory information to the user through an intuitive interface. OneView also
allows users to compare bundles offered by different service providers. The information
provided by the OneView solution is invaluable to customers when attempting to optimise
their telecommunications environment. Management can accurately track expenditure and
ensure that less money is wasted.
The OneView solution has proven itself successful in aiding customers in saving money on
their telecommunication environment. The product typically generates direct cost savings
of around 30% – 40% and indirect cost savings of up to 70%. Here the indirect costs take
the form of inefficiencies resulting from too complex an environment, such as time wasted
in attempting to deal with multiple vendors.
Technology Attributes and Future Business Value
Product Impact:
The OneView solution provides managers with detailed information about what employees
are spending on telecommunications and this allows managers to recharge bundles to
avoid higher out of bundle rates and to limit excessive spend by employees. Nebula’s
OneView Lite app builds on this by providing employees with similar information on their
own telecommunication spend. This is vital as it empowers employees to monitor their
own corporate expenditure which puts them in control and limits the risk of overspend by
creating awareness. The app is able to monitor usage for any device containing a SIM,
across mobile phones, tablets, computers and dongles and can be customized by the user.
It is available through both Google Play and the Apple App Store and is free to any
employee of OneView clients. Furthermore, the app is vendor neutral so employees retain
the flexibility to make use of whichever provider they prefer or monitor a combination of
vendors.

Nebula’s BYOD and COPE management solutions extend the utility of OneView by enabling
employees to self-manage their business spend on personal devices or personal spend on
company owned devices. This process used to be exceedingly inefficient and time
consuming. Employees would have to painstakingly go through their bills each month and
identify which numbers and charges were business related and which were personal.
Nebula’s BYOD solution greatly increases the ease of accomplishing this as it allows
employees to identify certain numbers or data sessions as business related and others are
personal. Charges from contacting business related numbers are automatically forwarded
to the client’s payroll systems, allowing the employee to be compensated for the charges.
Vice versa, the COPE functionality allows for the business to deduct the personal charges
incurred on a company issued device.
The OneView Lite app and BYOD management are particularly important tools in industries
where employees frequently work remotely and can greatly increase efficiency in these
areas. Nebula’s BYOD solution gives employees peace of mind that they will be
compensated for business charges and so limits their incentive to skimp on business
related communications. On the other side of the coin, the visibility that OneView Lite
gives employees into their expenditure can increase efficiency as employees do not worry
unnecessarily that their expenditure is too high.
Whereas OneView Lite and BYOD and COPE solutions enhance the functionality of
OneView, Nebula’s Integration Hub dramatically extends it. In essence, the Integration
Hub extends the functionality of OneView across the entire IT ecosystem. The Integration
Hub allows businesses to integrate outsourced functions, business process functions and
IT on a single platform. This has three key advantages. Firstly, it allows the user a unified
view of the IT ecosystem, including outsourced components. Secondly, the Integration
Hub interacts with Service Request Systems and thus vastly simplifies the procurement of
additional IT services. Thirdly, the Integration Hub allows clients to automate cost
recovery by integrating telecoms expense reports with ERP systems. Nebula’s Integration
Hub extends the successful model upon which OneView was based to a wider portion of
the clients ecosystem.
Scalability:
In the past, infrastructure limitations imposed an important constraint to scalability in
most businesses. The advent of cloud computing has altered the landscape dramatically
however. Businesses no longer have to worry about hosting their applications on their own
infrastructure, which can be expensive and require a lot of effort and skill to manage,
rather they can rent infrastructure as they need it from cloud providers. This is the
approach that Nebula has taken. Nebula is a Microsoft Gold Independent Software Vendor
(ISV) and makes use of Azure infrastructure- and platform-as-a-service to develop and
run their applications. This means that Nebula’s product set is inherently scalable and that
infrastructure will not pose a constraint to the company’s growth.
BEST PRACTICES RESEARCH
© Frost & Sullivan 2017 5 “We Accelerate Growth”
An additional form of scalability is found in the way in which Nebula’s applications are
designed. Nebula makes use of a micro-services architecture to build their applications.
The applications thus consist of various independent software modules, each of which is
responsible for a specific and limited task. The impact of this is that it enables Nebula to
add new functionality to their application without jeopardizing the original functionality.
This would be far more difficult under older architectures.
In addition to being scalable in their own business, Nebula enables scalability in the
client’s business. Through reducing complexity in the client’s telecommunications and IT
environment generally, Nebula makes it possible for clients to use multiple vendors
without having to worry about the complexity of their ecosystems.
Visionary Innovation
As noted above, an important feature of the OneView Lite app is that it is vendor neutral.
Although other apps exist that allow users to monitor their usage, Frost & Sullivan
research suggests that OneView Lite is unique in allowing users to monitor usage across a
range of service providers from a single platform. This reinforces an important trend in
Nebula’s technology offerings; Nebula empowers the customer to choose the product and
provider that best suits their needs without having to worry about vendor lock-in.
Given that Nebula launched the OneView solution just over a year ago, the speed at which
the Integration Hub has been developed and launched is astounding. The addition of this
feature greatly extends Nebula’s scope and brings the control that OneView offers over
the telecommunications environment to the IT environment more generally. Frost &
Sullivan believes that any technology that simplifies the user’s vendor environment will be
valuable in the future, especially given the number of smaller, innovative providers
entering the market. Firms will look to cherry pick the best services from the best
providers and Nebula’s services could let them do this without overcomplicating the
management of their IT ecosystems.
Financial Performance
Nebula believes that OneView Lite and the Integration Hub will be very popular with new
and existing clientele. The company expects that revenue will double over the next two
years following the release of these offerings. The Integration Hub has proven very
popular with clients with large store footprints. All of Nebula’s retail customers, either
have, or are in the process of, implementing the Integration Hub and banking customers
are expected to follow soon after. Frost & Sullivan believes that, given the success of
OneView in the market, Nebula’s growth projection from the Integration Hub and OneView
Lite is realistic.
Nebula’s growth expansion plans also include on-boarding international clients as well as
supporting their local clients’ global expansion. The company predicts that 40% of their
revenue will be generated from their global expansion in the next 18 months. Nebula will

also extend their product integration capabilities by seamlessly integrating Microsoft
technologies, such as PowerBI and Mobile Device Management (MDM), into the OneView
product offering.
Customer Acquisition:
Nebula’s Integration Hub and BYOD and COPE functionality have seen high adoption rates
amongst existing and new OneView clients. The solutions have been particularly well
received in the retail, professional services and business and financial services verticals.
Key to the appeal of the product suite is the ability that it gives to integrate and automate
the functions of various business units as they relate to telecommunications and IT. This is
achieved through the portal providing an up-to-date and holistic view of the
telecommunications and IT ecosystems where it is needed. This information and the
accompanying vendor integration greatly reduce the amount of menial work required to
manage the vendor environment, leaving employees free to focus on more productive
tasks.
Brand Loyalty
The development and release of the Integration Hub to compliment the OneView system
shows that Nebula’s strategy going forward is to extend the core premise of OneView,
namely offering a way to simplify a complex environment, to other areas. Key to creating
this loyalty is the manner in which Nebula’s solutions complement each other. The market
success of the initial OneView solution provides proof to customer of the benefits from
having a simplified and optimized telecommunications environment. Expending to offer
similar solutions for the IT environment generally will build brand loyalty for Nebula as the
market will come to associate the firm with simplifying business generally rather than just
focusing on telecommunications.
Conclusion
Through the release of the Integration Hub, Nebula has extended the reach of its award
winning OneView solution to the wider IT environment. This is very valuable as it gives
clients the freedom of choice. The insight and management that OneView, OneView Lite,
the Integration Hub and Nebula’s BYOD and COPE solutions provide users allows clients to
cherry pick the best services from as many vendors as they like without having to worry
about inefficiencies stemming from too complex and ecosystem.
With its strong overall performance, Nebula has earned Frost & Sullivan’s 2017
Technology Innovation Award.

Significance of Technology Innovation
Ultimately, growth in any organization depends upon finding new ways to excite the
market and upon maintaining a long-term commitment to innovation. At its core,
technology innovation, or any other type of innovation, can only be sustained with
leadership in three key areas: understanding demand, nurturing the brand, and
differentiating from the competition.
Understanding Technology Innovation
Technology innovation begins with a spark of creativity that is systematically pursued,
developed, and commercialized. That spark can result from a successful partnership, a
productive in-house innovation group, or a bright-minded individual. Regardless of the
source, the success of any new technology is ultimately determined by its innovativeness
and its impact on the business as a whole.

Best Practices Award Analysis for Nebula
Decision Support Scorecard
To support its evaluation of best practices across multiple business performance
categories, Frost & Sullivan employs a customized Decision Support Scorecard. This tool
allows our research and consulting teams to objectively analyze performance, according to
the key benchmarking criteria listed in the previous section, and to assign ratings on that
basis. The tool follows a 10-point scale that allows for nuances in performance evaluation.
Ratings guidelines are illustrated below.
RATINGS GUIDELINES
The Decision Support Scorecard is organized by Technology Attributes and Future
Business Value (i.e., these are the overarching categories for all 10 benchmarking criteria;
the definitions for each criterion are provided beneath the scorecard.). The research team
confirms the veracity of this weighted scorecard through sensitivity analysis, which
confirms that small changes to the ratings for a specific criterion do not lead to a
significant change in the overall relative rankings of the companies.

  • 3. BEST PRACTICES RESEARCH © Frost & Sullivan 2017 3 “We Accelerate Growth” Background and Company Performance Industry Challenges In 2016 Nebula won Frost & Sullivan’s Product Leadership award in the Telecommunications Management Solutions category for its OneView solution. In the past year, Nebula has expanded on this offering remarkably, now providing a companion mobile app, comprehensive bring your own device (BYOD) and company owned, personally enabled (COPE) management as well as a vendor integration service which extends their reach across a wider portion of the company’s IT ecosystem. All three new developments, the mobile app, BYOD and COPE management and Integration Hub serve to complement and extend the base established by the OneView telecommunication lifecycle management system. It is thus important to go into more detail about this solution. OneView was launched in 2016 and is designed to limit the complexity of the enterprise telecommunications landscape. The solution achieves this by integrating into the client’s telecommunications ecosystem and presenting detailed usage, cost and inventory information to the user through an intuitive interface. OneView also allows users to compare bundles offered by different service providers. The information provided by the OneView solution is invaluable to customers when attempting to optimise their telecommunications environment. Management can accurately track expenditure and ensure that less money is wasted. The OneView solution has proven itself successful in aiding customers in saving money on their telecommunication environment. The product typically generates direct cost savings of around 30% – 40% and indirect cost savings of up to 70%. Here the indirect costs take the form of inefficiencies resulting from too complex an environment, such as time wasted in attempting to deal with multiple vendors. Technology Attributes and Future Business Value Product Impact: The OneView solution provides managers with detailed information about what employees are spending on telecommunications and this allows managers to recharge bundles to avoid higher out of bundle rates and to limit excessive spend by employees. Nebula’s OneView Lite app builds on this by providing employees with similar information on their own telecommunication spend. This is vital as it empowers employees to monitor their own corporate expenditure which puts them in control and limits the risk of overspend by creating awareness. The app is able to monitor usage for any device containing a SIM, across mobile phones, tablets, computers and dongles and can be customized by the user. It is available through both Google Play and the Apple App Store and is free to any employee of OneView clients. Furthermore, the app is vendor neutral so employees retain the flexibility to make use of whichever provider they prefer or monitor a combination of vendors.
  • 4. BEST PRACTICES RESEARCH © Frost & Sullivan 2017 4 “We Accelerate Growth” Nebula’s BYOD and COPE management solutions extend the utility of OneView by enabling employees to self-manage their business spend on personal devices or personal spend on company owned devices. This process used to be exceedingly inefficient and time consuming. Employees would have to painstakingly go through their bills each month and identify which numbers and charges were business related and which were personal. Nebula’s BYOD solution greatly increases the ease of accomplishing this as it allows employees to identify certain numbers or data sessions as business related and others are personal. Charges from contacting business related numbers are automatically forwarded to the client’s payroll systems, allowing the employee to be compensated for the charges. Vice versa, the COPE functionality allows for the business to deduct the personal charges incurred on a company issued device. The OneView Lite app and BYOD management are particularly important tools in industries where employees frequently work remotely and can greatly increase efficiency in these areas. Nebula’s BYOD solution gives employees peace of mind that they will be compensated for business charges and so limits their incentive to skimp on business related communications. On the other side of the coin, the visibility that OneView Lite gives employees into their expenditure can increase efficiency as employees do not worry unnecessarily that their expenditure is too high. Whereas OneView Lite and BYOD and COPE solutions enhance the functionality of OneView, Nebula’s Integration Hub dramatically extends it. In essence, the Integration Hub extends the functionality of OneView across the entire IT ecosystem. The Integration Hub allows businesses to integrate outsourced functions, business process functions and IT on a single platform. This has three key advantages. Firstly, it allows the user a unified view of the IT ecosystem, including outsourced components. Secondly, the Integration Hub interacts with Service Request Systems and thus vastly simplifies the procurement of additional IT services. Thirdly, the Integration Hub allows clients to automate cost recovery by integrating telecoms expense reports with ERP systems. Nebula’s Integration Hub extends the successful model upon which OneView was based to a wider portion of the clients ecosystem. Scalability: In the past, infrastructure limitations imposed an important constraint to scalability in most businesses. The advent of cloud computing has altered the landscape dramatically however. Businesses no longer have to worry about hosting their applications on their own infrastructure, which can be expensive and require a lot of effort and skill to manage, rather they can rent infrastructure as they need it from cloud providers. This is the approach that Nebula has taken. Nebula is a Microsoft Gold Independent Software Vendor (ISV) and makes use of Azure infrastructure- and platform-as-a-service to develop and run their applications. This means that Nebula’s product set is inherently scalable and that infrastructure will not pose a constraint to the company’s growth.
  • 5. BEST PRACTICES RESEARCH © Frost & Sullivan 2017 5 “We Accelerate Growth” An additional form of scalability is found in the way in which Nebula’s applications are designed. Nebula makes use of a micro-services architecture to build their applications. The applications thus consist of various independent software modules, each of which is responsible for a specific and limited task. The impact of this is that it enables Nebula to add new functionality to their application without jeopardizing the original functionality. This would be far more difficult under older architectures. In addition to being scalable in their own business, Nebula enables scalability in the client’s business. Through reducing complexity in the client’s telecommunications and IT environment generally, Nebula makes it possible for clients to use multiple vendors without having to worry about the complexity of their ecosystems. Visionary Innovation As noted above, an important feature of the OneView Lite app is that it is vendor neutral. Although other apps exist that allow users to monitor their usage, Frost & Sullivan research suggests that OneView Lite is unique in allowing users to monitor usage across a range of service providers from a single platform. This reinforces an important trend in Nebula’s technology offerings; Nebula empowers the customer to choose the product and provider that best suits their needs without having to worry about vendor lock-in. Given that Nebula launched the OneView solution just over a year ago, the speed at which the Integration Hub has been developed and launched is astounding. The addition of this feature greatly extends Nebula’s scope and brings the control that OneView offers over the telecommunications environment to the IT environment more generally. Frost & Sullivan believes that any technology that simplifies the user’s vendor environment will be valuable in the future, especially given the number of smaller, innovative providers entering the market. Firms will look to cherry pick the best services from the best providers and Nebula’s services could let them do this without overcomplicating the management of their IT ecosystems. Financial Performance Nebula believes that OneView Lite and the Integration Hub will be very popular with new and existing clientele. The company expects that revenue will double over the next two years following the release of these offerings. The Integration Hub has proven very popular with clients with large store footprints. All of Nebula’s retail customers, either have, or are in the process of, implementing the Integration Hub and banking customers are expected to follow soon after. Frost & Sullivan believes that, given the success of OneView in the market, Nebula’s growth projection from the Integration Hub and OneView Lite is realistic. Nebula’s growth expansion plans also include on-boarding international clients as well as supporting their local clients’ global expansion. The company predicts that 40% of their revenue will be generated from their global expansion in the next 18 months. Nebula will
  • 6. BEST PRACTICES RESEARCH © Frost & Sullivan 2017 6 “We Accelerate Growth” also extend their product integration capabilities by seamlessly integrating Microsoft technologies, such as PowerBI and Mobile Device Management (MDM), into the OneView product offering. Customer Acquisition: Nebula’s Integration Hub and BYOD and COPE functionality have seen high adoption rates amongst existing and new OneView clients. The solutions have been particularly well received in the retail, professional services and business and financial services verticals. Key to the appeal of the product suite is the ability that it gives to integrate and automate the functions of various business units as they relate to telecommunications and IT. This is achieved through the portal providing an up-to-date and holistic view of the telecommunications and IT ecosystems where it is needed. This information and the accompanying vendor integration greatly reduce the amount of menial work required to manage the vendor environment, leaving employees free to focus on more productive tasks. Brand Loyalty The development and release of the Integration Hub to compliment the OneView system shows that Nebula’s strategy going forward is to extend the core premise of OneView, namely offering a way to simplify a complex environment, to other areas. Key to creating this loyalty is the manner in which Nebula’s solutions complement each other. The market success of the initial OneView solution provides proof to customer of the benefits from having a simplified and optimized telecommunications environment. Expending to offer similar solutions for the IT environment generally will build brand loyalty for Nebula as the market will come to associate the firm with simplifying business generally rather than just focusing on telecommunications. Conclusion Through the release of the Integration Hub, Nebula has extended the reach of its award winning OneView solution to the wider IT environment. This is very valuable as it gives clients the freedom of choice. The insight and management that OneView, OneView Lite, the Integration Hub and Nebula’s BYOD and COPE solutions provide users allows clients to cherry pick the best services from as many vendors as they like without having to worry about inefficiencies stemming from too complex and ecosystem. With its strong overall performance, Nebula has earned Frost & Sullivan’s 2017 Technology Innovation Award.
  • 7. BEST PRACTICES RESEARCH © Frost & Sullivan 2017 7 “We Accelerate Growth” Significance of Technology Innovation Ultimately, growth in any organization depends upon finding new ways to excite the market and upon maintaining a long-term commitment to innovation. At its core, technology innovation, or any other type of innovation, can only be sustained with leadership in three key areas: understanding demand, nurturing the brand, and differentiating from the competition. Understanding Technology Innovation Technology innovation begins with a spark of creativity that is systematically pursued, developed, and commercialized. That spark can result from a successful partnership, a productive in-house innovation group, or a bright-minded individual. Regardless of the source, the success of any new technology is ultimately determined by its innovativeness and its impact on the business as a whole.
  • 8. BEST PRACTICES RESEARCH © Frost & Sullivan 2017 8 “We Accelerate Growth” Key Benchmarking Criteria For the Technology Innovation Award, Frost & Sullivan analysts independently evaluated two key factors—Technology Attributes and Future Business Value—according to the criteria identified below.
