You have to absorb what you see around you,
what exists on the land, and then use that knowledge
along with contemporary thinking to interpret what you see."

The Skyline
The Mount Vernon neighborhood has been recently
in need of residential mixed use buildings, and The
Skyline is the only solution to fill that void. Three
levels of residential living spaces incorporated
with an art gallery and coffee shop on the main
two levels leave the visitor and residents with
a taste of mid-century modern architecture in
an urban setting. The patterned cladding exterior
of the building gives “The Skyline” it’s own sense
of character in the busy North Charles street-
scape, while the wooden pattern wrapping the
art gallery speaks to the street in it’s own waY.

itan area whom want to receive the "baltimore row-home" experience with a
modern and sustainable twist. while natural daylight thru the skylight on both
floors enhance the buildings energy use, large balconies to the north and south
inspire the residents to engage with the rest of the community.

10. REVITALIZING A
FLOURISHING
COMMUNITY
The vision of Langley Square was to
provide safe and attractive spaces,
while retaining existing street net-
works where possible, and enhancing
the street-scape with new plantings
across the site. In addition, the site
will provide an attractive perfor-
mance square and green communal
space at the heart of the scheme.
The various parks in the
community and the surrounding
neighborhood form and accent the
pedestrian pathway. The design
strategy was intended to provide
a place where the families of the
community can lay down roots, and
over time grow without he need to
move and break community links.

REVIVING
By: Claude Langley Jr.
By inheriting an existing design condition, students were tasked with one of two options; to ren-
ovate the existing recreation center, or to reinvent a new and revitalized greenmount recreation
center. The design proposal being presented today is a New Revitalized Recreation Center. After
analyzing the site and the surrounding neighborhood, three important aspects were essential
in my new design proposal; an eye-catching facade, functional spaces with useful activities to
all ages in all seasons, and enough space for the ENTIRE community to come and experience
the recreation center.
