The 22nd annual Evening Under the Stars gala to
benefit AIDS Assistance Program of Palm Springs
(AAP) will feature an incomparable performance
by music legend Darlene Love, followed by dancing
to Nightshift – The Ultimate Dance Band. The
event, considered by many to be the unofficial
finale of the desert social season, will take place
Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 5:30 PM at the O’Donnell
Golf Club.
Through the years, Darlene Love has captivated
audiences worldwide with her warm, gracious
stage presence and sensational performances. It’s
no wonder The New York Times raves: “Darlene
Love’s thunderbolt voice is as embedded in the
history of rock and roll as Eric Clapton’s guitar
or Bob Dylan’s lyrics.” Since the early sixties, as
part of Phil Spector’s ‘wall of sound’ hit factory,
this great lady has done it all...from major motion
pictures like the highly successful “Lethal Weapon”
series to Broadway hits like “Hairspray” and
“Grease.” She even starred as herself in “Leader
Of The Pack,” credited as Broadway’s first ‘jukebox
musical.’
Love’s background vocals for The Blossoms, The
Crystals, The Righteous Brothers, Dionne Warwick,
Marvin Gaye, and Elvis Presley (to name but a few)
set the stage for her emergence as a star in her own
right. Her Billboard hits include: “He’s A Rebel,”
“Da Doo Ron Ron,” “Wait ‘Til My Bobby Gets
Home,” and “He’s Sure the Boy I Love.” In 2011,
Love received one of her industry’s highest awards
when Better Midler inducted her into the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame.
The Oprah Winfrey Network announced last
August that it is producing a biopic for the big
screen based on Love’s life, starring Toni Braxton.
Another recent film in which Love is prominently
featured – “Twenty Feet from Stardom” – earned
Love a Grammy Award and also landed the
Academy Award for Best Documentary in 2014.
In addition to exciting entertainment and
dancing, gala festivities will also include refreshing
cocktails, fabulous live and silent auctions,
delectable cuisine, and inspiring honorees. Tickets
for the benefit are $395 and $500 per person, and
individual VIP seats are still available. Please call

was recently named
‘Best Annual Charity
Event’ in Coachella Valley
Independent’s inaugural ‘Best of
Coachella Valley’ reader’s poll, and AAP was
a finalist in the ‘Best Charity’ category in Desert
Magazine’s ‘Best of the Valley’ competition. In
conjunction with the organization’s Jeannette
Rockefeller Angel Program, Evening Under the
Stars provides the majority of funding for AAP’s
food voucher program for low-income residents of
the Palm Springs area living with HIV/AIDS. The
organization receives no state or federal support.
AAP is also raffling off a 2015 Audi A3 Cabriolet
from Desert European Motorcars’ Audi Rancho
Mirage, and the winner will be announced at its
Evening Under the Stars gala. A total of only 400
raffle tickets will be sold at $300 each or four for
$1,000, and are available for purchase by calling
760-325-8481. Organizers will pull one winning
ticket on Saturday, May 9. Rules and restrictions
