Project Title : 1 Malaysia Language Exchange (1MLE)
Target Group : All Malaysians
(Malay, Indian, Chinese, other ethnic groups such as Sarawak
and Sabah)

Problem Statement :
 Some of Malaysians do not know how to converse in National language
which is Bahasa Malaysia.
 Our Bumiputera (Malay & etc.) are not exposed to other main Malaysian
Languages (Tamil& Mandarin) because of current education system in
Malaysia.
 Our government school system is divided into three main races which are
Sekolah Kebangsaan, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina and Sekolah Jenis
Kebangsaan Tamil, this kind of school (name) separation by different races
can make our citizen feel separated by name or types of school and this
phenomena can cause a directing racist thinking .
 This kind of school system can make to the racist mentality and it can course
a lack of communication between citizens and will block the
communication between each other and at the same time causing least
nationalism.
 A lack of communication will create a lack of a sense of responsibility to
each other even living in one country.
Objectives : Motto “United by Language Exchange”
 To encourage Malaysians to learn the four main language in Malaysia which
is Bahasa Melayu, Mandarin, Tamil and English.
 To encourage Malaysians to interact more with each other and will improve
relationship through language exchange and create more unity.
 To encourage Malaysians to share more knowledge with each other for
example knowledge of medicine, food, education system etc.
Vision & Mission :
 Malaysians embracing each other culture and languages,
 Ministry of Education Malaysia to implement the teaching of these four main
languages in all school as compulsory subject.

Introduction
The Language exchange program is a resource for everyone involved in a multi
Malaysian language. A language exchange is an informal way for people to use
or improve their language skills, be they newly or less recently acquired. In addition
to encouraging interrelation between people of different cultures, races and
nationalities, such exchanges contribute to broadening participants’ perception of
Malaysians and even world. This proposal is to explain and to provide those taking
part in a language exchange program with a range of ideas, guidelines and
suggestions, so that we can conduct together program and conversation sessions
and get the greatest possible linguistic, cultural and personal also to country
benefit. The proposal explains what a 1Malaysian Language Exchange Program is,
covering matters such as activities, future planing, target participants, benefits,
meet up session structure, milestone, venue and propose to Malaysia Goverment
as one of compulsory program to every school, IPTA, IPTS and publics. This proposal
also offering for thought on the similarities and contrasts between ways of life and
approaches to organisation in different cultures and races.
What Is A Language Exchange?
Description
• A language exchange is a medium for practical language use. It involves two
people who speak different languages getting together for a pre-established
number of sessions so that each of them can practise using the other’s language.
• Language exchange sessions can be face-to-face or virtual, or a combination of
both.
• Language exchanges complement formal language learning. They mainly serve
for putting oral language skills into practice.
• Additionally, language exchanges constitute a good opportunity to experience
and gain an insight into aspects of other cultures.
• Language exchanges are currently available in Malaysia through various
practical, linguistic reception and cultural exchange programmes (tandems,
language volunteer initiatives, language partnership systems, conversation groups,
etc.).
Project Impact on Malaysia Society
Living in a society of multilingual and multicultural which comprises many ethnic
groups, as a Malaysian, we have chances to learn different languages. With this
program, public will be exposed to advantages become a multilingual. We get to
learn different languages and understand culture among multiple ethnic groups in
Malaysia.
Values added to the society:
 Unity: Fostering national unity and ethnic harmony among various ethnic
communities in the society through language exchange.
 New Skills: We learn new language which is practical to be used for our
daily activities in our community.
 Cultural Exchange: Learning language is an effective way to learn other’s
culture, thus we understand different culture while interacts with native
speakers.
 Networking: That is not only fun, but enhance personal growth &
development by connected to one another.
 Relationship: Form friendships and improve race relations.
Individual/Personal Impact

What We Have Done So Far
We have created Instagram page “MalaysiaLanguageExchange”. This instagram
page is to conduct a simple way of language learning & exchange program. It’s
an initiative to spread the movement and awareness towards public, to engage
with the crowd, in order to create buzz before we go for the other stage such as
public meet up session of language exchange.
We start small by getting friends and families around us to support this movement
and monitor the responses. Videos of maximum 15 seconds to be posted with
subtitle in Instagram, mainly to teach languages in Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese
Mandarin and Tamil, then posted with hastag of #1MLE
#1MalaysiaLanguageExchange. After that, we encourage public to challenge
other friends to do the same.
The team will post language videos in regular basis in order to teach a word (or a
phrase) a day, of any Malaysian language (Malay, English, Mandarin, Tamil).
We approach people in different categories such as students, youths, working
adults and social leaders to share about our ideas of language exchange and
encourage them to participate by taking videos and teaching their language.
Future Planning
 Conduct Malaysian Language Exchange’s public meetup. People will learn
language from each other in an informal way for uses in daily occasions. For
example, a Malay native speaker who is learning Mandarin will do a
language exchange with a Chinese native speaker who is learning Bahasa
Malaysia.
 Approach MINISTRY OF EDUCATION MALAYSIA to implement the teaching of
these four languages in all school as compulsory subject.
 Provide Guide Line (Language exchange Support Guide) to make sure this
programe is beneficial to every Malaysian.
 Provide a 1 Malaysian Language Exchange TOOLKIT (apps from playstore in
gadget-handphone/tablet/pc/laptop) as a medium to set meet up session
whether virtual or face to face session or learn by chats group. The toolkit
provide Malaysia Language dictionary, grammar correction and virtual
teachers as a general guide to the conversation in every Malaysia
Languages.
 Conduct a public course or class every week by hiring multilanguages
speakers or teachers for every main Malaysia Languages.
5 SIMPLE STEP TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM

By measuring our Instagram marketing success:
 Amount of Instagram followers.
 Number of Likes a post at our official FB and FB pages to know the
response of people about the contents.
 Number of Repost and hastags from who share our post.
 Number of people response to our programme by posting videos about
language.
 Evaluate our programme by people’s comments and improve
accordingly.
 Collect data by calculate registration/sign up through our official website
as a members of 1 Malaysian Language Exchange Program (1MLEP).
 Collect data by calculate the users that use 1MLEP Toolkit to setting their
meetup (virtual/face2face)session.
 Collect data by prepare the Registration form to participants that come
for 1MLEP courses or who willing to attend our 1MLE tuition classes.
 Evaluate any request/suggestion/opinion through Social Media
comments, Oficial Email and Blogs .
 Prepare feedback/questionnaire form in every activities.

Promotion Plans
 Approach popular Instagramers to record videos about language exchange,
to increase chances of 1MLE getting notice in social media platform.
 Conduct contests to encourage people to create language videos in creative
way, for people who can perform the most creative idea walks away with
prizes.
 Distribute brochures or flyers which is appropriately informative and catchy.
 Publish 1 MLEP ideas on other social media platform such as Official Facebook
Pages, Twitter, Official Website, Blogs and Instagram.
Project Milestone (Cluster 4 Presentation)
Stage 1: Initiating (1st to 2nd week)
 Ideas brainstorming. Identify project. Define project’s objective, goal, target
group and etc.
 Meet project advisor for guidance.
Stage 2: Planning (3rd to 4th week)
 Develop detailed plans and resources required.
 Identify project timeframe. Tasks and scope of works are assigned to team
members accordingly.
 Suggest for more ideas and prepare plan accordingly. Discuss deadline of
different tasks.
Stage 3: Executing (3rd to 9th week)
 Carry out actions: approach people to take videos to be uploaded onto
Instagram. Share and spread the movement on social media. Encourage
people to support the ideas of 1 Malaysia Language Exchange.
 Weekly meeting: to address issues, problem solving, progress discussion and seek
for constantly improvement.
 Takes videos as a group to promote the ideas of social project - 1 Malaysia
Language Exchange.
 Final presentation and story board.
Stage 4: Future Plan
 Conduct Language Exchange’s public meetup. People will learn language from
each other in an informal way for uses in daily occasions. For example, a Malay
native speaker who is learning Chinese will do a language exchange with a
Chinese native speaker who is learning Bahasa Malaysia.
 Create an ongoing movement in our community.

Future Planning Activities
1. BOOTH SHOWCASE:
Find program/events especially at School/IPTA/IPTS or any other related
program or event that suitable with our objective and targeted
audience/participants to promote our program. Do a few activities during the
show case such as:
 Games to match languages using flash card
 Interview people about their interest to learn other language. Can refer 3
question:
a) What Language do you want to learn?
b) What stop you to learn that language?
c) What if we offer a platform for you to learn new language? It’s free. You
don’t have to attend courses. You can learn anytime.
 Language Video Lesson
Ask them to teach their languages, we help to take videos in front of
banner. For whom upload their videos on the spot, will be given prize such as
tag, candies and chocolates.
 Prepare doll gift bags(pen, tags, brochure, pamphlet, guideline book,
candies) to whom that participated in games and teach their native
language (language video lesson)
 Show our team language videos on laptop to encourage people to join our
booths activities.
 Give out brochures, pamphlets or Public Meet up session Guide Books
 Selfie or Wefie with our various languages lesson cards and then post to their
social media with hash tag: #1MalaysiaLanguageExchangeMemories
2. CREATIVE VIDEO CONTEST
 Conduct contests to encourage people to create people to create
language videos for people who can perform the most creative idea
walks away with prizes.
 It’s a step to increase chances of 1 Malaysia Language Exchange
Program (1MLEP) get noticed at social media platform.
3. ORGANIZE MEET UP SESSION
 Language Exchange meet – up session, preferable organized outdoor as
picnic gathering.
 Public get opportunity to have face-to-face language exchange. They will
be matched with native speakers, according to the language they wish to
learn from each other. Learning can be fun! It’s an informal way to learn
new language.
 We provide assistant and guideline brochure (rules) to every public
partners/participants which can help and guide them to do language
learning meet up session. By this way, we get to empower them and
encourage personal development.
4. CULTURAL DIVERSITY FROM OUR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM
The culture of Malaysia draws on the varied cultures of different people in
Malaysia, in term of cuisine, clothing, architecture, music festival and etc.
People can learn language while exploring different culture. This can be done
by making videos to show different cultural practice and then share it on our
social media platform (FB pages, Twitter, Instagram and You Tube).
5. SET UP/ ORGANIZE PUBLIC COURSE
Provide four main Malaysian languages training course (Malay, English, Tamil
and Mandarin). Provide Languages Educational Speakers and Teachers

6. TUITION CLASS
We provide job opportunities for people who have passion to offer language
lessons. By this way, we get to empower them and encourage personal
development.

can teach their native language.

can exchange language without meeting with each other.

Writing
Writing, the use of symbols to represent a language, is such an incredible
achievement for humankind that its emergence marks the boundary between
prehistory and history. At present, over 200 writing systems are known worldwide.
The most commonly used, by some distance, is the Latin script, followed by the
Cyrillic and Arabic scripts. Some are genuinely complex, as is the case of the
Japanese writing system, which is based on ideograms (it is necessary to know at
least 2,000 of them to be able to read the press properly, for example). Systems
that have emerged more recently include one that is based on abbreviation and
has been referred to as teenagers’ Esperanto. It is the SMS writing system, or
chatspeak, which has become one of youngsters’ main hallmarks over the last
decade, as well as a real acid test for language scholars.

Summary
The first rationale for including 1MLEP is generally the provision of an authentic
speaking model, and the opportunity to create a “need-to-speak” context for
spoken interaction.A real-life natural conversation is a one-to-one exchange of
ideas to relate experiences, information, needs, and express opinions. Publics are
keen to include in conversation genuine details from their own lives, words or
phrases outside the standard vocabulary. Language learning with the 1MLEP
allows an authentic conversation to take place with an individual, with relevant
content and idiom, as a genuine exchange of personal information. 1MLEP is a
valuable program to all Malaysians, of accurate pronunciation, grammar, idiom,
and contemporary context usage. Culture includes the language, customs,
values, relationships and behaviours of a society. Malaysian today, as part of their
linguistic competence, need a deeper understanding of life in the target country.
They need to be able to explain the invisible cultural values and etiquette which lie
hidden in its language. 1MLEP is a first program of the cultural life of the target
language, which is able to bring that knowledge to the publics through personal
narrative and anecdote in a vivid and personally engaging way. The sharing of
their perceptions of life in their own country provides numerous opportunities for
intercultural enquiry learning in Malaysia.

1MALAYSIA LANGUAGE EXCHANGE PROGRAM (1MLEP)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY PROJECT DETAILS Project Title : 1 Malaysia Language Exchange (1MLE) Target Group : All Malaysians (Malay, Indian, Chinese, other ethnic groups such as Sarawak and Sabah) Logistics Venue : N/A Date : On-going movement Problem Statement :  Some of Malaysians do not know how to converse in National language which is Bahasa Malaysia.  Our Bumiputera (Malay & etc.) are not exposed to other main Malaysian Languages (Tamil& Mandarin) because of current education system in Malaysia.  Our government school system is divided into three main races which are Sekolah Kebangsaan, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil, this kind of school (name) separation by different races can make our citizen feel separated by name or types of school and this phenomena can cause a directing racist thinking .  This kind of school system can make to the racist mentality and it can course a lack of communication between citizens and will block the communication between each other and at the same time causing least nationalism.  A lack of communication will create a lack of a sense of responsibility to each other even living in one country. Objectives : Motto “United by Language Exchange”  To encourage Malaysians to learn the four main language in Malaysia which is Bahasa Melayu, Mandarin, Tamil and English.  To encourage Malaysians to interact more with each other and will improve relationship through language exchange and create more unity.  To encourage Malaysians to share more knowledge with each other for example knowledge of medicine, food, education system etc.

Vision & Mission :  Malaysians embracing each other culture and languages,  Ministry of Education Malaysia to implement the teaching of these four main languages in all school as compulsory subject.   • 4. 2) PROJECT SECRETARY  Prepare proposal  Design logo.  Design brochure about 1 Malaysia Language Exchange Program.  Record and upload videos.  Approach publics about 1 Malaysia Language Exchange Program. 3) PROJECT MARKETING  Manage Instagram and upload language videos in regular basis.  Review videos posted by public and repost in 1MLEP Instagram with hastag.  Generate creative ideas of Instagram marketing and monitor the response time to time.  Approach teenagers and popular instagramers about language exchange, record and upload videos. 4) PROJECT FINANCIAL REPORT  Calculate all expenses until presentation day  Suggest any material or to be use during opening booth and presentation day 5) PROJECT DOCUMENTATION  Collect photos, evidence, and beneficiary testimonial of project such as meetings.  To approach social leaders about language exchange, record and upload videos.   • 5. Introduction The Language exchange program is a resource for everyone involved in a multi Malaysian language. A language exchange is an informal way for people to use or improve their language skills, be they newly or less recently acquired. In addition to encouraging interrelation between people of different cultures, races and nationalities, such exchanges contribute to broadening participants’ perception of Malaysians and even world. This proposal is to explain and to provide those taking part in a language exchange program with a range of ideas, guidelines and suggestions, so that we can conduct together program and conversation sessions and get the greatest possible linguistic, cultural and personal also to country benefit. The proposal explains what a 1Malaysian Language Exchange Program is, covering matters such as activities, future planing, target participants, benefits, meet up session structure, milestone, venue and propose to Malaysia Goverment as one of compulsory program to every school, IPTA, IPTS and publics. This proposal also offering for thought on the similarities and contrasts between ways of life and approaches to organisation in different cultures and races.
  • 6. What Is A Language Exchange? Description • A language exchange is a medium for practical language use. It involves two people who speak different languages getting together for a pre-established number of sessions so that each of them can practise using the other’s language. • Language exchange sessions can be face-to-face or virtual, or a combination of both. • Language exchanges complement formal language learning. They mainly serve for putting oral language skills into practice. • Additionally, language exchanges constitute a good opportunity to experience and gain an insight into aspects of other cultures. • Language exchanges are currently available in Malaysia through various practical, linguistic reception and cultural exchange programmes (tandems, language volunteer initiatives, language partnership systems, conversation groups, etc.). Project Impact on Malaysia Society Living in a society of multilingual and multicultural which comprises many ethnic groups, as a Malaysian, we have chances to learn different languages. With this program, public will be exposed to advantages become a multilingual. We get to learn different languages and understand culture among multiple ethnic groups in Malaysia. Values added to the society:  Unity: Fostering national unity and ethnic harmony among various ethnic communities in the society through language exchange.  New Skills: We learn new language which is practical to be used for our daily activities in our community.  Cultural Exchange: Learning language is an effective way to learn other’s culture, thus we understand different culture while interacts with native speakers.  Networking: That is not only fun, but enhance personal growth & development by connected to one another.  Relationship: Form friendships and improve race relations.
  • 7. Individual/Personal Impact 1. Speak with new friends in their mother tongue to bring me closer to them by understand their culture, background and traditions 2. Explore own city's ethnic neighbourhood's 3. Encourages and a doorway to respect other new cultures and its world 4. It’s easy way to make new friends and to better understand my neighbours and colleagues 5. Learn how and why to be more sensitive with business contacts who will appreciate our effort 6. Can communicate easily and quickly in the daily routine for making business transactions with different races in Malaysia What We Have Done So Far We have created Instagram page “MalaysiaLanguageExchange”. This instagram page is to conduct a simple way of language learning & exchange program. It’s an initiative to spread the movement and awareness towards public, to engage with the crowd, in order to create buzz before we go for the other stage such as public meet up session of language exchange. We start small by getting friends and families around us to support this movement and monitor the responses. Videos of maximum 15 seconds to be posted with subtitle in Instagram, mainly to teach languages in Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese Mandarin and Tamil, then posted with hastag of #1MLE #1MalaysiaLanguageExchange. After that, we encourage public to challenge other friends to do the same. The team will post language videos in regular basis in order to teach a word (or a phrase) a day, of any Malaysian language (Malay, English, Mandarin, Tamil). We approach people in different categories such as students, youths, working adults and social leaders to share about our ideas of language exchange and encourage them to participate by taking videos and teaching their language.
  • 8. Future Planning  Conduct Malaysian Language Exchange’s public meetup. People will learn language from each other in an informal way for uses in daily occasions. For example, a Malay native speaker who is learning Mandarin will do a language exchange with a Chinese native speaker who is learning Bahasa Malaysia.  Approach MINISTRY OF EDUCATION MALAYSIA to implement the teaching of these four languages in all school as compulsory subject.  Provide Guide Line (Language exchange Support Guide) to make sure this programe is beneficial to every Malaysian.  Provide a 1 Malaysian Language Exchange TOOLKIT (apps from playstore in gadget-handphone/tablet/pc/laptop) as a medium to set meet up session whether virtual or face to face session or learn by chats group. The toolkit provide Malaysia Language dictionary, grammar correction and virtual teachers as a general guide to the conversation in every Malaysia Languages.  Conduct a public course or class every week by hiring multilanguages speakers or teachers for every main Malaysia Languages. 5 SIMPLE STEP TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM

Project Success Measures / KPIs By measuring our Instagram marketing success:  Amount of Instagram followers.  Number of Likes a post at our official FB and FB pages to know the response of people about the contents.  Number of Repost and hastags from who share our post.  Number of people response to our programme by posting videos about language.  Evaluate our programme by people’s comments and improve accordingly.  Collect data by calculate registration/sign up through our official website as a members of 1 Malaysian Language Exchange Program (1MLEP).  Collect data by calculate the users that use 1MLEP Toolkit to setting their meetup (virtual/face2face)session.  Collect data by prepare the Registration form to participants that come for 1MLEP courses or who willing to attend our 1MLE tuition classes.  Evaluate any request/suggestion/opinion through Social Media comments, Oficial Email and Blogs .  Prepare feedback/questionnaire form in every activities.   • 11. Project Milestone (Cluster 4 Presentation) Stage 1: Initiating (1st to 2nd week)  Ideas brainstorming. Identify project. Define project’s objective, goal, target group and etc.  Meet project advisor for guidance. Stage 2: Planning (3rd to 4th week)  Develop detailed plans and resources required.  Identify project timeframe. Tasks and scope of works are assigned to team members accordingly.  Suggest for more ideas and prepare plan accordingly. Discuss deadline of different tasks. Stage 3: Executing (3rd to 9th week)  Carry out actions: approach people to take videos to be uploaded onto Instagram. Share and spread the movement on social media. Encourage people to support the ideas of 1 Malaysia Language Exchange.  Weekly meeting: to address issues, problem solving, progress discussion and seek for constantly improvement.  Takes videos as a group to promote the ideas of social project - 1 Malaysia Language Exchange.  Final presentation and story board.
  • 12. Stage 4: Future Plan  Conduct Language Exchange’s public meetup. People will learn language from each other in an informal way for uses in daily occasions. For example, a Malay native speaker who is learning Chinese will do a language exchange with a Chinese native speaker who is learning Bahasa Malaysia.  Create an ongoing movement in our community.   • 19. Future Planning Activities 1. BOOTH SHOWCASE: Find program/events especially at School/IPTA/IPTS or any other related program or event that suitable with our objective and targeted audience/participants to promote our program. Do a few activities during the show case such as:  Games to match languages using flash card  Interview people about their interest to learn other language. Can refer 3 question: a) What Language do you want to learn? b) What stop you to learn that language? c) What if we offer a platform for you to learn new language? It’s free. You don’t have to attend courses. You can learn anytime.  Language Video Lesson Ask them to teach their languages, we help to take videos in front of banner. For whom upload their videos on the spot, will be given prize such as tag, candies and chocolates.  Prepare doll gift bags(pen, tags, brochure, pamphlet, guideline book, candies) to whom that participated in games and teach their native language (language video lesson)

ORGANIZE MEET UP SESSION  Language Exchange meet – up session, preferable organized outdoor as picnic gathering.
  • 21.  Public get opportunity to have face-to-face language exchange. They will be matched with native speakers, according to the language they wish to learn from each other. Learning can be fun! It’s an informal way to learn new language.  We provide assistant and guideline brochure (rules) to every public partners/participants which can help and guide them to do language learning meet up session. By this way, we get to empower them and encourage personal development. 4. CULTURAL DIVERSITY FROM OUR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM The culture of Malaysia draws on the varied cultures of different people in Malaysia, in term of cuisine, clothing, architecture, music festival and etc. People can learn language while exploring different culture. This can be done by making videos to show different cultural practice and then share it on our social media platform (FB pages, Twitter, Instagram and You Tube). 5. SET UP/ ORGANIZE PUBLIC COURSE Provide four main Malaysian languages training course (Malay, English, Tamil and Mandarin). Provide Languages Educational Speakers and Teachers Syllabus:  Oral  Listening  Writing 6. TUITION CLASS We provide job opportunities for people who have passion to offer language lessons. By this way, we get to empower them and encourage personal development.  Hiring university students or underprivileged group such as single mother who can teach their native language. 7. Languages Facts Language  How many speakers does your language have?  What characteristic sounds does it have?  Which language family does it belong to?  What does it represent for the people of your country?  Are any other languages spoken there? Writing Writing, the use of symbols to represent a language, is such an incredible achievement for humankind that its emergence marks the boundary between prehistory and history. At present, over 200 writing systems are known worldwide. The most commonly used, by some distance, is the Latin script, followed by the Cyrillic and Arabic scripts. Some are genuinely complex, as is the case of the Japanese writing system, which is based on ideograms (it is necessary to know at least 2,000 of them to be able to read the press properly, for example). Systems that have emerged more recently include one that is based on abbreviation and has been referred to as teenagers’ Esperanto. It is the SMS writing system, or chatspeak, which has become one of youngsters’ main hallmarks over the last decade, as well as a real acid test for language scholars. Summary The first rationale for including 1MLEP is generally the provision of an authentic speaking model, and the opportunity to create a “need-to-speak” context for spoken interaction.A real-life natural conversation is a one-to-one exchange of ideas to relate experiences, information, needs, and express opinions. Publics are keen to include in conversation genuine details from their own lives, words or phrases outside the standard vocabulary. Language learning with the 1MLEP allows an authentic conversation to take place with an individual, with relevant content and idiom, as a genuine exchange of personal information. 1MLEP is a valuable program to all Malaysians, of accurate pronunciation, grammar, idiom, and contemporary context usage. Culture includes the language, customs, values, relationships and behaviours of a society. Malaysian today, as part of their linguistic competence, need a deeper understanding of life in the target country. They need to be able to explain the invisible cultural values and etiquette which lie hidden in its language. 1MLEP is a first program of the cultural life of the target language, which is able to bring that knowledge to the publics through personal narrative and anecdote in a vivid and personally engaging way. The sharing of their perceptions of life in their own country provides numerous opportunities for intercultural enquiry learning in Malaysia.
