As the new year kicks off, the implementation of 2016 digital strategies begins! For marketers, it’s easy to make a business case for traditional forms of digital marketing, such as SEO, SEM, email, etc. Social media marketing, however, tends to be a much harder sell for marketing managers and it’s easy to understand why: Organic reach for social posts has fallen drastically across all channels in recent years. Social is often a low contributor to website traffic when compared to other sources. Mistakes by brands on social media are often used as media headlines, causing PR nightmares. Never-ending changes to algorithms, layouts and UX require flexibility, which not all brands can accommodate. While all of these are valid arguments to go ‘light’ on social, here are some stats and figures that illustrate why social media marketing is important. In fact, now is the time that it’s most crucial for marketers to understand where social is going and how excluding it from your digital strategy could spell disaster.
