2. Introduction
The night has passed, and the day lies open before
us; let us pray with one heart and mind.
As we rejoice in the gift of this new day,
so may the light of your presence, O God,
set our hearts on fire with love for you;
now and forever!
If you are praying with another person – read responsively
where appropriate.
3. The Psalm – Psalm 130
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD.
2 Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplications!
3 If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities,
Lord, who could stand?
4 But there is forgiveness with you,
so that you may be revered.
5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
and in his word I hope;
6 my soul waits for the Lord
more than those who watch for the morning,
more than those who watch for the morning.
7 O Israel, hope in the LORD!
For with the LORD there is steadfast love,
and with him is great power to redeem.
8 It is he who will redeem Israel
from all its iniquities.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
4. Short Reading and Meditation
16When evening came, his
disciples went down to the sea, 1
7got into a boat, and started across
the sea to Capernaum. It was now
dark, and Jesus had not yet come
to them. 1 8The sea became rough
because a strong wind was
blowing. 1 9When they had rowed
about three or four miles, they saw
Jesus walking on the sea and
coming near the boat, and they
were terrified. 20But he said to
them, "It is I; do not be afraid."
21Then they wanted to take him
into the boat, and immediately the
boat reached the land toward
which they were going.
Thought for Today
When the disciples were
willing to let Jesus get in
the boat, they immediately
reached their destination.
Scripture doesn’t say the
wind ceased or the waters
grew calm. It says they got
to where they wanted to
go. Have you let Jesus in
your “boat”?
John 6:16-21
5. Prayer
Pray Silently or Aloud for Others and Yourself
Look upon us, O Lord,
and let all the darkness of our souls
vanish before the beams of thy brightness.
Fill us with holy love,
and open to us the treasures of thy wisdom.
All our desire is known unto thee,
therefore perfect what thou hast begun,
and what thy Spirit has awakened us to ask in prayer.
We seek thy face,
turn thy face unto us and show us thy glory.
Then shall our longing be satisfied,
and our peace shall be perfect.
(Augustine, 354 - 430)
