2. Introduction
O God, come to our aid.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy
Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen. Alleluia
If you are praying with another person – read responsively
where appropriate
3. The Psalm – Psalm 90
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
8
You put our sins right in front of you,
set our hidden faults in the light from your face.
9
Yes, all our days slip away because of your fury;
we finish up our years with a whimper.
10
We live at best to be seventy years old,
maybe eighty, if we’re strong.
But their duration brings hard work and trouble
because they go by so quickly.
And then we fly off.
11
Who can comprehend the power of your anger?
The honor that is due you corresponds to your wrath.
12
Teach us to number our days
so we can have a wise heart.
13
Come back to us, LORD!
Please, quick!
Have some compassion for your servants!
14
Fill us full every morning with your faithful love
so we can rejoice and celebrate our whole life long.
15
Make us happy for the same amount of time that you afflicted us—
for the same number of years that we saw only trouble.
16
Let your acts be seen by your servants;
let your glory be seen by their children.
17
Let the kindness of the Lord our God be over us.
Make the work of our hands last.
Make the work of our hands last!
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
4. Short Reading and Meditation
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of
Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2Jesus
and his disciples had also been invited to the
wedding. 3When the wine gave out, the mother of
Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." 4And Jesus
said to her, "Woman, what concern is that to you
and to me? My hour has not yet come." 5His mother
said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."
6Now standing there were six stone water jars for
the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty
or thirty gallons. 7Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars
with water." And they filled them up to the brim.
8He said to them, "Now draw some out, and take it
to the chief steward." So they took it. 9When the
steward tasted the water that had become wine,
and did not know where it came from (though the
servants who had drawn the water knew), the
steward called the bridegroom 10and said to him,
"Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the
inferior wine after the guests have become drunk.
But you have kept the good wine until now."
11Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of
Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples
believed in him.
Thought for Today
John describes the first miracle
of Jesus. The first sign of his
Messiahship. Jesus turns water
into wine - fine wine - the best
wine. Psalm 90 prays that God
would "satisfy us in the morning
with his unfailing love that we
may sing for joy and be glad." In
Jesus, God answers this prayer
fully and daily. In Christ we have
life to the fullest. Lets live it all!
John 2:1-11
5. Prayer
Pray Silently or Aloud for Others and Yourself
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayers.
May God the Father, and the Eternal High Priest Jesus Christ,
build us up in faith and truth and love, and grant to us our
portion among the saints with all those who believe on our
Lord Jesus Christ. We pray for all saints, for kings and rulers,
for the enemies of the Cross of Christ, and for ourselves we
pray that our fruit may abound and we may be made perfect in
Christ Jesus our Lord. AMEN.
