Morning
Prayers
Introduction
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the
Holy Spirit, one God. Amen.
Kyrie eleison. Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy,
Lord bless us.
Amen. Alleluia.
If you are praying with another person – read responsively
where appropriate
The Psalm – Psalm 103Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
103 Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!
2
Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
3
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
4
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
5
who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
6
The LORD works righteousness
and justice for all who are oppressed.
7
He made known his ways to Moses,
his acts to the people of Israel.
8
The LORD is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9
He will not always chide,
nor will he keep his anger forever.
10
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
11
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
12
as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
13
As a father shows compassion to his children,
so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him.
14
For he knows our frame;
he remembers that we are dust.
15
As for man, his days are like grass;
he flourishes like a flower of the field;
16
for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
and its place knows it no more.
17
But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,
and his righteousness to children's children,
18
to those who keep his covenant
and remember to do his commandments.
19
The LORD has established his throne in the heavens,
and his kingdom rules over all.
20
Bless the LORD, O you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his word,
obeying the voice of his word!
21
Bless the LORD, all his hosts,
his ministers, who do his will!
22
Bless the LORD, all his works,
in all places of his dominion.
Bless the LORD, O my soul!
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
Short Reading and Meditation
A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and
Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink." 8(His
disciples had gone to the city to buy food.) 9The
Samaritan woman said to him, "How is it that
you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of
Samaria?" (Jews do not share things in common
with Samaritans.) 10Jesus answered her, "If you
knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying
to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked
him, and he would have given you living water."
11The woman said to him, "Sir, you have no
bucket, and the well is deep. Where do you get
that living water? 12Are you greater than our
ancestor Jacob, who gave us the well, and with
his sons and his flocks drank from it?" 13Jesus
said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water
will be thirsty again, 14but those who drink of
the water that I will give them will never be
thirsty. The water that I will give will become in
them a spring of water gushing up to eternal
life." 15The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this
water, so that I may never be thirsty or have to
keep coming here to draw water."
Thought for Today
We, like the woman at the well in
Samaria, are parched and dry.
"Our days on earth are like grass;
like wildflowers, we bloom and
die." But Someone has come into
our lives - our dry and waning
existences - and offers us Living
Water which never runs dry. As
we experience Him and the
abundant supply of parch-
quenching "water" He pours into
our lives, we, too, sing with the
woman, the Psalmist and all of
creation: "Bless the Lord, oh my
soul, and ALL that is within me,
bless His holy name!"
John 4:7-15
Prayer
Pray Silently or Aloud for Others and Yourself
O God, Who is the unsearchable abyss of peace, the ineffable
sea of love, the fountain of blessings, and the bestower of
affection, Who sends peace to those that receive it; open to us
this day the sea of Your love, and water us with the plenteous
streams from the riches of Your grace. Make us children of
quietness, and heirs of peace. Kindle in us the fire of Your love;
sow in us Your fear; strengthen our weakness by Your power;
bind us closely to You and to each other in one firm bond of
unity; for the sake of Jesus Christ. AMEN.
